Barkbox July 2015 Review plus 10% Off Code

The Summer heat has been absolutely brutal these past few weeks here in Houston! We’ve been keeping Maddie indoors a lot more since it’s simply too hot for her to be running around in the park, so I’m grateful to have toys and treats on hand to keep her entertained at home.

BarkBox is $29/month if you do the month-to-month plan, but it goes down to only $18/month if you sign up for the whole year! We sprung for the whole year since it was such a great deal. Before getting BarkBox we were probably dropping between $30 to $50 a month at pet stores, and now one box usually lasts us through the month. You can use my link for 10% off any subscription. And if you use my link, they’ll donate a free box to the Bark-N-Rest Retirement Center! It’s a great cause and I’m pleased that BarkBox gives back to the doggie community!

You can choose different sizes when you order, and we get the Large box (for dogs over 50 lbs). Even though Maddie is about 46 lbs, she has the energy and strength of a much larger dog so we always size up for toys. BarkBox always has a theme for each month, and July’s is “Circus”.

Barkbox July 2015 Review plus 10% Off CodeFeel Good Treat Company Trail Blazin’ Beef Bitz | $8.00
These are treats that can be broken into smaller pieces for training, and Maddie loves the crunchy texture. They are made in Canada from human-grade ingredients. The ingredients list is fabulously simple: beef liver, oat flour, extra virgin olive oil, and oregano. Totally perfect for stomach sensitive pups that are avoiding wheat or have other allergies!

Barkbox July 2015 Review plus 10% Off CodeBarkMade Chicken Biscuits by Healthy Dogma | $8.00
Custom made for Barkbox by Healthy Dogma, a very reputable brand with great products. The treats contain: chicken, barley, oat, peas, and chicken fat. I think the packaging for this is ridiculously adorable, and the treats themselves are high quality with responsible ingredients. So cute how they made the custom container fit so well with the theme!

Barkbox July 2015 Review plus 10% Off CodeHeart shaped biscuits are always a win.

Barkbox July 2015 Review plus 10% Off CodeButcher’s Block LLC Trachea Chew | $3.00
We usually get one chew in every box, which Maddie definitely appreciates. She loves to gnaw on these and it’s always the first thing she tries to grab out of the box. I usually use them as a distraction while I clip her nails, which has been working out really well for us. This is the first time a chew has been “sponsored” by another company, so I’m not sure if that’s going to be a new thing or if it’s a one time promotion for Voyce (a website that helps you monitor your pet’s health).

Barkbox July 2015 Review plus 10% Off CodeEncore Firehose | $15.00
At first I wasn’t too impressed with this toy since it looks so plain and flat (almost like a frisbee), but Maddie loves to chew on it and throw it around, so I guess it’s actually a success! It’s made from fire hose material, which is designed for heavy duty abrasion. Sounds perfect for Maddie, right? It’s nylon canvas on the outside and soft but durable rubber on the inside, and can double as a water toy since it has no stuffing. There are tw squeakers inside the hose as well.

Barkbox July 2015 Review plus 10% Off CodeBarkMade Circus Elephant | $11.00
Last but definitely not least, a custom made elephant toy! It’s so cute that I was a little reluctant to hand it over to Maddie because she’s so efficient at destroying all her plush toys. I am kind of annoyed that we received the medium size when there’s a large version of this exact toy (I mean, we get the large dog box for a reason!), but since my dog is on the cut-off between medium and large it worked out okay for her. I just wish I could figure out how BarkBox decides what size to send for which dogs.

Barkbox July 2015 Review plus 10% Off CodeGoing to town on the poor elephant.

Barkbox July 2015 Review plus 10% Off CodeThis month my box came to a total of $45.00, which is a great value for what I paid. All the treats have extremely short ingredients lists this month, which I’m a fan of. I always feel better knowing that my dog is getting more wholesome and healthy snacks! The toys were also a big hit, and despite the elephant being a smaller size than I would have preferred, I’m still very satisfied with the quality and designs. Maddie had a fantastic time using all the items in this box and as always, we can’t wait for the next month!

