Peaches and Petals December 2015 Box Review plus 50% Off Promo Code

Scrambling to get all my December reviews in as Christmas approaches, and next up is a new-to-me subscription: Peaches and Petals. I’ve seen some of their boxes over at My Subscription Addiction but had never subscribed, so when they reached out and offered me a box to review I jumped at the chance. These are actually the same people behind Pet Treater, a box that I recently bought a 6 month subscription to (December review coming soon…hopefully!).

Peaches and Petals is a monthly subscription service that sends out vintage-modern items and beauty goods. For $14.99 a month (includes shipping), you’ll receive a mix of jewelry, fashion accessories, lifestyle goods, and beauty samples. They feature a different theme every month, and December is “Treat Yo Self”. Love it!!

C. Booth Lavender Mineral Bath Soak | $5.83
These were pretty hard to find available anywhere online, so I think they may either be discontinued or going through a repackaging. The scent is strong, and it has a medicinal quality to it on top of the lavender. I don’t mind, but if you’re sensitive to strong scents this isn’t for you. This is a big bottle and you only need 3 capfuls for a bath, so it will last quite a long time.

Peaches and Petals December 2015 Box Review

Mine leaked a little bit, but since it was in a ziplock bag nothing else was affected. My bottle still looked full when I took it out, so it was really a tiny leak.

Spa Bella Hot or Cold Rejuvenating Eye Mask | $5.70
Definitely hits the theme of relaxation! I personally prefer cloth masks, since I find the plastic kind to have an unpleasant texture, but that’s just me. This is a pretty no-frills mask, but gets the job done. The gel texture holds the temperature pretty well and it remains flexible even when it is cold.

Kimono Style Silk Peacock Robe | $15.00
I was surprised to receive a robe in a $15 subscription box, but I’m definitely happy to have it! It’s probably more of a summer robe than a winter one, since for winter I would imagine a fluffy plush texture. The pattern is so pretty and the silky texture feels amazing on my skin. It’s a “one size fits all” sort of product, and it fit me quite well. For reference, I’m almost always a size 4 in dresses. It comes down to my knees, and I’m 5′ 5″.

Emerald Necklace and Earring Jewelry Set | $10.00 (?)
Guessing on the value for these, since I can’t find this exact set anywhere. I like the layered look of the necklace a lot and think it’s very on trend. Lately I’ve been seeing nothing but layered necklaces! The stones are actually quite pretty and the shapes are flattering when worn.

Peaches and Petals December 2015 Box Review

The earrings suffered a little damage in the mail. The posts in the back were bent, but I was able to bend them straight again. I’m pretty picky about what my earrings are made of, so I’m going to pass on these just to be safe. I have sensitive ears that go nuts with certain metals, and with the holidays this close I don’t want to risk any allergic reactions!

Peaches and Petals December 2015 Box Review

Close up of the necklace. Cute, right?? Definitely enough sparkle for a party but can easily be dressed down for an every day look. You can also easily separate the necklace into individual strands if you don’t want to wear all three at once.

Peaches and Petals December 2015 Box Review

Lindt Milk Chocolate Truffle Bar | $1.25
Chocolate is always welcome in any box! Lindt definitely reminds me of Christmas and the holidays, and I think it was a lovely addition to the box. It also adds to the whole indulgent theme.

Peaches and Petals December 2015 Box Review

I’m guessing the value to be around $37.78, which is more than double the cost of the box. For the price point, I think it’s a really fun box. I don’t know of any other lifestyle box like this with a lower cost. I got a good range of products and I am very happy with the curation. All the items definitely fit the “treat yo self” theme perfectly!

If you want an inexpensive little treat every month and you’re feeling a bit tired of Birchbox/Ipsy/other beauty subs, I think this would be a good fit. Get 50% off your first month with the code PEACHWENDY.

Also, spoiler for January ahead!

Peaches and Petals December 2015 Box Review

Each box will contain a fruit infuser water bottle. I have several of them and can vouch for how wonderful they are. If you’re like me and struggle to drink the recommended 8 cups a day, I would give infused water a try. Strawberries and citrus are my absolute favorite!

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2015 Box Review

Whew, the last POPSUGAR Must Have box of 2015! Looking back at all the boxes, I can say with confidence that it’s been a great year and I plan to continue subscribing. I’ve been a subscriber for over two years now and PSMH is still one of my favorite subscriptions. I look forward to my pink box every month!

As always, use coupon code MUSTHAVE5 to save $5 off your first box.

