Bespoke Post Box: Seared and Promo Code

I hadn’t planned on getting another Bespoke Post box so soon, but they have a great Seared box with a salt block that I just needed for our grill this summer.

I love that Bespoke Post is supposed to be geared towards a male audience, but the products end up being pretty gender neutral (like things for the home). It’s a great box that my boyfriend and I both look forward to! Their skip policy is fantastic, because you can preview the entire box and skip the month if I don’t like any of the options. They also send out email reminders, and you have until the 5th of the month to decide. At $45/month, it’s on the pricey side but all their items are very high quality and they have spectacular customer service. You can return the entire box for a refund if you don’t like it, and they’ll even cover the return shipping. If you’re interested in trying (highly recommend!), you can take 30% off your first box with promo code LONELY!

Bespoke Post Seared Box ReviewHimalayan Salt Plate 8 x 8 x 1.5 | $34.95
I bought this box for the salt plate, because I really wanted one for July 4th grilling and entertaining. You can put the salt block in the fridge and use it to serve fruit or cheese or grill meats directly on the salt. When using it to grill with, the crystal structures in the salt help with heat retention and distribution, so it’s easy to get a perfect sear. And you get a really unique new flavor from the salt. It’s making me even more excited about the upcoming festivities!

Bespoke Post Seared Box ReviewTotally gorgeous! As a cold plate, it makes for an awesome centerpiece. We’ll probably use it cold in the beginning, and then use it to grill. It’s recommended you go from cold to hot, not the other way around.

Bespoke Post Seared Box ReviewAnother detail shot because I’m obsessed with this thing 🙂

Bespoke Post Seared Box ReviewProfi Plus Butterfly Turner | $26.00
We didn’t already have a butterfly turner for the grill, so this was just perfect. Profi Plus tools are always great quality and very sturdy. Can’t wait to start using this! I’m also happy to see that it’s dishwasher safe. Not all my tools are, and I find myself very rarely using the ones that aren’t. Seriously, who wants to do dishes after a BBQ?

Bespoke Post Seared Box ReviewEssential Cane Flavored Sugar Samples | $1.70 each
I tried these just out of the jar without using them on anything, and the flavors are strong! The habanero one really has a kick to it and I foresee it going into some amazing Tex-Mex dishes. And the sweet onion one will be great in a burger. Really excited about discovering these products! I’m tempted to buy some of their fruity flavored sugars for fun cocktails!

Bespoke Post Seared Box ReviewI paid $45.00 for $64.35 worth of products. It’s not the highest value for Bespoke, but I love all the items I got and I think it was a great deal. The theme is just perfect for the summer and I’m glad I snagged one of these boxes before it sold out. Can’t wait to see what they release for July!

The Honest Company Review plus Promo Code

You know you’re getting old when your favorite cleaning supplies make you happy. My Essentials Bundle from The Honest Company got here a few weeks ago and I was a little more excited than I should have been…

The Honest Company delivers family necessities directly to your door, and you can choose between three different plans: Diapers & Wipes Bundle (exactly as it sounds, it’s diapers and baby wipes), Essentials Bundle (cleaning supplies and body products), and a Health & Wellness Bundle (vitamins). All their products are eco-friendly without harsh chemicals, and almost their entire collection are vegan! I subscribe to the Essentials Bundle, which costs $35.95 per box. It comes out to $7.19 per item! It’s completely customizable (you log in and select the products you want in your bundle), and you can choose when you want the box delivered. With each box, you can also order 3 additional items with a 25% discount. Overall, I find it to be a really good deal. If you’re interested in getting started, use promo code INVITED10 for $10 off your first bundle.

The Honest Company Review plus Promo CodeCan’t beat their packaging! The design nerd in me is always so pleased with their packaging and overall brand.

The Honest Company Review plus Promo CodeIn these reviews I usually just sort of describe whether or not I like the product, but that’s not always as helpful as I would like it to be. I thought this time I would compare it to a product I was using before I made the switch to Honest. Hopefully it will be a bit more informative and give a clearer idea of how Honest Co. products perform compared to the major brands!

The Honest Company Review plus Promo CodeHonest Laundry Detergent | $12.95
Before I got hooked on Honest, I was using Tide Free and Gentle, which is approximately $12.65 for the same amount. But keep in mind that $12.95 is the individual price for the Honest detergent, and I actually paid only $7.19 because I used it in a bundle. As for the cleaning power, I found them to be equal. Both are fragrance-free and dye-free, which I LOVE. The Honest Co. one has the added bonus of being better for the environment, so I think I’ll be sticking with it!