Stuff You Need Cheap (SYNC) Men’s Subscription Box Review

So it’s pretty rare that I get to review a men’s subscription box, since my boyfriend doesn’t really subscribe to anything besides the occasional Bespoke box. But the folks over at Stuff You Need Cheap reached out and offered me a box of briefs to review. Luckily my boyfriend was kind enough to lend his body for reviewing purposes, though I think he was just really excited that a box was actually 100% for him for once (since I have a tendency to steal some of the Bespoke items…).

Stuff You Need Cheap (SYNC) is a new subscription service that sends out boxer briefs and socks. It’s a pretty simple concept: for $18.00/month, you either receive 3 pairs of briefs or 3 pairs of socks. The months alternate between briefs and socks, so if you subscribe for 2 months you would get a shipment of each. It looks like they’re starting shipments in September, which will be briefs, and October will be socks.

Disclaimer: There are no affiliate links in this post, but I did receive this box for review purposes.

I received my shipment in a plain package because their custom-printed ones had not arrived yet, but this is a picture of what the actual subscription box will look like.

Stuff You Need Cheap (SYNC) Subscription Review

We received 3 pairs of men’s large boxer briefs in the box. My boyfriend is usually a large, and very occasionally a medium, and these fit him really well. He thinks they’re very slightly on the smaller side, so if you aren’t sure what size to choose I would size up.

Stuff You Need Cheap (SYNC) Subscription ReviewThis is my favorite design that I received this month. The fabric is the same for all 3 pairs (and I think will be the same consistently for all their boxer briefs), and it’s a really really soft material. My boyfriend actually thinks these are among the most comfortable briefs he’s ever had, so this was a really fun box for him to discover. He wishes this was around when he was younger! I’m pretty sure he was one of those guys who always neglected to do laundry and had to go commando for a few days back in college…

Stuff You Need Cheap (SYNC) Subscription Review

Not a big fan of this pattern, but since they’re undies I don’t really care either. My boyfriend will pretty much wear anything so he’s just glad these are super soft. The fit and cut is practical, not too short or excessively long and the waistband sits comfortably on him.

Stuff You Need Cheap (SYNC) Subscription ReviewI think these pineapples are so adorable! SYNC’s designs are obviously for a younger demographic, which makes a lot of sense for their target audience of college students. I think the fun patterns are a smart idea because it makes the subscription more exciting. Since you already know exactly what you’re getting each month (briefs or socks), the different designs are what give you that subscription surprise feeling we’re all so hooked on (looking at you, other box fanatics!). You know exactly what feeling I’m describing.

Stuff You Need Cheap (SYNC) Subscription ReviewOn the back of each pair there’s a screenprinted logo. You know how on some cheap screenprinted fabric the ink feels really stiff and you can feel it when you’re wearing it? And it starts to peel/crack after you put it in the dryer? Well with these you definitely don’t have that problem. You can’t feel the ink at all, and it doesn’t have any issues in the dryer.

Stuff You Need Cheap (SYNC) Subscription ReviewAnd of course, the true test of how well made these boxer briefs are: how does it hold up in the wash? I put it through 2 wash cycles so far and it didn’t shrink, pill, or show any wear or tear. The colors didn’t fade either. It wasn’t until afterward that I read the wash directions (I know, I know..) and I didn’t even wash mine on a cold cycle like they recommend. I think I did one hot and one warm? But it didn’t seem to matter. And I mean what kind of college student takes the time to consider what wash cycle to choose? The important thing is that these are durable and can probably withstand a good amount of laundry abuse, so it’s great for your average college student.

Stuff You Need Cheap (SYNC) Subscription ReviewFinal verdict on the box: I think it’s definitely well worth the money. The material is seriously really soft and comfortable without being too thin, and the designs are fun and age-appropriate. The quality is fantastic and on par with the more expensive stuff you get in stores. For similar quality I’ve paid anywhere between $16–$25 for a pair for my boyfriend. At just $6 a pair, SYNC’s subscription is a great deal. If you’re looking for a gift subscription for a college-aged guy in your life, this would be a good bet!

Rachel Zoe Box of Style Fall 2015 Box Spoiler!

Rachel Zoe Box of Style Fall 2015 Box Spoiler!

