When it rains, it pours! The past two weeks I had no boxes coming in and I was slowly dying of subscription box withdrawal, and suddenly within the past few days I got four boxes. Up first is my absolute favorite: the POPSUGAR Must Have box. Hopefully within the next couple of days I’ll have the other 3 out: Bespoke, Birchbox, and Barkbox. Stay tuned!
I love that for October, POPSUGAR donated money to Right Action For Women, a nonprofit that helps women with a high risk for breast cancer afford proper screening. It would be helpful to know exactly how much was donated, but even the smallest amount can make a difference. And since there was no obligation for POPSUGAR to donate anything at all, I think it was a really wonderful thing for them to do on behalf of their subscribers.
Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling | $25.00 ($15.00 on Amazon)
I adore Mindy, so when this spoiler came out I was thrilled. I was going to buy this book anyways, so getting it in a subscription box was a really awesome win for me. Bonus points for getting it in hardcover! If you like Mindy Kaling and her sense of humor, this book won’t disappoint. Even though I like her first book better, this one was still hilarious, insightful, and a really fun read.
Savvy Sleepers Luxury Satin Pillowcase | $36.00
I’ve always heard amazing things about satin pillowcases and how wonderful it is for your hair, but never actually purchased one for myself. Excited to see if it makes a big difference for me. I really like the idea of having a secret pocket to stash little goodies in, so that detail makes this pillowcase much more interesting for me. I’m also happy to see that it’s machine washable and easy to care for. However, I do think the $36 value is pretty absurd.
Richer Poorer Hope Slipper Socks | $15.00
In addition to the donation made by POPSUGAR, these socks (POPSUGAR exclusive!) are also included in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I think the slipper socks are a good choice because they’re so cozy and perfect for colder weather, and also because they’re perfect gifts for people who are undergoing cancer treatment. One of my friends is currently going through chemotherapy and LOVES these socks because they have grips at the bottom to prevent her from slipping, and are way more comfortable than actually wearing shoes while she’s in the hospital. So if you got a box this month but don’t care for the socks yourself, I would highly recommend donating them! They’re an absolute favorite in the hospital.
Easy, Tiger Brown Paper Liquor Bag Set | $8.00
These were a little confusing to me at first, because I wasn’t really sure when I would actually use them. They seem a little too casual for gifting wine, and also too big for covering up your beer for outdoor drinking. Perhaps POPSUGAR is telling me I should be drinking an entire bottle of wine next time I’m at the park?
I will say that the patterns are really cute and I’m going to try my best to find a use for them! Perhaps it’s time to arrange for an outdoor wine day with the girls…
The Honest Company Sea Salt + Sugar Body Scrub | $16.95
I subscribe to The Honest Company bundles, but this scrub isn’t one of the items available for the bundles so I’ve never had the chance to try it before. It’s got a really great vanilla lavender fragrance that isn’t overwhelming, and leaves my skin soft and moisturized. The scrub isn’t too course, but has just enough grit to really exfoliate. I’m a big fan! Good thing this container is generously sized, I think it will last me a long time. Be careful if you’re using it in the shower and you don’t have a grippy mat: this stuff makes your tub really slippery!
Belgian Boys De Stroopwafel | $1.59
Yes! Finally, an unhealthy delicious snack in my PSMH box! So good with coffee, it’s completely addictive. The texture of the waffle paired with the chewy caramel is fantastic. Each pack comes with 2 waffles but I probably could have finished a dozen easily if I had it. If you check out Belgian Boys’ website all their other products sound equally delicious. I may or may not have already purchased a huge box of sweets…
It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product | $4.50
This is listed as a special extra, and I’m glad to get it. I already use this product for my hair and really like the results. It adds shine and reduces frizz and gives my hair a really soft texture. It’s probably my favorite drugstore hair product! I’m always happy to have an extra travel sized one on hand.
Danielle Stevens Monogram Gift Card | $40.00
I don’t count this as a real gift card since it only works in the “Personalized” section of the online shop and the cheapest item I found is this bracelet for $48.00. You would still have to pay for shipping on top of that. Nothing on the site really stands out to me so I don’t think I will use this card.
Overall I think it was a satisfactory month for me but I have definitely had much better months. The value comes to $107.04, but I feel like the actual value is lower since the book can be found for cheaper and the pillowcase value seems very inflated. However, a donation was also made for breast cancer screening so that does add a little more value for me. Bottom line: I’ll use all the items and most of it was very practical for me, so I have no complaints. It just wasn’t super exciting, but that just makes me more eager to see what November has in store.
Speaking of November, we have a spoiler out:
Each box will contain a Tarte Cosmetics Beauty and the Box Eyeshadow Quad. I have so much eye shadow but I love all things Tarte and the colors look gorgeous, so I’m happy. Can’t wait to see what the other items will be! If you haven’t signed up yet, use coupon code MUSTHAVE5 to save $5 off your first box.