Honest 4-in-1 Laundry Pods | $15.95
I got hooked on laundry pods while in college because they’re so convenient. And now that I don’t have to carry my laundry anywhere, there’s really no point for me to have pods…except they’re perfect for my boyfriend! He likes them because it’s easier than having to measure liquid detergent, and I like them because he doesn’t have a chance to make a mess (how does he even manage to drip detergent all over the washer and floor??). While in college I was always searching for the perfect fragrance-free pod, and I mostly used Seventh Generation Natural Packs ($14.99 for the same amount). I’m satisfied with both brands and they’re both good options for the environment. With the bundle, I get the Honest ones for only $7.19; that’s less than half what I was paying before! Wish I had gotten Honest while in college. Parents: consider gifting your college student an Essentials bundle! I’m telling you, it’ll be such a useful gift.

Honest Oxy Boost | $7.95
My first time getting this product from Honest, and I’m very pleased with it. I actually use it mostly for non-laundry purposes, like cleaning the tiles in the shower and spot-cleaning stains on the carpet. I have never tried a similar product, so unfortunately can’t really compare it to anything. But for anyone interested in trying this oxy boost in the bathroom, it works wonders on grout! Just tear open the pack and sprinkle the powder onto the grout/whatever you’re trying to clean. I usually spray water on it to keep it damp, and let it sit for 30 minutes. It gets grout really bright white, and I’ve even used it on a pair of muddy old wedges!

The Honest Company Review plus Promo CodeHonest Dishwasher Pods | $10.95
Originally I was using Cascade ActionPacs, which are $5.99 for the same amount. These Honest pods have done well even with the greasiest dishes, and it’s much better for the environment and also for me and my boyfriend! Since there are no harsh chemicals, I don’t have to worry about residue. I’m more than happy to pay a little extra for peace of mind and also to support socially responsible products!

The Honest Company Review plus Promo CodeHonest Dish Soap in White Grapefruit | $5.95
This is my third time purchasing this product, since I love it so much. Compared to what I was using before, Dawn Dishwashing Liquid, it’s a lot more expensive. Dawn is only $1.76 for 16 oz, while Honest is $5.95. That’s a huge difference! But I still prefer the Honest one, because it doesn’t leave any residue and doesn’t leave any kind of scent. When I use Dawn, it takes a really long time for it to rinse out and I always felt like my dishes were slightly perfumed afterwards. My hands were also getting really dried out with the Dawn soap, because I don’t wear gloves when I do the dishes (I’ve tried! I just can’t do it! I feel so clumsy.) The Honest dish soap is very lightly fragranced, is easy on my hands, and washes out quickly and thoroughly. I also use it to make soapy water for washing the floor!

The Honest Company Review plus Promo CodeHonest Mouthwash | $9.95
This was my first time trying their mouthwash, which was released back in February. I like the taste of the sweet mint flavor a lot, and it doesn’t have alcohol so there’s no burn. It’s a mouthwash designed to freshen breath, not to actually kill germs. We usually use Tom’s of Maine Mouthwash in our household, and at $3.99 it’s a much more affordable option that is also natural and fluoride-free. Unfortunately in this case I’m sticking with my old brand. Sorry, Honest!

The Honest Company Review plus Promo CodeHonest Wipes | $4.95
Love these wipes! I always buy this as an “add-on” item for 25% off with my bundle, which brings the price down to $3.72. I always keep a pack in my car, and they’re so versatile I can’t imagine being with it. I use them to wipe muddy dog paws, to clean up spills, when I’ve accidentally touched something sticky in the grocery store (does this happen to other people too?), and so much more. Before I switched to Honest I was using Wet Ones, which are $4.12. Honest is the clear winner in this situation, since their wipes are thicker, biodegradable, unscented, free of harsh chemicals, and are a tiny bit cheaper when used as an “add-on”. Can’t recommend it enough!

The Honest Company Review plus Promo CodeSo there you have it: my honest review of my most recent Essentials Bundle. For $35.95 I got $63.70 worth of products, and I also got 25% off my package of wipes. I loved everything, even the mouthwash, although that’s the only product that I would not buy again. They’re doing a promotion through June 30th for a free water bottle with $35 purchase or bundle, just use promo code #HonestDad! Or if you’re a new member you can get $10 off your first bundle with INVITED10. What should I try in my next bundle? I’ve already added their new sunscreen spray and the new sunscreen stick that was just announced today! I’m dying for them to release a makeup remover!