Thoughts? I’m ecstatic! I love rose gold accessories and really appreciate the inclusion of two different strap colors. I’m pretty sure I’ll be getting another box to gift, since my best friend would love to receive this watch! I can’t wait to see what the items will be…September could not come sooner!

Check out my review of the Summer 2015 box to get a sense of what to expect 🙂

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2015 Review and $5 Off Coupon

My July POPSUGAR Must Have box got here a couple days ago and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the contents ever since I first opened it. I’ve been flying around more this Summer, so it was great to see travel as a big theme for this month. It seems that I’ve been on a lucky streak with subscription boxes lately. All the boxes I’ve gotten in the past few weeks have been right up my alley! My wallet is feeling a bit sore though…

POPSUGAR Must Have is $39.99/month and features a mix of lifestyle items, beauty products, accessories, and snacks. Generally there’s one food/snack item every month, 1 beauty item, and 1 lifestyle/home item. The rest seems to vary month to month. It’s hands down my favorite subscription and this is my 2nd year as a subscriber. I can’t recommend it enough! For those who are interested, use MUSTHAVE5 to get $5 off your first box.

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2015 Review and $5 Off Coupon

Henri Bendel Signature Stripe Canvas Dopp Kit | $28.00
This was announced as the first spoiler for the box, and it got me really excited to receive my box. It’s so nice to receive a Henri Bendel item! This dopp kit is very well made with heavy canvas on the outside and a water-resistant coating on the inside. It’s on the smaller side for a dopp kit (I’d probably need 2 to bring everything I need), but it’s good for ultra light packers and weekend trips. It’s also small enough to fit into a tote or shoulder bag for daily use.

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2015 Review and $5 Off CouponIt opens all the way and is lined with an easy to clean waterproof material. I’m rather clumsy with my cosmetics and toiletries, so I’m forever cleaning up loose powder and small spills in my current bags. This will make it so much faster and easier! I wish all dopp bags just automatically came with a waterproof interior.

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2015 Review and $5 Off CouponSupergoop! Defense Refresh Setting Mist SPF 50 | $28.00
This was the second spoiler that was released, and I could not wait to try it. I’ve never used a setting spray with such high SPF, and I’ve liked all the Supergoop! products that I have used in the past. Despite some less than favorable reviews on Sephora, I found this spray to be easy to use and effective. You have to shake really well before each application, and it does take a few spritzes to cover your whole face. The rosemary scent isn’t overpowering and goes away quickly. Personally, I would still apply a good base of sunscreen before makeup and use this spray as a setting mist and also for touch ups throughout the day. But that’s just me since I’m crazy about sun protection.

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2015 Review and $5 Off CouponYes To Blueberries Cleansing Facial Wipes | $5.99
I’ve tried these wipes in the past and they work just fine, but aren’t my favorite. They take my makeup off pretty well and don’t sting my eyes, though for heavy eye makeup you’re better off with actual eye makeup remover. The wipes claim to be moisturizing so there’s no need to rinse your face off afterwards, but my face always feels sort of tacky/greasy so I rinse off anyways. Even though these aren’t my first choice for facial wipes, it certainly doesn’t hurt to have a fresh pack on hand, and I’ll definitely put them to use.

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2015 Review and $5 Off CouponThe Good Bean Fruit & No-Nut Bar in Chocolate Berry | $1.99
Lately POPSUGAR has been sending bars instead of snacks like chips and candy. While I know I’m supposed to be happy about eating healthier and having less snacks around the house, I do miss the old snacks! This company makes good chips, and I wish they had sent a bag of those instead…but the good thing is that this bar is delicious. The dark chocolate and berry combination is great and I like that chickpeas in place of traditional nuts.

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2015 Review and $5 Off CouponSorial Card Case | $28.00
We received a Sorial crossbody bag back in November, and this card case is made of the same material. It’s a vegan saffiano leather that is pretty sturdy and great at resisting stains. I’ve used my crossbody a lot and it looks perfectly new! I have been trying to transition from my bulky wallet to using a card case for day-to-day errands, so I’m pleased to get this. It’s well made and holds 4 credit cards comfortably.

