POPSUGAR Must Have November 2015 Box Review

Sorry for the very delayed review, but things have been completely crazy with Thanksgiving around the corner! First time hosting the dinner (yay that means I’m officially an adult, right?) and I’m panicking a little bit…

Anyways, without further ado: November’s POPSUGAR Must Have box!

POPSUGAR Must Have November 2015 Box Review

Deepa Gurnani Katie Crystal Headband | $56.00
So pretty and festive! I’ve received Deepa Gurnani products before and the quality is excellent, but I still think the $56 price tag is a little steep. With that being said, I’m happy to have it. Fancy headbands are my go-to around this time of year. It’s perfect for dressing up a simple ponytail when I’m too lazy to do something special with my hair!

Close up shot. The craftsmanship is definitely fantastic, this is a piece that will last me a long time and I love the classic style.

Terrapin Ridge Farms Pecan Honey Mustard | $7.30
It’s unusual for POPSUGAR to send a condiment instead of a regular snack, but I’m digging it. This honey mustard is AMAZING on sandwiches and works wonderfully as a glaze for chicken. I’ll be buying more when this jar runs out.

Tarte Cosmetics Beauty & the Box Eye Shadow in Eye Candy | $22.00
This was the product that was the first spoiler, and I was super excited to get a soon-to-be-released item. This isn’t even for sale from Tarte yet! It’s always so much fun to get a brand new item, it feels so exclusive. I haven’t opened it in case I need a last minute stocking stuffer or something (does anyone else do this around this time of year?), but I hope I’ll get to use it.

Eye Candy is the color shown in the spoiler, which is the one I wanted!

Gramr Thankful Cards | $8.00
I’m a stationery junkie, so any time we receive cards or notes or any paper good, it’s a good box for me. I had never heard of Gramr before but these are really cute postcards that I think I’ll use for my coworkers.

Capri Blue Mercury Jewel Box Candle in Rain | $18.00
Definitely my favorite item in the box. This candle is so stunning and smells phenomenal. I love the gardenia scent and the double wick. The recycled wood lid and the mercury glass combination is totally rustic chic – so in right now!

POPSUGAR Must Have November 2015 Box Review

The mercury glass is so pretty and I am thrilled to have this roomy trinket box when the candle burns out. I wish more candles came in adorable containers designed for reusing!

West Emory Bingo Set | $19.99 (on clearance for $5.97)
I didn’t expect to like this bingo set, but the box is really nice and substantial. I like the simple graphic style and how it looks almost like a print! This would be really pretty on the coffee table. It’s also a simple universally loved game that will work for all ages, so I think it’s a smart inclusion for this holiday themed box. I will be sure to use it after our family dinner!

POPSUGAR Must Have November 2015 Box Review

Ink Dot Print Gift Card | $20.00
Not quite a true gift card since it doesn’t cover shipping, but there are affordable things on the website that you can get with the $20. The square prints are only $9.00 and they look adorable.

POPSUGAR Must Have November 2015 Box Review

Overall value is $151.29, which is great even for POPSUGAR. I think the curation was really on point this month. It certainly feels like a holiday party Thanksgiving inspired sort of box. While it isn’t my favorite box, I like all the items and will put everything to use. I have really high hopes for December now!

Beauty DNA November 2015 Box Review plus Sale at Gilt City!

Received my Beauty DNA shipment, and I never ceased to be amazed by the high value products I’ve been receiving!

Beauty DNA is a monthly subscription service that sends you one full sized beauty item based on your profile. When you first sign up, you fill out a pretty detailed profile on your preferences, and the experts at Beauty DNA will match you with a product that they think works best for you. For $25/month, you’ll receive an item from one of three categories: skincare, hair products, and body. Usually they alternate what category you receive between months, so you won’t end up getting a bunch of hair products consecutively.

With Christmas around the corner, I’ve been thinking about which subscriptions I want to gift. BeautyDNA is definitely very high on the list, since I’ve had such a wonderful experience with them.

I really love their personalized cards that go over why you received each item. If I dislike the item, it helps me pinpoint what to change in my profile. If I like the item, it helps me see what type of products to ask for and what ingredients to search for when shopping for more skincare.

Epicuren Pro Collagen Plus Serum Amplifier | $94.00
This month I got a serum, which is always something I could use more of. I know this brand and it always gets rave reviews, so I am very pleased. Initially I was going to use it for myself, but since I have such a long holiday list this year I think I’m going to hold off for now and see if I will need it as a last minute gift. Better safe than sorry! The retail value definitely makes this a very giftable item.

Beauty DNA November 2015 Box Review plus Sale at Gilt City!

I was thinking about not posting this blog, since I haven’t actually tried this serum yet and it seemed kind of silly to post a review without having tried the actual product. But then I figured it would be pretty useful for people just to see what I received, and it’s not always imperative for me to review the functionality of the product.

Beauty DNA November 2015 Box Review plus Sale at Gilt City!