Whoa, a Liebster Award?

Liebster Award
Thanks to the wonderful Rachel of Real Talk With Rachel, I’ve been nominated me for a Liebster Award! And her awesomely thorough post was great for explaining the Liebster to me, since I had never heard of it before. It’s essentially a chain letter award, and it focuses on new/underappreciated bloggers.

– Official Rules –

If you have been nominated for The Liebster Award AND YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT IT, write a blog post about the Liebster award in which you:

1. Thank the person who nominated you, and post a link to their blog on your blog.
2. Display the award on your blog — by including it in your post and/or displaying it using a “widget” or a “gadget”. (Note that the best way to do this is to save the image to your own computer and then upload it to your blog post.)
3. Answer 11 questions about yourself, which will be provided to you by the person who nominated you.
4. Provide 11 random facts about yourself.
5. Nominate 5 blogs that you feel deserve the award, who have a less than 1,000 followers. (there seems to be a lot of debate about the actual number of followers needed, but I just went ahead and chose 1,000 for my limit)
6. Create a new list of questions for the blogger to answer.
7. List these rules in your post (You can copy and paste from here.) Once you have written and published it, you then have to:
8. Inform the people/blogs that you nominated that they have been nominated for the Liebster award and provide a link for them to your post so that they can learn about it (they might not have ever heard of it!)
9. You cannot nominate the person who nominated you

11 Randoms about myself:

1. I only have to shave my legs once a week. Be jealous 🙂
2. Despite having a pretty extensive nail polish collection (well over a hundred bottles now!), I don’t paint my nails very often. Once a week is about as often as it gets.
3. I’m allergic to lima beans and certain kinds of pears.
4. Without my contacts in, I’m almost legally blind.
5. I can’t braid hair!! I’m pretty hopeless when it comes to hair in general, but something about not being able to braid makes me a little sad. I have been practicing, but it feels like I’ve been practicing for years and not getting anywhere.
6. Currently have an obsession with Japanese candies.
7. I have never had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich before. Like ever.
8. I love letterpress printing, and hope to someday have my own press shop and maybe even a line of stationery.
9. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese!
10. I collect pretty packaging and interesting brand tags. I have empty cartons and boxes from things I bought over 10 years ago!
11. My 2010 car doesn’t have automatic doors. I asked for the most basic model, but I wasn’t even aware that they still made cars that could only be opened manually with the key. On the bright side, I saved like $2,000 (hey, that’s a lot for a struggling college student!)

11 Questions from Rachel:

1. Why did you first decide to start blogging?
I was getting a lot of subscription boxes and wanted a way to document what I received each month. Before I got the blog I was actually writing them all down in a notebook with a small blurb about my opinions of the products. I think I was also trying to decide which ones I could keep and which ones I should cancel, since I was spending a little more than I should.
2. Who is your favorite person in the world?
It’s going to be a tough call between my parents. Maybe my mom, a tiny smidge more? (Sorry dad!)
3. What is your dream vacation?
Bora Bora! Staying in one of those adorable overwater bungalows, of course.
4. If you could see any band ever, who would it be?
Hm…tough question. Probably The Beatles, both for the music and the cultural significance.
5. What is your number one Holy Grail item that everyone should know about?
Kiehl’s Facial Fuel Anti-Wrinkle Cream for Men. Seriously, I use this stuff every day and it’s amazing!!! And yes, it’s the men’s moisturizer. I have no idea why it works so well for me.
6. What would the title of your memoir be?
I didn’t realize what I was getting into.
7. If you could guest star in any TV show, which one would you want to go on?
Game of Thrones, just so I would have spoilers beforehand!
8. Do you watch any YouTube beauty gurus, if so, any favorites?
I don’t follow any of them in particular, but Youtube is my go-to for tutorials and answers.
9. Surprise, you just won an unlimited shopping spree, where would you go (non-beauty!)?Anthropologie, no question about it.
10. Any teacher you will always remember, why?
My first typography professor, for sparking my interest in graphic design.
11. How do you feel about the ~power brow~?
Major props to those who can pull it off, but alas, I am not one of them.

