POPSUGAR Must Have October 2014 Review plus $10 and GWP Coupon!

Oh my god, my POPSUGAR Must Have finally got here. If any of you have been following the craziness, they’ve had some serious issues this month with their new website launch and some people still don’t have their boxes yet! Keeping in mind that one item is pretty Halloween-specific, I can understand why customers are upset.

I think what really bothers me about the whole ordeal is their lack of communication with their customers. If I had gotten an email saying “Hey, boxes are shipping late and we’re very sorry. We had issues with x, y, and z, and hope to resolve this ASAP. Thanks for bearing with us!” I would be totally content to wait. Instead, they haven’t been responding to emails and even their apology email seemed condescending and didn’t explain anything.

What’s also odd is that I never got a tracking number for this box. It sort of just showed up on my doorstep unannounced. And I actually have two active subscriptions, yet only got this one box. Still no word on when I should be expecting my other one…

POPSUGAR Must Have October 2014 Review plus $10 and GWP Coupon!

It’s too bad they had such a rough month, since this is actually a really nice curation for October and the transition to Fall! It just felt so anticlimactic when I finally got it.

POPSUGAR Must Have October 2014 Review plus $10 and GWP Coupon!

I’m pretty impressed that the maltballs made it here to Houston without melting! Maybe this is proof that it’s actually cooling down?

k. hall designs Shea Butter / Olive Oil Soap | $10.00
POPSUGAR has sent out a k. hall item before (Peony scented candle), and I absolutely loved it, so I’ve got high hopes for this bar. I can’t decide if I want to use it or gift it. The packaging is so nice so it’s perfect for gifting, but I just can’t say no to another bar of soap. Oddly enough, this was listed as an “extra” on the card and it’s sponsored by Progresso. Like…the soup company. This is the first time I’ve seen a sponsored item like this before, so I’m wondering if this will be a new trend with their boxes? At least we didn’t get cans of soup!

POPSUGAR Must Have October 2014 Review plus $10 and GWP Coupon!Dean & Deluca Pumpkin Spice Maltballs | $5.50
Maltballs are a weird thing for me. I either love them (but it’s pretty rare) or hate them. There’s not much in between. Seeing as how these are from Dean and Deluca, I was optimistic…and I turned out to be right! I thought these were super addictive. You can’t go wrong with Pumpkin Spice, right? I swear, everything comes in Pumpkin Spice flavor right now. I just picked up some Pumpkin Spice Milano cookies and Pumpkin Spice M&Ms. Have these things been around forever and I just wasn’t aware of it? I was so excited!

Nailed Kit Nail Art | $8.00
So this is the Halloween specific item I was talking about. It would be kind of pointless to get it after October 31st, right? 2 out of 4 patterns would be really weird to wear any other time of year. I haven’t tried them out yet, but I already saw some pictures online of really cute Halloween manicures that I’m excited to play around with.

Happy Socks | $12.00
I’ve always wanted to try Happy Socks! I see them in Nordstrom looking all pretty in the displays, but I never feel like I can shell out the $12 for a pair of socks when regular cheap ones work just fine. I remember being really disappointed whenever I got socks or sweaters or any sort of clothing for Christmas, and now I’m always really excited for new socks. I’m a size 6.5 and these were a tiny bit too large, but still 100% wearable. I’m curious to know if POPSUGAR was able to accomodate anyone outside of the size range? I think it’s for sizes 5 to 9.

Butter London Wink Eye Pencil Crayon | $18.00
I was sort of let down when I first saw the spoiler for another eyeliner. I literally have a drawer full of liners I haven’t used yet. But the Earl Grey color is actually very pretty, and I’m just so happy POPSUGAR sent out a color besides black. It’s pretty rare for me to find a good grey color, since I usually see silver that is really bright or greys that have too much glitter. This one does have a glitter/shimmer to it, but the grey color is pretty dark and the glitter isn’t overwhelming. I think it’s a really lovely color! I’ve also never even seen Butter London cosmetics before so this was a fun discovery. I really thought they only made nail polish!