Luv AJ The Rose Gold Ombre Bracelet | $65.00
This is a custom piece for POPSUGAR Must Have, and features yellow gold, silver, and rose gold plating. I think this is one of the few times that I’m really not feeling a POPSUGAR jewelry item. I think the three different plating colors look strange together and the overall piece looks kind of tacky. I will say that the quality is nice and has a good weight to it, but it’s not for me.

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2015 Box Review

It looks very chunky on my wrist and I don’t think I’ll ever actually wear it, unfortunately.

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2015 Box Review

On the bright side, it comes in a nice little pouch for gifting. It would be a nice stocking stuffer for someone who likes that kind of jewelry, but just isn’t for me or any of my friends.

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2015 Box Review

Stowaway Cosmetics Creme Lipstick Trio | $30.00
Love the concept of these products. They’re designed for “the girl on the go”, and are smaller sizes than your regular lipsticks. They fit in clutches and you will probably actually be able to use the whole tube! I can’t be the only one with a million unfinished tubes of lipstick lying around.

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2015 Box Review

The colors are: Raspberry, Muted Plum, and Cranberry. I think they are perfect for the holidays and go well with my skin tone. They glide on beautifully and are creamy and highly pigmented. I wore one to a holiday party and it lasted throughout the night.

Nima Oberoi Lunares Geo Stopper | $24.00
Always happy to see a unique item in a subscription box, like this wine stopper! I don’t think I’ve ever gotten one from a box before, and it’s a great idea for this time of year. We always have so many open bottles after a holiday dinner. This silver stopper will not tarnish, and is so beautiful yet neutral enough to complement most homes.

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2015 Box Review

It also comes in its own box for gifting.

Swing Design Nova Blue Mist Jewelry Box | $36.00
This is another unexpected item, since we usually get smaller trinket dishes or whatnot in subscription boxes, not full sized leatherette jewelry boxes. It’s surprisingly well made and feels pretty sturdy.

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2015 Box Review

The interior is suede and is perfect for keeping your jewelry scratch-free. I wish there were some compartments for organization, but overall it’s a good basic jewelry box.

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2015 Box Review

Comes in an individual box for gifting! Loving that most of the items from this box can be gifted easily.

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2015 Box Review

My Cup of Cake Classic Belgian Chocolate | $5.99
Yay for indulgent food items again! If you’ve never made cake in a cup before, I highly recommend it! This mix is tasty and easy, and ready in only three minutes. Their website describes it as a cross between a hot molten lava cake and a chocolate souffle, which I think is accurate. It’s light but decadent and chocolatey.

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2015 Box Review

Meri Meri Silver Stars on White Glitter Tape | $4.00
I’m a total stationery fanatic, so tape and paper goods and things like that are perfect for me. I used this entire roll of tape right away to wrap some presents (I assure you, they were gorgeous!), and I’m kicking myself for not getting a nice picture before I gave them away.

Tiny Prints Gift Tag Stickers + 20 Promo Card | $20.00
This is listed as a “special extra”, and has no minimum purchase required. It expires 1/15/2016 so use it fast!

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2015 Box Review

It also came with little gift tag stickers, which will definitely get used up.

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2015 Box Review

Overall I think it was a good box. It’s not my favorite and it doesn’t measure up to last year’s, but the curation made sense and most of the items are really easy to gift. The value comes to $184.99 including the TinyPrints code, but the biggest ticket item (the bracelet) is one that I really don’t like and won’t even gift. It’s a mixed bag for me, but since I really like the lipstick, tape, and cake, the value is still there. Hoping for a box that is more “me” in the new year!

Beauty DNA December 2015 Box Review

One of my favorite subscription discoveries of this year is Beauty DNA, which I have had for several months now. I’m always so excited to see the box on my doorstep and my matches have been fantastic. It’s a subscription that I have already gifted for Christmas to a bunch of girlfriends and definitely see myself continuing to subscribe for a long time!

Beauty DNA is a monthly subscription service that sends you one full sized beauty item based on your profile. When you first sign up, you fill out a pretty detailed profile on your preferences, and the experts at Beauty DNA will match you with a product that they think works best for you. For $25/month, you’ll receive an item from one of three categories: skincare, hair products, and body. Usually they alternate what category you receive between months, so you won’t end up getting a bunch of hair products consecutively.

Beauty DNA December 2015 Box Review

This month I actually got 2 matches (yay!), probably because my main item is of a relatively low value. I love that they really seem to take retail value into consideration and will send bonus items when you get a cheaper product.