My 11 Questions:

1. What accomplishment are you most proud of?
2. How/why did you pick the name of your blog?
3. What’s your favorite purchase of the year so far?
4. What’s the best thing you’ve ever bought for yourself, like ever?
5. What country are you dying to visit?
6. What silly makeup or fashion trend did you used to think was really cool, and cringe now whenever you think about it? (for me it was probably blue eyeshadow in middle school…)
7. What do you do to relax after a stressful day?
8. If you could only eat one type of cuisine for the rest of your life, what would it be?
9. What are some things you always carry with you?
10. If your 5 year old self could choose your current career, what would you be right now?
11. When do you start putting up your Christmas decorations? (oddly, in my neighborhood the general answer seems to be late October; it confuses me to no end.)

5 bloggers that I nominate:

2. Babbling Dani
3. Polished Portland
4. Never A Blank Canvas
5. Clicks Beauty Blog

POPSUGAR Must Have June 2014 Review

It’s been crazy hot out here in Houston, so I can’t believe summer hasn’t officially started yet (June 21st, y’all!). I’m beyond ready for a beach getaway, and luckily it seems like the folks over at POPSUGAR agree with me! My June box got here and it’s screaming beach and summer at me.

POPSUGAR Must Have is a subscription service that sends a variety of items for women that are curated by the POPSUGAR editors. Items typically include food, beauty, home, among other miscellaneous things. Each month is $39.99/month, but you can use the code JUNESELECT10 to get $10 off a 3-month subscription or REFER5 to get $5 off your first month. It’s hands down my favorite subscription thus far, and consistently has a great cost to value ratio. Almost every month the value of the box is more than $100.

POPSUGAR Must Have June 2014 ReviewThis is the first month with their new packaging and information cards, and I think it’s wonderful. I’m a bit of a design nerd, so any time a company changes any sort of packaging or branding, I get a little excited 🙂

POPSUGAR Must Have June 2014 ReviewI think it’s great that you can now easily find out what the inspiration for the box was. I definitely agree with all the phrases they used, and seeing it all together helps the box feel more curated.

POPSUGAR Must Have June 2014 ReviewThis is also much smaller than their previous information pamphlet, so I’m happy to see a more green alternative! And it’s helpful to have all the items in a sort of “mood board” format.

POPSUGAR Must Have June 2014 ReviewOne Potato Two Potato Hawaiian BBQ Kettle Chips | $0.98
Delicious! I was kind of sad about the small bag (2 oz.), since we got the huge bag of Skinny Sticks from last month. Oh well, it’s probably better that I didn’t get a big bag of potato chips with swimsuit season around the corner…

POPSUGAR Must Have June 2014 ReviewThe One & Only by Emily Griffin | $28.00
Not exactly my cup of tea, but I’ll read pretty much anything at least once. Seems like it could be a fun light read for the beach. And I’m very happy to see that it’s a hardcover!

POPSUGAR Must Have June 2014 ReviewSachajuan Shiny Citrus Body Lotion | $24.00
Citrus scents are always fantastic for summer, and this one is so light with a hint of jasmine. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave a greasy feeling, and the scent isn’t very strong (which is a plus in my book). The last thing I need is more lotion, but since I like this one so much I really have no complaints!

POPSUGAR Must Have June 2014 ReviewYou Smell Lemon Wet Wipes | $5.00
Paying $5 for 12 wet wipes is pretty pricey, so I probably won’t be buying more when I run out. But with that being said, I do like these wet wipes. The lemon smell is wonderfully fresh, and the no-alcohol-plus-aloe formula doesn’t dry my hands out. The company also makes paper soap, which looks intriguing. My only issue is that DMDMH (formaldehyde) is the first ingredient listed.

POPSUGAR Must Have June 2014 ReviewCan we just take a moment to appreciate the beautiful packaging?? I’ve never seen such beautiful wet wipes. I almost didn’t want to throw away the wrapper when I tested one.

POPSUGAR Must Have June 2014 ReviewTurkish-T Beach Towel | $32.00
The star of the June box! I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this when I saw the spoilers come out, since I’ve been obsessed with turkish towels since getting one in the resort box. It felt very thin and I was a little disappointed when I first pulled it out of the box, but then I used it after a shower and was blown away! It’s so absorbent! And it dried ridiculously quickly because of how thin it is. I’ll definitely be buying more. Oh, and for those who want a softer towel, mine softened up a bit after I ran it through the wash once.

POPSUGAR Must Have June 2014 ReviewI think the color scheme of yellow and turquoise in this POPSUGAR box is really gorgeous. I feel like this is one of their best boxes in terms of curation and theme!