Another reason I wanted to post this blog up is because BeautyDNA is on Gilt City again and I wanted to share the deal with all of y’all since if you’re like me, you’re going to want to stock up on gifts for friends and family. I can’t recommend it enough, and I’ve received very pricey products that have been amazing matches for my skin. The 3Lab cream I received a few months ago is still my holy grail moisturizer and I use it every day!

Gilt City is currently offering 2 month and 4 month subscriptions to BeautyDNA for $29.00 and $59.00 respectively. That’s already a 42% savings, but if you’re a new member of Gilt City, you can get an even bigger discount.

You can use the code WELCOME30 or WELCOME20 for either 30% or 20% off (last time I checked the 30 was still working but some people have reported isssues with it), or you can use my invitation link for $25.00 off your first purchase and get my eternal gratitute 🙂 Just click here! It will bring your 4 month subscription price down to $33, making each month only $8.50. Take a moment to let that sink in. Less than the cost of a Birchbox!!

Pet Treater Subscription October Box Review plus Promo Code

Last October review! I’m finally all caught up, so I can officially focus on November now. I decided to try a new pet subscription box for Maddie, just because she’s been going through all her toys and chew and I’m so curious about the new pet subscriptions that are popping up seemingly everywhere.

Pet Treater is a dog subscription box that sends out treats, toys, and various gadgets and gizmos. They don’t give a specific value for each box and the website states that “each box typically contains a yummy treat for your pup, and usually an interactive toy as well”. It costs $24.99/month, and it’s less if you sign up for a longer subscription. A whole year brings the cost of each box down to only $19.99!

This box is huge!! And so colorful and cheerful, it made me happy just to see it! The box is sturdy, well designed, and I think it would make a really fabulous gift.

Pet Treater Subscription October Box Review plus Promo Code

Your first box comes with a free bed if you use promo code PT-BED, so if you’re interested definitely try it out! There are different sizes, and you will receive the appropriate one for your dog. I think received the largest one, which is just enough for my 46 pound dog. If you have a larger dog I don’t think they have a bigger bed option, unfortunately.

Maddie on her new bed. The stuffing isn’t very substantial, so I definitely wouldn’t use it as her every day bed. It’s pretty thin and wouldn’t provide much padding on a hardwood or tile floor. With that being said, she likes the fleece material and it does well on carpet. We keep it in the living room near the couch so she has a soft spot to hang out with us when we watch TV, but at night she definitely still prefers her regular bed.

I thought it was really cute that they included a hand addressed envelope to my dog! Definitely felt very thoughtful and the welcome letter was a sweet touch.

Swiss Tech Dog Leash Light | $11.99
I had never considered getting a leash light before I saw this, but it makes so much sense. I’ve been using it on her leash ever since and it’s been very helpful. Especially with how much rain we’ve been getting here, it’s nice to be able to see where puddles are and where mud is to prevent slipping. Bonus points for coming with the batteries pre-installed. I hate getting gadgets that I have to run out and buy specialty batteries for!

It clipped onto her leash perfectly and so far it’s been really great! Very bright and simple to use, and small enough not to be obtrusive when I’m holding the leash.

Nylabone Happy Time Edible Chew | $6.99
Nylabone is a brand that we’ve purchased before, and all their products are made in the USA. The chew is made from chicken, but the first 5 ingredients are: wheat starch, rice flour, wheat gluten, glycerin, and natural flavor. Chicken is the 6th ingredient in the list. I don’t like giving my dog treats with high amounts of glycerin, so I think I’m going to pass on this chew. This product has been discontinued, so I’m guessing this is leftover products that haven’t sold yet. The expiration date on the back is 6/15/16, so it’s still okay to use.

Pet Head Canine Foot Bath | $8.99
I thought this was a really amusing product when I pulled it out of my box. The idea is funny, right? It actually is a smart thing to keep in my car for dog parks, because Maddie is always getting her paws super muddy. This does clean better than a wet cloth. I like that they also included a red microfiber cloth to dry your dogs paws afterwards. It fits nicely in a neat package and I foresee actually using it.

Pet Treater Subscription October Box Review plus Promo Code

It fits Maddie’s paws, but I doubt it would work for larger dogs. Again, she’s about 46 pounds with average sized paws. Look at her confused face trying to ask “but whyyyy??”.

Nylabone Romp N Chomp Roller Treat Toy | $15.99
Another Nylabone product. They make very durable toys, so I was happy to see this is one that can be reused. Maddie has a love for all rubber toys that can take a lot of chewing, so this is a good choice for her.

Pet Treater Subscription October Box Review plus Promo Code

The treats can be refilled with Nylabone’s refills, though it looks like not many online pet shops are selling them. Perhaps this is another discontinued item? You can still buy them on Amazon, but I haven’t found them on Petco or Petsmart or even Walmart’s online stores.

Pet Treater Subscription October Box Review plus Promo Code

Since this treat is pretty small I let her have almost half of it, despite the fact that it does have glycerin as the 4th ingredient. Once the treat part got small enough, I threw it away and she loves playing with the rubber toy. It’s easy to refill with peanut butter or pureed pumpkin (her favorite!), so she’ll definitely use this toy in the future.