Isaac Jacobs Acrylic Magnet Photo Frame | $36.00
I don’t have enough printed photos to warrant keeping this, but I know a lot of people who would love to have this for the holidays. It’s a really sleek design: it’s two pieces of thick clear acrylic held together by four magnets in the corners.

POPSUGAR Must Have October 2014 Review plus $10 and GWP Coupon!

Here’s a side view of the two acrylic pieces. It feels very well made and high quality, and I imagine would be really cute for holiday family photos!

Mine Chalkboard Soy Message Ceramic Candle | $24.00
I was so curious about what scent this candle would be, since I didn’t read about it in the spoilers. Mine is Pomegranate, and I’m not sure if there was any variation. It doesn’t really smell like pomegranate to me, but it’s a pleasant fruity and floral scent.

POPSUGAR Must Have October 2014 Review plus $10 and GWP Coupon!
The whole box smelled amazing thanks to this candle! I think it’s really smart that the packaging is unsealed so you can write a message on the candle before gifting. I really really really want to burn it, but I also want to gift it! Hopefully my second box gets here soon so I won’t have to decide.

POPSUGAR Must Have October 2014 Review plus $10 and GWP Coupon!

My piece of chalk broke, but is still functional. It took lots of restraint to not draw all over the candle as soon as I opened it for this picture.

Blue Jeans Bar Express $40 Credit | $40.00

POPSUGAR Must Have October 2014 Review plus $10 and GWP Coupon!

Overall, the value was definitely still there despite not having a “big ticket” item. It came out to $113.50 without the BJB Express code, and $153.50 with the code. If it weren’t for the shipping fiasco, I would be very pleased with this month! Despite all the issues, I still recommend POPSUGAR Must Have because I’ve only had good experiences with them in the past. They’ve never had shipment problems before this and whenever I had a damaged item I was taken care of promptly. I’m unhappy with how they have handled this month, but I’m cutting them a little slack because (for me) it’s their first offense.

With that being said, subscribe at your own risk! If you’re worried about getting your box by a specific date each month, you might want to wait and see how the next few months go before trying it. To me, they’re still the best box for awesome value and a consistently great curation of home + beauty + food items. So if you’re still interested, there’s a great new code out courtesy of My Subscription Addiction! Use code GWP10 to get $10 off your first box AND a Kendra Scott necklace, valued at $50.

I’ve never seen a $10 off AND GWP combined in a single code from POPSUGAR Must Have yet, so this is really great promotion. If you want to use the code GWP10 make sure your total has $10.40 deducted from it. The extra $0.40 is to confirm your GWP is added. Here’s to a speedy and amazing November box!

EDIT: As of 10/30/2014 the GWP plus $10 code isn’t valid anymore. Boo 😦 I was hoping to pick up a November box with the code. Oh well, at least there’s still another code going around. Use code FSB10 to get $10 off, valid through November 13th. Oh and the November POPSUGAR box is available for purchase! Just make sure to uncheck the “waitlist” option when you purchase!

Barkbox October 2014 Review plus 10% Off Code

My October BarkBox could not have come at a better time. We just ran out of Maddie’s favorite treats, so I was very glad to get my box and try out a couple new ones.

BarkBox is $29/month if you do the month-to-month plan, but it goes down to only $18/month if you sign up for the whole year! We sprung for the whole year since it was such a great deal! You can use my link for 10% off any subscription. And if you use my link, they’ll donate a free box to the Bark-N-Rest Retirement Center! It’s a great cause and I’m pleased that BarkBox gives back to the doggie community!

We get the “Big and Bold” box (for dogs weighing more than 50 lbs) because Maddie is right at the cut-off between medium and large. She’s about 47 lbs but since she’s so active and is so talented at destroying toys (seriously, it’s impressive) it’s always best to size up for her.

Barkbox October 2014 Review plus 10% Off Code

This month, BarkBox is implementing something they call “Scout’s Honor.” If your dog doesn’t love an item in the box, just email them at happy@barkbox.com, and they will send you a replacement item better suited for your dog or give you credit of equal value to shop at barkshop.com. Totally amazing customer service!

