Julep Maven May 2014 Review Plus Promo Code(s)

Whew, I finally got back from my mini-vacation to Zion National Park. Seriously one of the most gorgeous places I’ve ever been to! My legs are so sore from the hiking and I’m totally dreading Monday…but it’s time to get back to the real world! And at least I have all the boxes that arrived while I was gone to cheer me up 🙂

Since I was part of the crowd-funding group for the Plie Wand, I got my box well over a week ago. I was pretty blown away by the fast shipping! I think I received my box on May 1st or 2nd, but didn’t have time to try the Plie Wand before I left for my trip. It arrived with my May selection, and also with a bonus nail polish.

Julep Maven May 2014 Review Plie WandI loved the extra polish color we got, named after Jane’s (the CEO) daughter, Yumi. It was also sweet of them to add a promo code for a free full sized Bare Face Cleansing Oil ($28.00 value). For Mavens who are interested, the code is OILPERK and it’s free with your next $25+ purchase until May 31st, 2014.

Julep Maven May 2014 Review Plie WandA detailed pamphlet that explains how to use the Plie Wand. It had a lot of helpful tips about how to clean it and how it bends to rest against your hand for steady application.

The actual Plie Wand itself! It’s currently on backorder for anyone interested, but they expect to ship in early June if you order now. I didn’t have crazy high expectations for this wand, but I’m very pleasantly surprised. It actually made a big difference!

Julep Maven May 2014 Review Plie WandIt came with an overcap and a spare brush, and the overcap is designed to fit over any existing Julep nail polish brush. I’m so glad they took this into consideration, because in their first proposal of the wand, people would have to purchase new special caps for all their nail polish colors. A lot of people (myself included) were frustrated by this, because we would have to purchase literally dozens of caps just to use the new wand! They ended up designing this overcap and I couldn’t be happier with the result.

Julep Maven May 2014 Review Plie WandIf you pull off the square cap (the ones with the swatch me stickers on the top), you can fit the new magnetic overcap on top of the round brush and attach it to the Plie Wand. The overcap is magnetic and snaps right onto the wand, so it’s pretty straightforward.

Julep Maven May 2014 Review Plie WandAnother look at the overcap.

Julep Maven May 2014 Review Plie WandThe end result looks like this! You can see how the brush really extends the surface grip you have by a lot. I never really had trouble painting my nails using my non-dominant hand, but this just made it even easier. The wand bends to fit the crook of your hand better, especially for painting with your non-dominant hand. It was also great for pedicures, and I really felt like I had way more control over the brush. I was honestly surprised by the difference it made! My only complaint is that since the wand is weighted, there’s no way you could keep the bottle upright with the wand-brush inside. So between strokes, you would need to rest it on the table or something, which can dry out the brush if you paint slowly. (Did all of that rambling make sense?)

Julep Maven May 2014 Review Plie WandYumi (pink, silver, and holographic glitter) | $14.00
This is the free nail polish I received in my box, as a bonus for funding the Plie Wand. I’m not sure if everyone got this in their May box, but I really appreciated it! It’s a great color that is totally up my alley, and has pretty good glitter content. I only needed 2 coats for complete coverage. I also love that it’s named after Jane’s daughter–so cute!

Julep Maven May 2014 Review Plie WandPaulette (golden lilac tulle shimmer) | $14.00
Jeanne (jet-set blue crème) | $14.00

So I went with the Boho Glam option for May, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice. I love Paulette so much, it’s got the perfect tint of gold. I didn’t know it when I ordered it, but Paulette is some sort of new formula that Julep is trying out, called “Color Treat Oxygen Technology”, which includes strengthening Hexanal and antioxidant green coffee extract that will help keep nails healthy. And it’s supposed to dry faster than normal formula, last longer, and allows 30% more oxygen to permeate the nail bed. Sounds pretty good to me! I’ll keep wearing it for a few weeks and see if my nails have any change. I also really like Jeanne, but I honestly got the Boho Glam box for Paulette 🙂

Julep Maven May 2014 Review Plie WandOverall, this May box has a value of $67.00, and I paid $19.99 for it. It’s probably my favorite box to date, since Paulette is now my new favorite color, and the Plie Wand is totally awesome. Plus, I even got a free nail polish that I wasn’t expecting! Way to go, Julep! Now I’m eagerly anticipating the reveal for June.

For anyone interested in signing up for Julep Maven (I highly recommend it!) you can use code FREEBOX to get your first month free. You get free shipping and a discount on their full priced nail polish plus other items! And now when you sign up, the boxes are fully customizable, which means you can pick what colors you receive (instead of the old system, where you have to choose a style profile).

For existing Mavens, you can use the code OILPERK to get a free full sized Bare Face Cleansing Oil ($28.00 value) with your $25+ purchase until May 31st, 2014. Just add the face oil to your cart before applying the code, and it should turn the value into $0.00. Happy shopping, ladies!
