Happy 4th of July weekend, everyone! Today I’m reviewing a new-to-me subscription called Scent Trunk. I was really excited when they reached out to me to review a box, since I really love fragrances but sadly know very little about them.
Scent Trunk is a subscription that sends you three perfume samples each month, all tailored to your “scent profile”. After you receive the samples, you can go on your profile and rate the perfumes to help hone your profile for a more accurate match the following month. As most of you know, I really love supporting small businesses and artisan products, so I was very interested in Scent Trunk when they mentioned that they specialize in fragrances that can’t be found in department stores.
The subscription costs $15.00/month. Right now they’re having a July 4th sale (for this weekend only): get 50% off your first box with the code FREEDOM50!
Disclaimer: There are no affiliate links in this post, but I did receive this box for review purposes.
Roberta Andrade Fragrances Earth: This one was a bit of a miss for me. It’s a fresh scent with grass and hay top notes. The bass is moss and patchouli. Personally I found it to have too much of a woodsy masculine scent for my preferences.
Imaginary Authors Violet Disguise: I’m on the fence about this one. When I first sprayed it on myself I was a big fan of the fruity sweet scent. After a bit of time, I started to feel like the sweetness was overpowering and I didn’t get enough of the violet notes. I will say that this really had fantastic lasting power. I could smell it even after a whole day at work, and I only used a tiny amount!
Amouage Reflection Woman: Definitely the clear favorite for me. It has more floral notes than the other two, with top notes of water violet and freesia. The scent smells very fresh and feminine without being overwhelming, and it felt like a good choice for Summer. This is another one where a little goes a long way.
On the backs of the cards there’s lots of helpful information about each scent. It even shows you whether it’s a fragrance for day or night or both! I wish they included full sized prices on all these cards too, since I can definitely imagine myself falling in love with a scent and then going online to buy it only to realize it’s miles out of my price range.
Overall I had a fun time doing the scent profile and discovering my picks. Since this is my first month, I’m fine with the fact that my options weren’t 100% spot on. I imagine as time goes on your profile gets more and more accurate. All three of my fragrances for this month had violet notes somewhere, so that was kind of a neat way to make it feel like a collection. Despite really only liking one scent, I’m pleased with the curation. I think I received 3 unique and interesting fragrances, none of which I would have known about without the subscription.
If discovering new fragrances are something you’re interested in, this is a great subscription for you. If you want to learn more about how to apply scents, how they’re made, how to choose the perfect one for you (basically if you have any questions at all), this is a perfect subscription for you. They send out emails with helpful tips and tutorials and information, so you’ll definitely learn if you want to.
They refer to themselves as “the Netflix of fragrance”, which I think is a fair assessment after trying them out. I definitely got the sense that their team is very very very dedicated to what they do and all have a serious passion for niche perfumes.
Oh, and before I forget: they also run a lot of giveaways! Check out www.scenttrunk.com/giveaway/ if this subscription looks intriguing to you.
