Barkbox January 2015 Review plus 10% Off Code

I know it’s already February and I’m still reviewing a January box, but I had to board Maddie for a little bit while I was traveling and she didn’t have a chance to try all her goodies in the BarkBox yet. Now that she’s back home with us and all the holiday travel is over, she can commence being the super spoiled puppy that she is.

BarkBox is $29/month if you do the month-to-month plan, but it goes down to only $18/month if you sign up for the whole year! We sprung for the whole year since it was such a great deal. Before getting BarkBox we were probably dropping between $30 to $50 a month at pet stores, and now one box usually lasts us through the month. You can use my link for 10% off any subscription. And if you use my link, they’ll donate a free box to the Bark-N-Rest Retirement Center! It’s a great cause and I’m pleased that BarkBox gives back to the doggie community!

You can choose different sizes when you order, and we get the Large box (for dogs over 50 lbs). Even though Maddie is usually around 46ish lbs, she has the energy and strength of a much larger dog so we always size up for toys.

Max and Ruffy’s Blizzard Bites | $5.00
The last time we got a bag of Max and Ruffy’s treats Maddie loved them, so I knew these would be a hit as well. These treats actually smell really amazing: clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and molasses! Smells just like a holiday cookie. I appreciate that the company uses minimal ingredients that are GMO-free and organic. All their ingredients are also human-grade, so you know you’re getting a real quality product.

Barkbox January 2015 Review plus 10% Off CodeButcher’s Block Bones Trachea | $2.00
Every month we get some sort of chew treat similar to this, and they’re perfect for Maddie. She loves to gnaw on hardier treats, so we like to save these for nail-trimmings or bath days as a nice reward. Despite the low cost, this chew is 100% beef with no extra ingredients and selected from only USA raised cattle. I should really start buying more of these in bulk to keep on hand.

Barkbox January 2015 Review plus 10% Off CodeCaru Real Pork Stew | $6.00
I was really excited to see this in our box this month! It’s something pretty unique and seems to be of amazing quality. All the ingredients are human-grade, and it’s grain free, GMO-free, preservative-free, the whole nine yards.

Barkbox January 2015 Review plus 10% Off CodeWe celebrated Maddie’s birthday yesterday so I gave her this stew as a topper for her normal food, and she LOVED it. It actually looked and smelled pretty appetizing, and I will definitely be purchasing more in the future. She was licking the bowl to get the last drop and staring wistfully at the empty carton on the counter.

Barkbox January 2015 Review plus 10% Off CodeAussie Naturals Salmon Skins | $8.00
While Maddie adored these, I wasn’t a big fan. These are 100% salmon skins so of course they definitely smelled very fishy. I was a little worried about the scent transferring into my carpets, so I made sure to feed her in the kitchen where we have tile floors. I also had a lot of the scales fall off the skins while she was chewing on them, so I had to clean up the mess. Generally I prefer treats that 1) aren’t as smelly and 2) have little to no cleanup afterwards.

Barkbox January 2015 Review plus 10% Off CodeBarkMade Snowflake | $11.00
I think for normal dogs, BarkBox toys hold up pretty well to wear and tear. They definitely feel well made and sturdy. But since I have a monster shredder of a dog, they never fare all that well in my household. Luckily we get a good mix of plush and silicone toys in the box so we can still build up her permanent toy collection. This one has lasted a surprisingly long amount of time (5 days and counting) and it’s probably because each part of the snowflake has either its own squeaker or crinkle plastic. I think as a result, Maddie has sort of addressed each segment as its own separate toy. Might be grabbing another one of these snowflakes since it holds up well and Maddie really enjoys the numerous squeakers. It’s also a good size for her (about 10 inches in diameter).

Barkbox January 2015 Review plus 10% Off CodeOverall value: $32.00, which is standard for BarkBox. I’m happy with the value and I really love the winter theme. They always have such adorable boxes and great curation! I can’t wait for the February box.
