Thanks to PijonBox, I discovered a new place to buy and sell clothing online! The new site is thredUP, and I was already using Twice. I’ve had great success both selling and buying with Twice, and am eager to try thredUP as well. I love that thredUP buys and sells clothing for men, women, and children, as well as shoes and accessories. They also accept more everyday brands like Old Navy, which Twice doesn’t. Twice is only for women’s clothing, and they put more of an emphasis on high-end designer brands. I just sent a bag to Twice (my offer was $70!), but have lots of shoes and bags that I’m excited to get rid of. We’ll see how much thredUP offers me!
For a shopaholic like me, online consignment stores are a godsend. If you want to sell your stuff, you get a prepaid bag sent to you for free. Just fill it with the clothes that you’re tired of/outgrown, and then you get an offer from the store via email. Usually the offers are pretty generous, and anything they don’t want to buy from you they will donate. Or, if you’re not satisfied with the offer, you can choose to have the clothes sent back to you for a small shipping fee.
It also makes sense for buying clothes. You’re getting the same designer brands for a fraction of the retail price. Not to mention, it’s much easier than going to a thrift shop and rummaging through racks of clothes. Everything on these sites is carefully inspected for any damage, thoroughly cleaned before being mailed to you, and both sites have generous return policies. I think it especially makes sense for parents with young children (before they’re old enough to care!) to buy gently used clothes. Kids outgrow their outfits so quickly! I definitely wore a lot of hand-me-downs as a kid. Oh, and these sites have brand new clothes with the tags still on them too. I bought a Marc Jacobs dress with the tag still on it from thredUP for only $45. Not bad, considering the original was $295. I have a feeling I’ll be buying lots of dresses from these sites as more and more wedding invitations start rolling in. Gotta love being 20-something.
As always, all views in this post are the opinion of the author. I am not affiliated with Twice or thredUP, though this post does contain referral links. You don’t have to use them, but I sure would appreciate it if you did 🙂
