It’s been forever since I’ve gotten a GlossyBox, but I saw that the August one would be including a GlamGlow cleanser that I’ve been really excited to try.
GlossyBox is $21.00 a month (or less if you get a longer subscription). Each box comes with deluxe and full sized luxury beauty products ranging from skincare to makeup to haircare. Last time I checked, the coupon code BRUSHUP still worked, which gets you a free Doucce Soft Touch Kabuki Brush with your first box!
GlamGlow YouthCleanse Daily Exfoliating Cleanser | $7.80
Every August box is receiving one of these, and it’s the reason I signed up for this box. I completely adore the GlamGlow masks and have been wanting to try the cleansers for a while now. After trying it a few times, I have to say I’m impressed. You apply the mud to dry skin, then wet your fingers and gently rub in circles until the mud turns into a lather. The mud feels sort of gritty so you can feel the exfoliation process, but is still gentle enough to be used every day. I’ve gone ahead and bought a full sized one already!
Manna Kadar Lash Primer | $11.18
I currently use Tarte’s lash primer religiously and I’m not in the market for a replacement product. With that being said, this primer did a good job with lengthening and getting my mascara to apply smoothly without any clumps. Unlike a lot of other lash primers, this one goes on clear instead of white so you can use it without mascara as well. You can also apply it at night after removing your makeup to condition your eyelashes overnight, but I hate the feeling of something on my lashes when I sleep so I haven’t tried yet.
SpaRitual Nail Lacquer in I Feel the Earth Move | $12.00
Subscribers would receive one of 12 color variations for this nail polish, and I’m kind of disappointed with the one I received. This color is a deep brown burgundy color, which will be nice when Winter comes around but for now just seems really dark. The formula for this is fantastic though. It dries super duper fast, isn’t streaky, and is very easy to apply. I had a fully opaque color in 2 coats.
POP Beauty Kajal Pen in Sooty Black | $10.00
While I’m pleased that this is a full sized item, I really wouldn’t consider it a luxury brand. I do like how easily this applies and the strong pigmentation, and also found the smudger on the other end really useful. I had some issues with it staying put (definitely had some raccoon eyes going on!) so I would strongly recommend a primer and maybe also a setting spray if you’re planning on using this liner for the whole day.
Lollipops Paris Delicieuse Lip Balm | $5.50
I think it’s really cool that we got a French brand, but I’m disappointed that it’s such a low value lip balm. There were several flavor options available, but I don’t think there was any color variation since the balm/gloss I received is clear. It’s shiny like a gloss but nourishing and not sticky like a balm. It has a pretty strong vanilla scent/flavor which I enjoyed, but definitely feels like it caters to a younger demographic.
Overall, I’m left feeling pretty let down by this Glossybox. My box came out to a $46.48 value but none of it felt really luxurious or high end, with the exception of the GlamGlow cleanser. It’s pretty sad when the best part of a $21 box is a cleanser worth $7.80.
I do think Glossybox has gotten much better with timely shipping over the past year and the information cards are more substantial now with tips and tricks on them. However, I think the trade-off of lower value boxes and less high end brands wasn’t a good move on their part. I will most likely still get a box every now and then, but only if the spoiler is something I really want to try.
