Pijon Box February 2014 Review

I received my February PijonBox last week, and had completely forgotten about it until today. Oops! There was no shipment from Pijon in January since most college students were on winter break at the time, so this is first box for 2014.

PijonBox is a subscription service catered to the needs of college students; they deliver a variety of products including snacks, beauty products, and other useful items. They also partner with Project Night Night, a nonprofit that donates care packages (consisting of a blanket, a children’s book, and a stuffed animal) to homeless and underprivileged children. The service is $29/month, or less if you sign up for an extended period of time. Check out my review of December’s box here!

The theme for February is Rise and Shine, focusing on things for ‘on the go’ in the mornings.

Pijon Box College Subscription Review FebruaryColor Club Nail Polish in Nature’s Way | $8.00
Color Club Nail Polish in Love Links | $8.00
Pijon has sent Color Club nail polish before, so I wasn’t too excited about this. I think they should at least try out a different brand. And while I like both colors, I don’t think it’s necessary to send two bottles of nail polish in a box. It takes up a lot of value and doesn’t add any variety to the box, especially since this isn’t a beauty themed box. In my opinion, there are other more college-y things they could have sent instead of the 2nd color, maybe even just nail polish remover.

Pijon Box College Subscription Review February

Oatworks Strawberry Banana Smoothie | $2.33
Haven’t tried this yet, but it looks interesting. The drink doesn’t look all that appetizing, but sounds very promising. There’s supposed to be as much soluble fiber in one bottle as 2 bowls of oatmeal!

Popbar Hot Chocolate On a Stick Dark Chocolate | $2.99
Am I the only one who just eats these? I remember I got a 6-pack of a similar product from Target last year and ended up eating 4 of them straight off the stick. I’ll actually try to refrain from doing that this time and try the hot chocolate route. No promises though, I can’t be trusted around chocolate.

Pijon Box College Subscription Review FebruaryBrush With Bamboo Toothbrush | $6.00
I think this is a pretty smart item to feature in a college box, since I know students sometimes forget to replace their toothbrushes. Also convenient to have on hand for trips or surprise guests.

The Go Towel 3 Pack | $4.98
I always see these compressed towels at the airport and I’ve been curious about them but never actually purchased one. So I’m happy to have a 3 pack to try. It sounds like a smart concept and I will definitely pack these for my next trip. Also a smart item to give college students, I would have liked these when I was in school!

Rooted Beauty Passionfruit Lip Butter | $4.99
When I first saw this, I was a tiny bit annoyed. We already got a Rooted Beauty item before, and even though I loved it I was disappointed to see yet another familiar brand. And more lip balm! We were already sent 2 lip balms from Pijon back in October. But now that I’ve tried the product, I actually love it. Super smooth and the flavor is great, with awesome packaging.

Reviver Dry Deodorant For Clothes | $3.00
You can buy these on Birchbox! I was happy to see that, since I like the product a lot and will be using my Birchbox points to get some more. Another really smart idea for college students, who are not always known for their fresh laundry…

Pijon Box College Subscription Review FebruaryOverall, I think it was an okay month. I’m still unimpressed with the two Color Club bottles of nail polish, since I really didn’t want more Color Club (I have so many from other boxes, and I don’t really like their formula) and especially didn’t need two. Also a little bit frustrated about yet another lip balm, even though I like it. It just seems repetitive and there are so many other things that could have been included in this box! The total value of the box is $42.29, which is quite good…but to me it felt closer to $30. I guess because everything is very small it feels less substantial?

I’m paid through April, so I will have to decide whether or not I want to cancel in a couple months. I do think the curation is great. Almost all of these items would have been useful for when I was in college, and I think the Pijon staff is thoughtful about picking what goes in the box. However, I definitely want to see more variety! If I get another lip product or nail polish in the next two months, I will be beyond unimpressed. Keeping my fingers crossed for an amazing box next month!
