Living in Texas I seem to always be in the last group to get my subscription shipments! I’ve been dying to get my Quarterly Nina Garcia box all week, ever since I saw the first spoilers. It finally got here yesterday, and it was definitely worth the wait.
Quarterly is a service that offers subscriptions curated by influential and inspirational people in various fields and specialties. I love the wide range they cover, I think they really have something for everyone. Each box ships once every 3 months, and depending on who your curator is, each shipment is $25, $50, or $100. Nina’s box is $100 per shipment, which is pricey but in my opinion absolutely worth it.
Check out my review for the 2nd shipment (#NGQ02) here!
As usual, all the items are individually wrapped in tissue paper, so it’s a lot of fun to open! Even though I peeked and knew what was in this package, it was still really exciting. Plus, there are several items that had variation so I was curious to see which ones I got.
Nest Bamboo Votive Candle | $14.00
I love Nest candles, so any fragrance would have been a win for me. I really wanted to try Grapefruit (my favorite!), but this Bamboo one is lovely! It’s not too feminine and very fresh, which is just perfect for Summer.
Joico K-Pak Intense Hydrator | $19.99
At first I wasn’t very fond of the scent of this deep conditioner since it’s on the strong side, but the results are awesome! It’s perfect for restoring your hair after a day at the beach or swimming in a pool. I hate how dried out my hair gets when I swim regularly, so this was a real lifesaver. I just leave it in for about 5 minutes when I shower, and my hair feels super soft afterwards. Happy to discover this product!
Surya Brasil Sapien Women Shave Gel | $20.39
Love!! This shave gel smells totally amazing and it’s free of sulfates, parabens, phthalates, all that questionable stuff. It doesn’t dry my skin out and gets me a really smooth shave. Perfect for summer! Luckily I found it at my local Whole Foods, so when I run out I can just pick it up on my next grocery trip. Such a great new find!
Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Spray Sunscreen SPF 30 | $7.99
I know some people weren’t pleased about seeing a drugstore brand in this box, but I’m totally fine with it. You can’t go wrong with sunscreen, no matter what brand! I think this is a new product as well, because last year I remember I could only find SPF 15 Hawaiian Tropic spray. And quick tip: be sure to apply the spray very generously, just spraying a light overall mist won’t be enough! Apparently a lot of people haven’t been using spray sunscreen properly (especially on children) and aren’t getting enough coverage.
CK One Color Pure Color Lipstick in Entice | $16.00
This is my first time trying Calvin Klein’s makeup line, and I’m pleasantly surprised. The color has good staying power and it applies smoothly. I still prefer Estee Lauder’s lipsticks (so buttery!) but this is a solid option as well. Ulta carries CK now so I might pick up another shade with my next coupon 🙂
The color I got is Entice, which is a little darker than my usual go-to lipstick shade, but is still pretty neutral. It works well with my skintone, and I’m a fan!
Print All Over Me Canvas Clutch | $20.00 (??)
This clutch looks very similar to the one that got sent out in the POPSUGAR Must Have Summer Box that I missed out on. Although the print isn’t my favorite, I think Print All Over Me is a really cool idea! I couldn’t find this exact clutch or print on their website, so it’s probably a custom item for Nina’s box. Since they have tote bags for $28.00, I think $20.00 is a fair assessment for this.
Koku Shark Clutch with Raffia Trim | $108.87 (??)
I’m a little confused about why we got two different clutch bags in the same box, but at least they’re completely different in style. While I think the plexiglass shark is pretty cute, the raffia trim is kind of strange. I don’t think I’m trendy enough to pull this one off! This clutch has a bunch of variations from what I’ve seen, and I’m glad I got one with a shark (some people got one with fish bones). I’m guessing on the value here based on very similar pouches on their online store, but I think the pricing for Koku pouches in general is pretty crazy. Their cotton tote bags are $313, what?! I get that everything is handmade in Greece, but that still seems excessive for just cotton bags.
Spenglish Muito Cool Cap | $30.00
I’m thinking that Spenglish products just aren’t for me. Nina sent a t-shirt from them in the previous box that said “Muy Cool”, and I just wouldn’t feel very comfortable wearing that. Who wears a shirt that literally says “very cool”? I think this is another exclusive for the box, since I can’t find this hat on the website. i don’t know how much caps like this usually cost, so I’m just going to guess $30? I do like that she included a World Cup item, though after that abysmal Germany v. Brazil match I don’t know if this World Cup is one that Brazil fans will want to commemorate…
Formula X Nail Polish in Push The Limits | $10.50
Love this bright vermillion color! Bright pedicures paired with cute wedges just scream Summer. I also just recently started my Formula X collection so this was perfect. I’m still bummed that Sephora ended their deal with OPI, but Formula X is almost as good. They have some gorgeous special effects top coats everyone should try!
Melissa Shoes Desk Ornament | ??
Soooo I have no idea why anyone would want a mini rubber shoe. It’s kind of interesting, but it literally has no purpose. It’s approximately 4.5 inches long and smells sort of like bubblegum. I think it’s supposed to be a collectible, and I saw at least 3 other variations in other boxes, so for a Melissa fan it might be worth trying to get them all. But for me it’s pretty pointless.
Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray | $21.50
This stuff is amazing!! Hands down the best dry shampoo/texturizer on the market, in my opinion. You can build serious volume, and it brushes right out without making your hair stiff. It never flakes and is completely clear, so you can use a lot of it without worrying. it also smells really good, which is always a plus. I hate that “hairspray smell”, you know what I’m talking about! Too bad Oribe is pretty pricey so I’m always happy to get more in my subscription boxes.
Red Flower Italian Blood Orange Hand and Face Towelette | $0.71
One of the fanciest towelettes I’ve ever received, that’s for sure. I wish I had more than one though! Super cute packaging, too! What’s up with all these fancy beautifully packaged towelettes? Last month’s POPSUGAR box had absolutely gorgeous wipes.
Otterbox Phone Case for iPhone 5/5S or Galaxy S5 | $49.95
I wish boxes had codes like this one more often! It’s a code for a free case, with shipping included. You don’t even have to put in credit card information! I hate getting “gift cards” that aren’t really gift cards because they are not stackable and the amount is not enough to buy any item…so I’m very pleased that this was an actual free case! And I’ve always wanted to get an Otterbox case. I’ve heard great things! I’m also digging the cool design inspired by Nina Garcia! But you can actually get any case with the code, if this colorful pattern isn’t your thing.
Frends Ella Headphones | $99.00
Saved my favorite item in the box for last! I’ve actually had my eye on these earbuds ever since the Birchbox Precious Metals box came out. I was kicking myself for not grabbing one before they sold out, and I was so jealous of everyone who got a pair of these! They’re absolutely gorgeous, and the sound quality is great. I also thought the packaging was lovely, and I might buy another pair to gift. Totally digging the lifetime warranty as well. These are officially my cutest pair of headphones!
So the total value for this box is $418.94, which is amazing, as usual. I think even though I don’t love all the items, I definitely got my moneys worth. I mean, just the earbuds alone cover the cost of the box! I seriously can’t wait for her next shipment, coming in September. Fall is definitely more my season, and I’ve got high hopes! I do appreciate her theme for this box; I feel like she stuck to Brazil and Summer very well. I wish Quarterly would release the official theme of the box beforehand, so people would at least have a general idea of what to expect. (But then again, even though I knew this box would be heavily inspired by Brazil, I never would have guessed the items…) What did everyone else think about this box?