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2015 Review and $5 Off CouponPop Dental Portable Toothbrush | $19.99
I’ve never received a toothbrush in a box like this before, but I’m really glad I did. This is simply perfect for travel and cleans my teeth very well. The slim case keeps the brush clean and sanitary and allows the brush to stand upright on the counter. It needs one battery to operate (included) and you can easily purchase replacement brush heads. I have a feeling this is going to be a new staple for my traveling needs!

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2015 Review and $5 Off CouponHallmark Signature Greeting Cards (3) | $14.99
When I first heard that we were getting Hallmark cards, I’ll admit I wasn’t thrilled. I love to buy letterpress cards from Paper Source and handmade ones from Papyrus and pretty much never even bother looking at Hallmark cards. Imagine my surprise when I received these and they’re beautiful! As it turns out, Hallmark’s newest collection, Signature, is a more luxe collection featuring handcrafted cards with specialty papers and embellishments.

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2015 Review and $5 Off CouponI will definitely be checking these out next time I’m at the store! Sorry for the bad photo: the card on the left is a wedding card with handmade paper fans, and the right is a 3D pineapple raised from the paper. Lovely! I must be the perfect demographic for POPSUGAR since I am desperately in need of wedding cards, so that one will go to use right away.

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2015 Review and $5 Off CouponMy total box value for July comes out to $126.96 but more importantly, I’ll use every item that I received! Despite most of the items being very practical, it still felt really fun and interesting to me. The cards were a delightful surprise! I also think the inspiration spoilers of traveling and 4th of July were illustrated very well in the curation. I can definitely see the red, white, and blue and stripes from the 4th of July spoiler reflected in the items.

This box is still for sale if you’re interested (don’t forget to use MUSTHAVE5 to get $5 off) and stay tuned for August spoilers!

Rachel Zoe Box of Style Summer 2015 Review

Hands down my most anticipated box this season is the Rachel Zoe Box of Style. It’s pretty much exactly what it sounds like: a box filled with fashion, beauty, and lifestyle items curated by Rachel Zoe! It’s a quarterly subscription, so it ships in March (Spring), July (Summer), September (Fall), and December (Winter). Every box promises $300+ value for only $100, or you can sign up for a whole year for $350.

This Summer box is the 2nd one they’ve ever done, since it’s still a relatively new subscription box. I didn’t get the Spring box and I was kicking myself when I saw what was inside! I ended up buying most of that box off of Ebay and immediately signed up for a whole year so I won’t have to miss another shipment. If you want to see the contents of the Spring 2015 box, Liz over at My Subscription Addiction has a fantastic review!

Rachel Zoe Box of Style Summer 2015 ReviewFirst look! I gotta say, I was super impressed with the packaging. If any of you have ever received any of the Popsugar Special Edition boxes, the box quality is similar. It’s very sturdy and can (and will, in my case) be reused as storage boxes or something. If you purchased this as a gift, your giftee will definitely be impressed!

Rachel Zoe Box of Style Summer 2015 Review

The little booklet that comes with the box is really comprehensive. It definitely feels like Rachel Zoe was heavily involved in the curation since she comments on why she picked each item and adds little tips and tricks.

Rachel Zoe Box of Style Summer 2015 Review

It’s much more substantial than the usual, which is just a card listing the contents. There’s actually really interesting tidbits about how to use the products and even a Q & A with Mara Hoffman! It’s something I actually read through and enjoyed.

Rachel Zoe Box of Style Summer 2015 Review

Each item came individually wrapped, which I always love. It’s just so much fun to unwrap each item, feels like an impromptu Christmas!

Rachel Zoe Box of Style Summer 2015 ReviewThe Cambridge Satchel Company Large Push Lock Cross Body Bag | $150.00
For each box, they release the “hero item” of the box ahead of time so you can know what the highest value item is. I think that’s a great system and makes it easier for people to spend $100, since it’s not a complete gamble. It also doesn’t detract too much from the whole surprise element of a subscription box because there’s always still another 5 or 6 items in each shipment that aren’t released.