Full Moon Chicken Bacon Treats | $13.99
Made with 100% human food grade ingredients with no artificial preservatives, corn, wheat, or soy. It’s also made in the USA and has a wholesome ingredients list. I’m glad to see a really big bag of treats–this is 12.5 ounces! It does expire on 4/10/2016, so if you’re like me and have a backlog of treats for your dog to try, this would have to go to the front of the line.

Petlou Colossal 14 Inch Warthog | $17.99
Omg how cute is this plush toy? I almost didn’t even want to give it to my dog because I knew she would shred it in minutes. It features a squeaker in the middle that makes an oinking sound, which is something a bit different from your regular squeakers. I think Maddie found it to be a pleasant surprise.

How completely adorable is his face??

Pet Treater Subscription October Box Review plus Promo Code

Look how gigantic this plush is! It’s larger than her head, and she had a blast tossing it around and chomping on it. It didn’t last, but that’s expected of all plush toys.

The Master of Life Neoprene Oven Mitt | $5.00 (?)
This was the little extra gift for the human, which I appreciate. It does seem like sort of an odd choice though. Maybe if it came with a cute recipe for baked dog treats it would have made more sense? Because otherwise I’m not really seeing the connection between oven mitts and dogs. I can’t find this item online, so I’m guessing on the value.

Pet Treater Subscription October Box Review plus Promo Code

Overall verdict: I spent $24.99 and received about $80.94 worth of products (plus the free pet bed!), which is an amazingly high value for a pet box. I really liked the fun gadgets like the foot bath and leash light, but I’m less impressed with the treats. With this box, I definitely feel like I have to check the expiration dates and ingredients lists to ensure that I can give the treats to my dog. With Barkbox, I never have that worry. But I also never get cool gadgets with Barkbox. I think there’s room in this household for both subscriptions, and I’m going to give Pet Treater a few more months to see how consistent the boxes are.

Beauty DNA October 2015 Box Review

Still catching up on October reviews, whew! I only have one more after this one, and then I can officially focus on November! One of my favorite new subscriptions is up for review today: Beauty DNA. I’m totally enamored with this subscription and have been thrilled with all my boxes so far. Two months ago I actually got a face cream that has since become a serious holy grail item for me, so that should tell you enough.

Usually they alternate what category you receive between months, so you won’t end up getting a bunch of similar products consecutively.

Beauty DNA October 2015 Box Review

Every month you get a personalized pamphlet printed out, which makes it feel really special and truly tailored to your needs. You can also log into your account on the website and rate the product each month and provide extra feedback. Over time as you add more information to your profile, the matches become even more pinpointed and perfect for you.

Beauty DNA October 2015 Box Review

The personalized card is always very helpful and really lets you know why you received the product that you did. And if you didn’t like what you got, it helps you see what section in your questionnaire to change. For this month I was really happy to see something lightweight that also features protection against sun damage, two of my main criteria for daytime skincare.

Beauty DNA October 2015 Box Review

Luminique Age-Defying Complex with SPF 15 | $79.95
While the price tag for this moisturizer is lower than the ones I’ve received in my previous boxes, it’s still a great deal for the $25 subscription cost! This brand is completely new to me and seems to have mixed reviews on Amazon. Most of the negative reviews are saying it doesn’t actually do anything for wrinkles, but that’s not a deal breaker for me since I don’t have any wrinkles yet–I’m just looking to prevent them for a few more years!

Beauty DNA October 2015 Box Review

One of my favorite aspects about Beauty DNA is that you receive a full sized product each month. For something like skincare, I think it’s really important to get a large amount to experiment with to see how your skin responds. If I’m going to drop over $100 on a product, I want to know if it’s going to do anything for me! Those little single-use foil packets (or even deluxe samples that only last 2-3 days) are completely useless in my opinion, because you need at least a week of usage to get a reliable read on whether or not it works for you. If you have sensitive skin like I do, you’ve probably had to return a full sized purchase before because of allergies, and it really sucks. It feels so wasteful and I hate doing it.

Beauty DNA October 2015 Box Review

Even though the cream looks thick, it absorbed quickly and felt pretty lightweight on my face. There was barely any scent, which I appreciate. I didn’t have any problems with my face feeling greasy afterwards, which is one of my pet peeves about SPF moisturizers, so I consider that a win.

Beauty DNA October 2015 Box Review

Overall verdict is great! I got a full sized $79.95 cream for $25.00, so I really can’t complain. I like that they sent me a moisturizer with SPF in it, which is something I am always on the look out for. Who knows, this could be another holy grail item? I think the valuable part about BeautyDNA (besides already getting a great value for the cost of the subscription!) is getting to discover new brands and products that you otherwise would never think to try. I’ve gotten brands that are completely new to me and I don’t think I would have ever known about them if not for this subscription. Can’t wait to see what they send me next! I think I’m overdue for a hair or body product, even though I requested very few of those in my beauty profile.
