Birchbox July 2014 Review plus Promo Codes

I had a little throwback Thursday moment this morning when I saw a familiar box peeking out at my from my mailbox. My Birchbox!!

Birchbox was the first subscription box I ever signed up for. I joined in early 2011 and quit in 2013, mostly because I was completely overwhelmed with samples. For the record, I don’t recommend being simultaneously signed up for 5 beauty boxes unless you are some kind of superwoman. I was signed up for Birchbox, Ipsy, Glossybox, Julep, and Sample Society all at the same time, and I was drowning in makeup. I spent a few months being very poor while I hoarded all my samples, unwilling to give up any of my subs. I finally ended up cutting Sample Society, then Birchbox, and finally Ipsy. It wasn’t until I found an amazing deal on Gilt City last week for a whole year of Birchbox for only $74.25 that I resubscribed.

Birchbox will always have a special place in my heart as “the original”. I think what really sets them apart is their amazing point system. For every sample you receive in your box, you can fill out a review to get 10 points (equivalent to $1) to spend in the Birchbox shop. And since every box has at least 5 samples, you’re pretty much guaranteed to get $5 worth of credit each month if you fill out all your reviews. For a box that only costs $10/month, getting $5 credit each month is an incredible deal. I think the codes WOMENSHEALTH100 and BBJETBLUE still work: you can use either one to get $10 credit in the Birchbox store with any new subscription.

I actually wasn’t expecting a July box since I signed up so late in the month, but I’m glad to receive it. Such a cute box!

July’s box was done in partnership with Women’s Health magazine. I love how often Birchbox does collaborations. For August they created a box option with The Everygirl that sold out pretty quickly.

Number 4 Super Comb Prep and Protect | $4.85
With the beach season in full swing, I can always use more leave-in conditioner. I love that it also adds UV protection for hair. Too bad the smell is stronger than I would like, and it’s sort of a musky/woodsy sort of fragrance which isn’t my favorite.

Harvey Prince Hello Body Cream | $0.92
For anyone who likes the Harvey Prince Hello perfume, this is a must have! It’s super saturated with the fragrance and it really lasts all day. I put it on this morning and it’s still going strong at 4PM, and will probably last into the night. The cream is moisturizing but nothing special, it’s really all about the perfume!

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Liner | $12.03
I got the Silver color, and totally love it! This is a Birchbox exclusive product, so I might get another fun color with my points. Maybe sky blue? I haven’t been able to test the full lasting power yet, but I put a little bit on this morning around 10AM and it hasn’t smudged, despite the Houston humidity. Hopefully it will stay put after work!

SmartyPants Gummy Vitamins for Adults | $0.33
I’ve gotten these from PijonBox before in the past, and I’m not a big fan. I also dislike that they cut down on their sample size. You’re supposed to eat 6 of these vitamins every day, but this sample only contains two. They used to have samples that included 6 vitamins so you could at least get a full day’s worth. But I just think eating 6 every day is totally excessive. We currently use the Gummy Chews from Costco, and you only need to eat two a day. It also gets pretty expensive if you eat 6 a day, since a full bottle would only last you a month.

Supergoop! Daily Correct CC Cream | $2.05
I got the Light to Medium shade, so it’s good to see that Birchbox is diligent about following beauty profiles. One of my biggest pet peeves is getting a great product that I can’t use because the shade is wrong. I really like this CC cream; the self-adjusting formula actually works! I got a very seamless color match and it has decent coverage. Loving the SPF 35 aspect as well.

This box also came with a card for a free year of Women’s Health magazine, valued at $9.99. I hope it will give me inspiration to stay on my fitness routine! I’ve been slacking a bit this month. For those who don’t want to magazine, you can also redeem a $9.99 refund, which is I think is very generous.

There was also a cute little booklet with 12 challenges. My personal favorite is “Sit Smarter” with tips on how to have better posture when you’re sitting. Since I spend most of my day in front of a computer pushing pixels around, this couldn’t be more relevant.

Overall, my box value was $30.17 including the magazine redemption. Not too shabby since my monthly box cost is only $6.18. Not to mention I got another $5 credit for the Birchbox store since I did all my reviews! This is reminding me of why I adore Birchbox so much and why I was subscribed for a full two years! So excited for my August box. I love how they are letting customers choose a sample now. I picked Stainiac from TheBalm, and can’t wait to get my hands on it. What sample did you choose?

Gift With Purchase Promo Code for August 2014 POPSUGAR Must Have Box!

Thanks to the lovely Liz at My Subscription Addiction, there’s a gift with purchase promo code now! Use code GWPMSA to get a Turkish Towel for free ($32 Value!). This code is limited to the first 500 redemptions or until August 8 – whichever comes first, so grab it while you can! It’s pretty rare to find a promo code like this with POPSUGAR Must Have. (The coupon will work by deducting 1% ($.40) – and that lets them know to include the Turkish towel with you first box.)

There’s also the code MHAUG10 to save $10 off your next POPSUGAR Must Have box, but this code may have already reached its maximum uses, since I’ve seen some people saying it’s no longer valid. Doesn’t hurt to try though, it’s not supposed to expire until July 31st.