As soon as I saw the spoiler for this bag, I knew I made the right choice in getting the annual subscription. I’ve been wanting a white purse but didn’t want to spend too much on it, so this was so very perfect for me. I adore The Cambridge Satchel Company and know they make quality items, so I had no concerns about the leather quality or craftsmanship.

Rachel Zoe Box of Style Summer 2015 ReviewBeautiful leather, and very spacious. It holds my wallet, phone, keys, and makeup perfectly. The straps are detachable so you can also use it as a clutch. I’m a tiny bit worried about how well the white color will hold up over time, but it’s such a classic and chic piece that will go with any outfit. I’ll just try to be very very careful with it.

Rachel Zoe Box of Style Summer 2015 ReviewToo Faced Sun Bunny Natural Bronzer | $30.00
I’m always happy to get Too Faced products (adore their packaging!) so I was thrilled to see this. It’s so perfect for Summer and it’s a very natural looking bronzer. Not too shimmery, and can be applied lightly for a barely there look or more heavy handed for a more tan look. It works very well for me because I have pink undertones in my complexion. I also own Snow Bunny and I can tell you first hand that these last forever. I’ve been waiting to hit the pan for like, at least a year now and it still isn’t happening.

Rachel Zoe Box of Style Summer 2015 ReviewToo Faced Lip Creme in Spice Spice Baby | $22.00
I’ve never tried these lip cremes before but have heard good things about them. I was pleasantly surprised by how hydrating it was and the sheerness. It’s great for just a light wash of pink, though you can definitely build up to a more vibrant color as well. Every box contained the color Spice Spice Baby, which is a neutral dusty rose shade that works for a great range of skin tones. Very pleased with this discovery!

Rachel Zoe Box of Style Summer 2015 ReviewBristols Six Nippies Skin Nipple Covers | $26.00
I wasn’t too sure about these before I tried them on, but I wore them for a day and now I love them! It’s perfect for strapless tops or backless dresses, both of which I wear a lot of in the Summer. I’m very fortunate that the Light shade works beautifully with my skin, but I do wonder if darker skinned subscribers will be able to use them. I’m also lucky that being a B cup girl means going bra-less is feasible. For larger breasted women I imagine going bra-less might actually hurt due to the lack of support. On the bright side, Rachel Zoe did add in the booklet that these also work as heel pads or insoles.

Rachel Zoe Box of Style Summer 2015 ReviewThe silicone covers are adhesive and washable and reusable. You can store them back in the box between uses, and if properly cared for can last up to 30 uses.

Rachel Zoe Box of Style Summer 2015 ReviewO.R.G. Skincare Mineral Face Peel | $44.00
This is a completely new-to-me brand, but their ultra luxe packaging won me over the instant I saw it. I’m always interested in facial peels, especially ones that are gentle enough to use on a more regular schedule. This one is recommended for 3 to 4 times a week.

Rachel Zoe Box of Style Summer 2015 ReviewIf you’ve ever used gel exfoliators from Japan before, this peel works in a similar fashion. You apply it to your face and wait for a few seconds, then rub it into your skin in circular motions. You’ll start to see little balls of dead skin forming on your face, which you then rinse off. It’s a really satisfying way to exfoliate because you can literally see the dead skin coming off and your face feels smoother than before.

Rachel Zoe Box of Style Summer 2015 ReviewMara Hoffman Sarong | $98.00
So thrilled to get a Mara Hoffman print! This was designed exclusively for Box of Style, and is a really bright geometric print inspired by the jungle. While it’s designed to be a sarong, the styling tips include ideas like wearing it as a scarf, shawl, impromptu halter dress, or even as a beach blanket. It’s certainly large enough to be used for all of those purposes and more, and the material is very soft and lightweight.

Rachel Zoe Box of Style Summer 2015 ReviewOverall verdict? Could not be happier. I love everything I got and think it’s so on point for a Summer box. For $100, I received a $370.00 value! Color me impressed. I think this box really does deliver on what it promises: it’s literally a box of style. It includes fashion accessories that are very high quality and timeless, a styling tool (the Nippies), and some simple but good beauty items that will appeal to a wide audience. The value is definitely there and the experience is luxurious and well thought out. I can’t wait to see what Fall will bring! It’s my favorite season and I have sky high hopes 🙂
