Ipsy Glam Bag November 2013 Review

Finally got my Ipsy Glam Bag in the mail! I think this is my last month from my 1 year Ipsy Glam Bag subscription, so now I have to decide if I want to renew or not. Ipsy is $10/month, and features makeup and beauty products in a fun makeup bag. In my experience, they’re more prone to doing full sized products in comparison to Birchbox, but they also have some lower-end brands like NYX that Birchbox tends to stay away from.

I thought this month’s bag was kind of cute. It feels pretty cheap and flimsy but it will be good to use for travel. Plus the gold foil is so festive!

TRESemme Tres Two Hold Hairspray 1.5 oz | $0.50
Speaking of travel, I love mini hairsprays! Not only are they great to travel with, they’re easier to hold while styling. I actually use minis all the time, even at home. Who wants to wrestle with a giant can of hairspray??

Ipsy Glam Bag November 2013 Reviewem by Michelle Phan Pillow Plush Lip Balm in Creamsicle | $15.00
I have been dying to try an em product, so I was excited to see this! I wonder if Ipsy will start featuring more em items? While this orange color isn’t up my alley, the lip balm is quite nice and the color isn’t very noticeable. But I do think it’s pricey for what it is. I already have my go-to lip balms so it’s unlikely that I will repurchase.

Ipsy Glam Bag November 2013 Review

Nailtini Nail Lacquer in Champagne | $13.00
I can’t find this color online, but it’s a a very pretty neutral shimmer. I will definitely get lots of use out of this!

Pixi Beauty Bronzer in Subtly Suntouched 0.11 oz | $5.00
I like how subtle this bronzer is, and it’s very buildable. But if you’re interested in something very pigmented for contouring, I wouldn’t recommend it (try BareMinerals for contouring!). This adds a super light wash of color, which is usually what I stick to for bronzers.

Ipsy Glam Bag November 2013 ReviewStarlooks Gem Eye Pencil in Topaz | $14.00
I love this blue-silver color! It’s super soft and creamy so I’ll probably use it more than just eyeliner. But it’s so pigmented that I can’t imagine using it very often. Definitely a fun product for holidays/going out, not so much for a daily routine.

Be A Bombshell Lip Crayon in Hot Damn | $14.00
Wow, this is definitely a bright red. Too bad I can’t pull off this shade even on my best day! Nonetheless, it was fun to play around with and the quality is solid. I still prefer the consistency of Tarte’s lip crayons, but these are still pretty good, especially for the price!

Ipsy Glam Bag November 2013 ReviewSo my bag has a value of $61.50, which is ridiculously high! I mean, 4 full sized products and 2 deluxe samples! It was also nice to see a great range of products. I got a hair product, 2 lip products, 1 eye product, 1 cheek/face product, and 1 nail product. Given how much I like this bag, I should really be resubscribing…but I’m not.

At least not for a little while. I’ll probably subscribe again in the Spring, but I just have so much makeup that I haven’t used and I’m a little tired of the brands that Ipsy is giving me. For me, the biggest difference between Birchbox and Ipsy is that Birchbox really has a huge selection of brands. It was definitely more of a “discovery” box for me, since I rarely got the same brands twice. Ipsy gives out more full sized items but repeats a lot of the same brands. This past year I have gotten several Nailtini products, as well as Pixi, Starlooks, and Be A Bombshell. Ipsy is a great service (and a total bargain) if you love these brands. But after trying the same things over and over again, I’m ready for something new!