Beauty DNA December 2015 Box Review

Keranique Volumizing Keratin Conditioner | $30.00
I’m not someone who usually splurges on shampoo and conditioner, so I am always very happy to get expensive brands through subscription boxes. I have hair that goes down to my mid back and I go through lots of conditioner, which is why I was actually very pleased with this match! Even though the retail value is low, it’s something I plan to use all of and is a luxurious little treat. The conditioner feels great, washes out clean, and leaves my hair shiny without feeling weighed down.

Beauty DNA December 2015 Box Review

Osmosis Skincare Purify | $21.00
This is my bonus match, and I actually really like it so far. The brand is completely new to me but I see lots of great reviews and the ingredients list looks promising. I have only used it for a few days but it’s gentle, doesn’t leave residue, and my face feels less oily during the day. This could be a keeper when I run out!

Beauty DNA December 2015 Box Review

I really appreciate that even my bonus item came with the full match card. For the unaware: every month Beauty DNA sends out a personalized card explaining why you received the product(s) that you did. The bold text indicates the portions of your profile that prompted the match. It’s really useful because it gives you a good overview of what to expect, and is also helpful if you want to prevent future matches for items you don’t want. For example, if I had hated the cleanser, I would go back in my profile and remove the “gel formulation” part of my profile.

Beauty DNA December 2015 Box Review

Overall it was another great month for me. I got two products, totaling $51.00 retail value. I plan to finish both and they seem to be good matches for me. I love getting to try full sized products from brands I have never heard of, and receiving products that I normally would never pay full price for. Can’t wait to see what Beauty DNA has is store for me in the upcoming year — it’s been a great 2015!

Rachel Zoe Box of Style Winter 2015 Review Plus $10 Off Code!

Yay for December! I have lots of packages full of goodies (though admittedly the contents aren’t for me) arriving on a daily basis, and one of the most anticipated ones is the Rachel Zoe Box of Style Winter box. It feels like forever since the last box and I was itching for my fashion fix!

The Box of Style is pretty much exactly what it sounds like: a box filled with fashion, beauty, and lifestyle items curated by Rachel Zoe! It’s a quarterly subscription, so it ships in March (Spring), July (Summer), September (Fall), and December (Winter). Every box promises $300+ value for only $100, or you can sign up for a whole year for $350.

IMG_0664

As always, the packaging is gorgeous. This is definitely a box that you can gift without doing anything to. The black box ships inside a brown cardboard shipping container, so the black box remains pristine and free of any shipping labels. Sidenote: Rachel Zoe puns are always welcome in my home.

IMG_0665

The little booklet is always something I actually read through from cover to cover, since I’ve found it to be full of interesting tips and ideas. It definitely gives the sense that Rachel Zoe actually curated the box and she adds a lot of little notes about why each item is included and how to use it for the season.

IMG_0666

Each item is always wrapped individually, which makes the opening process particularly fun. Who doesn’t love unwrapping little presents?

IMG_0667

Alexis Bittar Gold Tone Swarovski Crystal Adjustable Ring | $198.00
First item is the hero item that was released a long time ago. For the unaware: Rachel Zoe Box of Style always releases the hero item (the most expensive item) as a spoiler ahead of time. Personally, I think this is how they keep their customers really happy. If you don’t like the highest value item, you can cancel your subscription to skip the box and resubscribe for the next one. It becomes less of a gamble, and since it’s a pricier box at $100 I think the peace of mind a spoiler offers is really important. And it doesn’t take away from the whole surprise aspect, since there’s always 4 or 5 more items that are still a surprise!

IMG_0668

I always like to reserve judgement for statement jewelry until I have it in my hands, and I’m so glad I did. Even though I had seen pictures of the ring, I wasn’t quite sure if I really liked it and was definitely more interested in what the other items in the box were. But now that I have it, I am very impressed. The quality is fantastic and it looks absolutely beautiful in person. I will say that it’s very sturdy, so it might be best to get it adjusted/resized by a jeweler.

IMG_0669

Once I put it on, I loved it!! I always lean towards dainty jewelry and almost never buy statement pieces like this, which is why I love getting them in subscription boxes! It pushes me out of my comfort zone and I end up with new styles that I love. The stacked look is so pretty and I am pumped to rock this for all my holiday parties this year.

IMG_0670

Honest Beauty Makeup Remover Wipes | $10.00
I’ve used Honest’s 3-in-1 Facial Wipes before, which is what I was expecting when I first read about the spoilers. But I’m happy to try something from Honest Beauty, their new makeup line. I honestly don’t really feel much of a difference between these and the regular facial wipes, so I don’t think I would pay for the $3 extra to get these in the future.

