Birchbox December 2014 Review plus January 2015 Sample Options

It’s always really exciting when I get a special Birchbox box design, like the one for December! They always make the cutest patterns and graphics. They have such an amazing design team there! If I ever move to New York, that would totally be my dream job.

Birchbox is only $10/month (even less if you prepay), and they have this fabulous point system that makes every month a total steal. For every sample you receive in your box, you can fill out a review to get 10 points (equivalent to $1) to spend in the Birchbox shop. And since every box has at least 5 samples, you’re pretty much guaranteed to get $5 worth of credit each month if you fill out all your reviews. It’s really satisfying when you want to treat yourself to something and remember that you have $50 worth of credit sitting around in the Birchbox shop! It was a lifesaver for the holidays, by the way 🙂

Birchbox December 2014 Review plus January 2015 Sample OptionsLook how cute! I totally collect and hoard these special boxes even though I have no idea what I’ll end up doing with it. Does anyone else have this problem? It just seems like such a waste to throw out a pretty little box like this!

Birchbox December 2014 Review plus January 2015 Sample OptionsKlorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk (Natural Tint) | $9.75
Dry shampoo is another one of those things (like black eyeliner) that I have way too much of thanks to subscription boxes. But I will say that I run through it pretty fast so even though I have a huge stash waiting, I’m confident that it will all get used. Can’t say the same for my pile of eyeliner. I was intrigued by this dry shampoo since it’s tinted and not your typical white. It works really well for us brunette girls! If your scalp is super pale though, you might end up with a beige sort of tint.

Birchbox December 2014 Review plus January 2015 Sample OptionsAcure Organics Sensitive Facial Cleanser Argan Oil + Probiotic | $3.75
If you have sensitive skin, this is a great cleanser! My skin gets really finicky in the winter so I usually switch to a more sensitive and gentle cleaner. It’s very mild, so don’t expect your makeup to come off with this alone. I use it for the days when I’m going makeup free or after I’ve already removed 95% of the makeup with wipes. My skin loves the argan oil and since it’s so gentle it doesn’t dry your skin out at all. It’s supposed to be fragrance-free, but it obviously does still have some scent. There’s just no added perfumes or anything. Personally, I really like the light natural scent of this.

Birchbox December 2014 Review plus January 2015 Sample OptionsW3LL People Bio Brightener Stick | $11.00 (??)
This was my sample choice for December, and I’m fairly happy with it. The shimmer/glow is natural looking and a little goes a long way. (Totally guessing on the value since I don’t know how large this sample is. I’m guessing it’s approximately 1/3 of the full size.) I was a little confused about why they chose to give this sample in a tub when the actual product is a stick. It seems weird, right? Because you would apply it totally differently! I thought it was annoying to use from a tub, but if it were in a stick form I would probably like it more.

Birchbox December 2014 Review plus January 2015 Sample OptionsEssentiel Elements Wake Up Rosemary Shower Gel | $3.56
Smells so good! It’s a really earthy/woodsy scent so if you love rosemary and strong earthy scents, this would be perfect for you. It sort of wakes me up in the mornings so that was a nice little bonus. I’m not really one to splurge on pricey shower gel so I definitely won’t be buying the full size…but this cute little mini was fun while it lasted!

Birchbox December 2014 Review plus January 2015 Sample OptionsMirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge in Sydney | $7.04
Whoa this is bright!! Like a vivid hot pink. It’s too bold for me, but the formula feels nice and is long lasting. It isn’t completely smudge-proof though, so I would feel pretty apprehensive about using such a bright color and eating anything. I’m notorious for messing up my lips since I’m a total slob when I eat anything.

Birchbox December 2014 Review plus January 2015 Sample Options

Overall value for December is $35.10, pretty much middle of the road for Birchbox. This isn’t my favorite box, but it’s honestly not bad either. I will use most of the samples and got my $5 worth of points 🙂
And now check out the 3 January 2015 sample choices! Your options are:

I like that I can get the matching body lotion for the shower gel I got this month! Too bad I’m already out of the gel. The Tocca hand cream is super tempting since Cleopatra is an amazing grapefruit scent that I love love love! Also, there are two guest editor box options for January:

Box 1 (Relax & Recharge):

  • Manna Kadar Lip Locked – All of Me
  • Perlier Body Butter – Lavender
  • Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream
  • When Travelmate Sheetmask
  • Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair!
  • Teapigs Tea Bags (Licorice & Peppermint, Chamomile Flowers)

Box 2 (Tone It Up):

  • Coastal Scents Eyeshadow Palette – Latte
  • Aqua Reveal Satin Bright Soft Water Peel
  • Klorane Dry Shampoo
  • Whish Body Butter – Lavender

Ahhhh I love it al! I’m pretty sure I’ll try to get the Relax & Recharge box since I desperately need a hair mask and want to try the Manna Kadar gloss. I’ve also gotten the Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream before and really liked it. Good job, Birchbox! What samples are you eyeing? Do any of the guest boxes jump out at you? I’d love to know!