Barkbox October 2014 Review plus 10% Off CodeMax & Ruffy’s Pumpkin Patch Bites | $2.26
I love the Halloween theme for this box. So cute! Considering how everything seems to be “pumpkin spice” flavored around this time of year, it’s only fitting that Maddie should get some pumpkin spice treats of her own! It’s made with organic GMO-free ingredients, and the entire ingredients list only has 7 things on it (all totally wholesome stuff, like organic olive oil).

Barkbox October 2014 Review plus 10% Off CodeBaker’s Best Autumn Harvest Treats | $5.02 (approx)
Canadian-made goat liver dog treats! These also have a very short ingredient list, which I love. I’m also digging the Fall themed treats for dogs! It makes me excited for their December box.

Barkbox October 2014 Review plus 10% Off Code

Heartland Premium Weasand Strips | $2.00
This beef chew is made from 100% cow gullet, and all their products are made in Nebraska. Those are pretty much my only 2 criteria for dog chew treats (100% meat and made in the USA) so this passes the test. You can never have too many chews!

Barkbox October 2014 Review plus 10% Off Code

Squeeki Skull Dog Toy | $8.00
So this is a LOUD toy. Great for Maddie, not so great for me. After listening to an intense 15 minutes of squeaking (pass the aspirin, please), the skull was torn apart and no longer squeaks. It’s probably for the better.

Barkbox October 2014 Review plus 10% Off CodeLook at that tail go! She’s always SO pumped to have any squeaker toys.

Barkbox October 2014 Review plus 10% Off CodeMummy Squeaker Mat | $15.00
This was my favorite item (and I suspect Maddie’s favorite) in the box. It’s really big, and there are 16 individual squeakers inside. There’s also that crinkly material stuffed in there, so it crinkles when stepped on. It’s practically Maddie’s dream toy: super big so she can drag it around and sleep on it, soft and cuddly, and lots of squeakers! And it’s great for me since there’s no stuffing to clean up afterwards.

Barkbox October 2014 Review plus 10% Off CodeSuch a big toy! It took a while to get her to sit calmly for this photo….

Barkbox October 2014 Review plus 10% Off CodeOverall value for this box: $32.28. I paid about $17 for it, and I probably would have paid that amount for just the mummy mat toy in a regular pet store. It’s not an insanely good value like a POPSUGAR box, but it definitely saves me money in the long run. Plus I love the convenience of having treats and toys delivered right to my door! It saves me a trip or two to the store. I also get to discover new brands, and I’m seriously loving the curation each month. They have such adorable themes! Can’t wait to see what’s in the November box.

Birchbox October 2014 Review plus November Sample Options

Oddly enough, I never remember when Birchbox ships and when to expect it, so it’s always a surprise every month. They’re the box that got me hooked on subscriptions in the first place, so I should probably know their shipping schedule by now….But anyways, I was subscribed for a long time but quit last year when I had way too many samples. I recently signed up again because they’re honestly the best beauty subscription in terms of value. Plus, they have super adorable boxes 🙂

Birchbox is only $10/month (even less if you prepay), and they have this amazing point system. For every sample you receive in your box, you can fill out a review to get 10 points (equivalent to $1) to spend in the Birchbox shop. And since every box has at least 5 samples, you’re pretty much guaranteed to get $5 worth of credit each month if you fill out all your reviews. It’s really satisfying when you want to treat yourself to something and remember that you have $50 worth of credit sitting around in the Birchbox shop!

Birchbox October 2014 Review

They have a fairly new feature where you can pick one of your samples each month. Birchbox provides you with four options and you can choose one for your box, or you can let them surprise you with five mystery samples. I wasn’t feeling any of the options for October, so I didn’t pick my sample. But most of the time I’m super excited to choose my own. I think it’s a really awesome feature for Birchbox to add!