And just in case you need even more reason to subscribe, August is the anniversary month for this box. They included a little bonus gift last year (a Gorjana necklace), so I’m hoping for another gift this year!

Treatsie July Box Review Plus Free Box Promo Code!

I’ve been trying to eat healthier and stay on my fitness routine this summer, so I resisted the temptation to sign up for Treatsie, a sweets subscription service. Too bad my resolve only lasted 3 months…But okay, is it possible to say no to a free box of candy?? Treatsie was running a promotion for a free box with any monthly subscription, but unfortunately that code has expired. The new promo code gets you $10 off, which is still a great deal.

Treatsie is a subscription service that delivers $20-$25 worth of high-end artisan sweets each month. They source from a lot of small, independent companies, and only feature treats with high quality ingredients. The regular Sweets subscription is $15/month, plus $4.95 shipping and handling. Use promo code FRBUCO01 to get $10 off your first box!

They also have a Chocolate subscription for $39/month, plus $6.95 shipping and handling. You receive 5-6 full sized gourmet chocolate bars, which is a bit too pricey for me. But if you’re interested, the promo code CHOCOBOX50 to gets you 50% off your first box!

I was initially concerned about chocolate melting in the mail, since we’re talking about Texas heat which is serious business, but my box came in a very heavy insulated FedEx package with ice packs. All the items were actually kind of cold when I opened it up, so I think they’ve covered their bases really well with that.

I love that they list all the values for you as well as how much a full sized item would cost. I’m also a big fan of their shop, since I hate it when I fall in love with a product in a box and have no way of repurchasing!

Such beautiful packaging. I’ve been on the lookout for good subscription services to gift, and this one is at the top of my list. I think it would be a great one to give for the holidays. Am I thinking too far ahead?

Seattle Chocolates Truffle Bars (3) | $3.50 each
Delicious! And I’m loving that they’re all full sized bars. I got one Milk Chocolate bar, one Dark Chocolate bar, and one Total Toffee bar. Hands down my favorite is the toffee; I adore anything with toffee in it. These truffle bars are also non-GMO and gluten-free.

Raley’s Confectionary Treatsie Variety Mix | $6.00
Just looking at pictures of this place makes me want to visit and see the candy being made! These rock candies are so adorable, and the fact that each piece is made by hand makes it so much more special. The mix contains a bunch of different flavors including: lemon, grapefruit, pomegranate, cherry, watermelon, mango, and 9 others. I haven’t been able to try them all out yet, but the ones I have tried have been awesome!

Shotwell Candy Co. “Old Fashioned” Cocktail Caramels | $3.50
Adorable packaging! I got three caramels in the little muslin bag, and they’re pretty big pieces. I love that this is inspired by the “Old Fashioned” cocktail, and it is infused with aromatic bitters, Kentucky bourbon whiskey, and orange extract. How fun!

Shotwell Candy Co. Hand-Crushed Espresso Caramels | $3.50
Equally delicious as the Old Fashioned ones. These have crushed espresso beans sprinkled on them, so it’s an interesting play with texture as well. I want to order a box of these for the office; they certainly helped keep me awake this morning!

This box was like made for me. I love caramels and hard candies, and the toffee chocolate bar was totally perfect. I couldn’t be more happy! But then again, I can’t imagine too many sweets that I don’t like. Maybe licorice? The total value for this box is $23.50, which is pretty good for a $15 food box. I’ve always considered food boxes to be less about value and more about the curation, so I don’t hold them to the same standard as a box like POPSUGAR Must Have. And besides, I got this box for free since it was my first, so absolutely zero complaints from me! Can’t wait to see what’s in the August box!

$10 Off Coupon for August 2014 POPSUGAR Must Have Box!

Whew, finally another promo code for POPSUGAR Must Have! Use code MHAUG10 to save $10 off your next POPSUGAR Must Have box! Not sure about the expiration date, so definitely use it while you can. And just in case you need another little push to subscribe, August is the anniversary month for this box. They included a little bonus gift last year (a Gorjana necklace), so I’m hoping for another gift this year!

One Year of Birchbox +$25 Credit for only $74.25!

Wait what?? I woke up this morning to an email from Gilt City about an awesome deal from Birchbox! Get a 1 year subscription plus $25 credit in the store for only $99. But if you’re a first time purchaser on Gilt City like I was, you get 25% off, making it only $74.25! But you do have to use a referral link, so if you’re interested, feel free (and pretty please!) use my link 🙂

Oh and if you hate referral links but still want a discount, use WELCOME20 to get 20% off your first order.

I subscribed to Birchbox a year ago and stopped because I was completely overwhelmed with samples. But with such an amazing deal I just couldn’t say no. If you count the credit as part of the value, it’s like paying $49.25 for a year of Birchbox. And considering each box contains at least 5 samples, and each sample gives you 10 points when you review it (worth $5 in the store), you’re looking at $60 worth of store credit for a whole year!