POPSUGAR Must Have June 2014 ReviewLollies Basics Hair Ties | $8.00
I was very excited about these since I keep my hair up almost every day in the Summer, but I was let down by their performance. The elastic just isn’t very stretchy and I found it hard to wrap around more than once. They do look cute on my wrists, but they don’t work all that well as hair ties.

POPSUGAR Must Have June 2014 ReviewNative Union $15 Gift Card
Since this “gift card” can’t be stacked or applied towards shipping, I don’t really consider it a gift card and I don’t count it towards the value of the box. Some of their products do look interesting, and I know the Monocle speaker got good reviews from fellow bloggers, but I don’t think I would use it very often. I wish it were an actual gift card, so I could pass it along to another subscriber to be stacked!

POPSUGAR Must Have June 2014 ReviewThis box has a value of $97.98, which is actually on the lower end for POPSUGAR. Nonetheless, it’s one of my favorite boxes so far and I love the curation they did. It definitely feels like summer and I’ll use almost everything. Can’t wait until my next box!

Julep Maven Memorial Day Mystery Game Box #4 Review

For Memorial Day this year, Julep featured 10 different mystery boxes, varying in price and theme. It was really hard to choose just one option! I wanted to try them all, but I was on a low-buy at the time. I ended up picking the #4 option, which was $25.00 and had a theme of “a healthy hi-five”.

Julep Memorial Day Mystery Box ReviewLove the packaging on this mystery box!

Julep Memorial Day Mystery Box ReviewBarbara (Full-coverage magenta glitter) | $14.00
I pretty much love all glitters, so I’m a fan of this color! I didn’t have a magenta glitter, so this was a very welcome surprise.

Tania (Multi-dimensional mermaid teal glitter) | $14.00
It’s always good to see some of their newer colors in mystery boxes, and I think Tania was part of the March 2014 collection. I also didn’t have a teal glitter in my huge polish collection (how was that possible??) so I really lucked out with these two colors.

Julep Memorial Day Mystery Box ReviewAva (Ballet slipper pink frost) | $14.00
Super gorgeous sheer color. Can’t wait to layer it over some of my brighter shades to tone it down. It would also be a great base for chunky glitters!

Lois (Dusty rose frost) | $14.00
It seems like Lois is a popular color for mystery boxes, since this is the third time I’ve gotten one. On the bright side, it’s beautiful and exactly my style: shimmery and pink! But I still have so much left from my current bottle. Maybe it’ll be worth it to keep as a backup, or I may just gift it.

Fiore (Espresso brown creme) | $14.00
I’ve gotten Fiore before, so now I have a duplicate. But considering my large Julep collection (easily 60+ and growing!), two duplicates in a mystery box isn’t too shabby.

Julep Memorial Day Mystery Box ReviewVanish Cuticle Softener and Remover | $18.00
My cuticles needed this! I have this awful habit of picking at my cuticles when I’m really stressed out, and as a result I often have raggedy sad-looking cuticles. Luckily this stuff is able to soften the edges and make them look healthy again! I pretty much picked this mystery box just for this product alone.

Julep Memorial Day Mystery Box ReviewCuticle Pusher | $14.00
I like that it’s double ended, which makes it easy to switch from hand to hand. It’s a simple cuticle pusher that is very well made. What more needs to be said?

Julep Memorial Day Mystery Box ReviewAnd because I used the promo code OILPERK, I got a free Bare Face Cleansing Oil, a $28.00 value. I love it when Julep runs gift with purchase codes, since they’re always a really great deal and the products they feature tend to be popular ones! I know a lot of people love this cleaning oil, so I’m excited to get on board.

Julep Memorial Day Mystery Box Review

I paid $25.00 for a box worth $102.00, and that’s not including the gift with purchase code. With the free cleaning oil included, my order is valued at $130.00! I’m so happy with this box! I will be using almost all the products, and the Fiore dupe can easily be traded or given to a friend. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for Julep for July, and what mystery boxes they’ll roll out next. I just can’t resist mystery boxes of any kind!

For anyone interested in signing up for Julep Maven (I highly recommend it!) you can use code FREEBOX to get your first month free. You get free shipping and a discount on their full priced nail polish plus other items! And now when you sign up, the boxes are fully customizable, which means you can pick what colors you receive (instead of the old system, where you have to choose a style profile).