Birchbox October 2014 Review

Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream | $17.76
Love this! It’s definitely my favorite item from this box. It’s lightweight enough to be used twice a day and absorbs really quickly, which is really important for my morning routine. I can be picky about what I put around my eyes, but this one seems to be a keeper! It’s also a really generously sized sample, so I can get an accurate assessment of whether or not it works for me.

Birchbox October 2014 ReviewBeauty Protector Protect & Detangle | $2.74
I got this product from Birchbox in the past (before I resubscribed) and really loved it, so I’m happy to get another one! It’s another large sample, so it usually lasts me quite a while. It smells fantastic and works wonders on my hair. Protects from heat damage, conditions, holds style, AND smells really good? It’s no surprise that this is a bestseller on Birchbox!

Birchbox October 2014 ReviewDr. Brandt Pores No More Vacuum Cleaner | $11.25
I really give kudos to whomever chose the samples for me this week! It fits my style profile perfectly and I’m getting products that I seriously love. This Dr. Brandt mask is dynamite and really does get rid of stubborn blackheads. It’s not my “go-to” mask (Glamglow loyalty!) because for me it really only does one thing: extract blackheads. But it does that one job really really well 🙂

Birchbox October 2014 ReviewModelCo Party Proof Lipstick in Kitty | $8.00
I think this was one of the sample choices, but it didn’t really interest me so I was hoping to avoid it altogether. I’m not a big fan of ModelCo in my boxes since I’ve gotten way too many of their products. On the bright side, this color is totally wearable and it’s a shade I would have picked out for myself.

Birchbox October 2014 ReviewCoastal Scents Revealed 2 Eyeshadow Palette Set | $1.45
These colors are right up my alley! I go through eyeshadow really slowly, so this sample will last me a while. I tested them without primer and the color wasn’t showing up well, but with primer it’s a lot better. For the price, I think it’s a solid palette with a ton of very wearable colors at a great price.

Birchbox October 2014 ReviewMy total value for this month’s box is $41.20 and I’ll use all my products! I’m really ecstatic about such a great curation this month (my birthday month!). It makes me excited for November as well, especially with the awesome sample choices. Take a look! Your options are:

BirchBox November 2014 Selection ChoiceWhich one are you going with? I’m torn between the Royal Apothic Cuppa Cuppa Mask and the Amika Hair Mask. The Juice Beauty is also tempting, even though I generally don’t like Juice’s skincare products. I just can’t resist masks!

GlossyBox October 2014 Review + Promo Code

Somehow my GlossyBox arrived in my mailbox 2 days ago, way ahead of schedule! I’m really impressed with the changes GlossyBox seems to be making. This is the 2nd month in a row that I’ve gotten my box really early. Hopefully it’s a permanent change and we can expect mid-month arrivals every month from now on.

For those of you who are subscribing for the first time (or if you’re like me and keep canceling), here’s an awesome coupon: use coupon code GBGLAM to get a free travel sized GlamGlow Youthmud Tingexfoliate Treatment, a $19.00 value, with your first GlossyBox!

GlossyBox October 2014 Review and Promo CodeI totally got myself another GlamGlow mask (top left corner) since I love it so much and had cancelled my account last month.

GlossyBox October 2014 Review and Promo CodeSesha Botanical Hydro Mask | $9.00
I’ve had great experiences with Sesha in the past, so I’m excited to try this mask. Lately I have been totally obsessed with finding new sheet masks lately, so this is perfect. The price point is higher than what I’m used to paying, but if it works well I’ll definitely look into repurchasing. I haven’t used this mask yet…saving it for after an extra stressful day!

GlossyBox October 2014 Review and Promo CodeVince Camuto Amore Eau de Parfum | $6.00
Totally love this scent! I think it smells sort of similar to Versace Bright Crystal, which is one of my favorites. My only gripe with Bright Crystal is that it doesn’t last very long since it’s eau de toilette, so I’m really happy that this is eau de parfum. Mini bottles of perfume are just too adorable, I can never seem to get enough.

GlossyBox October 2014 Review and Promo CodeNails Inc. Westminster Bridge Matte Top Coat | $10.00
I really love Nails Inc. products, especially their top coats. But on the other hand, I’m not a big fan of matte nails. I’m all about that super glossy look or “stardust” look! I’ve seen some bloggers use matte topcoats as a basecoat and they say it works well, so I think I’ll try that. It’s also good to just have one of these on the shelf in case I ever change my mind and decide matte nails are the way to go.

GlossyBox October 2014 Review and Promo CodeProganix Volume Root Boost Finish + Body Builder | $11.99
Proganix is owned by the same company as Organix, and this is their “premium salon quality” brand. While I’ve enjoyed Organix shampoo and conditioner in the past, I didn’t really like this root booster. I feel like maybe I’m using it incorrectly or not enough, since I don’t notice any difference at all. If anyone has tips for this particular product, I’d love to hear them!

GlossyBox October 2014 Review and Promo CodeTarte Power Pigment in Flush | $24.00
Yay I love this full sized tarte lip tint! This box was completely worth it just for this product alone. The color is totally fabulous yet wearable, and tarte’s formula is nothing short of amazing. It’s really creamy and hydrating, yet wears almost like a stain and stays all day. Plus it tastes minty! I’ve tried so many lip products on the market yet always find myself reaching for these crayons on a regular basis. If you haven’t tried one yet, I highly recommend it!

GlossyBox October 2014 Review and Promo CodeHelloFresh $40 Voucher
I was sort of confused to receive this, since it feels totally random and wasn’t mentioned on the information card at all. I’ve heard of HelloFresh but never tried it because it’s on the pricey side. They deliver a box of recipes plus all the ingredients to you, so it’s literally a meal in a box ready to be cooked. The cheapest option for my zip code is a Vegetarian box with 3 meals for 2 people, which costs $59.00 including delivery. I’ll try them out for the $19 difference, but don’t think it’s something I can afford to keep using.

GlossyBox October 2014 Review and Promo CodeTotal value for the box is $60.99, not including the $40 voucher. I usually don’t count vouchers in the total value unless I can use it without spending any extra money. I knew all the spoilers before I purchased this box, so there were no surprises and I think it’s a great GlossyBox. The value is particularly awesome for me, since I was going to purchase a full sized tarte power pigment anyways. Here’s hoping November has great things in store for us! (And don’t forget to use coupon code GBGLAM to get a free travel sized GlamGlow Youthmud Tingexfoliate Treatment! It’s my favorite code; I hope it stays valid for another month!)

POPSUGAR Must Have October 2014 Spoilers!

I’ve been creeping online for spoilers of the October POPSUGAR Must Have box, and it looks like we finally know the contents of the entire box!

— Spoilers below!! —

POPSUGAR Must Have August 2014 Spoilers

Each October POPSUGAR box will contain:

POPSUGAR Must Have October 2014 Spoilers!

Butter London Wink Eye Pencil Crayon | $18.00
Happy Socks | $12.00
Nailed Kit nail art | $8.00
Isaac Jacobs Acrylic Magnet Photo Frame | $50.00ish (on sale at Neiman Marcus for around $25.00)
k. hall designs Shea Butter / Olive Oil Soap | $10.00
Mine Chalkboard Soy Message Ceramic Candle | $24.00
Dean & Deluca Pumpkin Spice Maltballs | $5.50

What do you think? Personally I’m pretty excited, since I find this to be a very Fall-appropriate box. The value comes out to about $127.50, which is awesome and totally expected for POPSUGAR even though this box doesn’t have a “big ticket item” like a lot of the previous boxes. I’m interested to see what variations I’ll get! I’m guessing there will be a color variation for the eyeliner and socks, and scent variations for the candle and soap. I think the assortment of brands is really fun this month. Here’s hoping we get a gift card to use at Butter London or Dean & Deluca!

There aren’t any $10 promo codes available right now (to the best of my knowledge), but you can always use REFER5 for $5 off. I’ll update this post if any better coupons come along!