IMG_0672

Honest Beauty Lip Crayon in Mulberry Kiss | $18.00
The rich burgundy color is perfect for winter, and I like that I can layer to get a really pigmented color or just do a quick wash for a stain look. It feels pretty similar to Clinique Chubby Sticks. Again, for the price tag I don’t know if I would repurchase again.

Lelet New York Swarovski Crystal Hair Pin | $98.00
If you remember the ear climbers from the fall box, this hair pin looks like it would match very well! The daintiness of this pin is perfect for me and I don’t own any fancy hair pins at all, so this is something new for me. It definitely feels luxe and is a great subtle way to add a little sparkle to your look. Now I just need to find some cute hairstyles that can highlight the pin!

Our Heiday Navy Leopard Note Card Set | $20.00
I’m a complete sucker for stationery of all kinds, and this is no exception. I like the versatility of these simple pattern cards and think they’re really cute. They even come with gold envelopes–love! I have never heard of Our Heiday before but now I want several of their prints! As if I needed more reasons to shop…

Marula Oil Rare Oil Intensive Mask and Complementary Rare Oil Treatment | $45.00
I didn’t open this box because I wasn’t sure about whether or not I would be gifting it. I have a bunch of hair masks and oils waiting to be used up thanks to my subscription boxes, so I’m thinking since this is such a luxe package, I might have to gift it. I just can’t justify keeping it with the holidays right around the corner.

Ciate Paint Pot in Celestial | $15.00
It looks like subscribers received variations in color for the nail polish, and I’m happy with my color. It’s very appropriate for winter and I love all glittery polish! I can’t find the Celestial shade online, so I’m thinking maybe it was from a previous collection that they no longer carry? The closest shade I could find is Confetti.

Close up shot of the glitter. I don’t own very many Ciate products since they’re pretty pricey, but I like the formula and it stays for a long time without chipping on my nails.

Foot Petals Tip Toes | $7.00
Since Rachel Zoe is a stylist, she has been including one styling tool in each box. Even though it’s always a very practical and low value item, it’s actually one that I really look forward to. It’s great to learn about these little things that stylists use and recommend, and it’s almost always something I never would have though to buy for myself. While foot petals are terribly exciting, I am looking forward to trying them and can’t wait for more styling tools to come my way!

Rachel Zoe Box of Style Winter 2015 Review Plus $10 Off Code!

Overall, I thought it was a solid box. It isn’t my favorite, but I like the range of items and thought the ring and hair pin were both stunning. I absolutely feel like I got my money’s worth, seeing as how the box has a value of $411.00! The curation makes sense and the items feel cohesive to me. I think Rachel Zoe has been absolutely killing it with this box! Seriously can’t wait to see what the hero item spoiler will be for spring 🙂

And don’t forget: if you’re signing up for the Winter box, get $10 off when you’re invited by an existing member! Just use this link and you’ll automatically be prompted to enter your email for the $10 off!

Flicker & Flame December 2015 Subscription Box Review plus $10 Off Coupon!

I received a Flicker & Flame candle subscription to review back in August, and I absolutely loved it. I remember really wanting to try one of their fall or winter scents, so I was thrilled when I was offered a December box to review again!

Flicker & Flame is a subscription service that sends out a limited edition, custom blended soy candle every month. For $25.00/month, you receive a 10 oz candle with a burn time of approximately 40 hours, shipping included. Added bonus: for every annual subscription, this company donates a solar lamp to a village in Africa through SolarAid!

If you’re interested in trying, use code SmellGreat to get $10 off your first box! For $15, it makes an amazingly great deal for yourself or as a gift.

Flicker & Flame December 2015 Subscription Box Review plus $10 Off Coupon!

They’ve changed their packaging since the last time I reviewed, and I’m digging the new gift packaging! If you’re looking for an impressive ready-to-gift idea, this is it! The outer box protects the black candle box to keep it pristine, and it comes all done up with ribbon. I imagine it would make for a perfect last minute gift that definitely doesn’t look last minute at all.

Flicker & Flame December 2015 Subscription Box Review plus $10 Off Coupon!

Look how pretty! No wrapping paper needed. You even get extra blank tags to use in case you don’t have any on hand.

Flicker & Flame December 2015 Subscription Box Review plus $10 Off Coupon!

The December scent is Holiday Cookies, which has a butterscotch base, vanilla and raisin, and a cinnamon top note. And here’s the “customized” part about this subscription: when you first sign up, you’ll be prompted to fill out a 30 second scent profile. It keeps track of your fragrance likes and dislikes, and your future candles are tailored to fit your preferences. For December, if your profile stated that you don’t like spicy or musky candles, the clove scent was dialed back. For people who prefer florals, orange blossom was added to make the scent lighter. There were some other tweaks as well, all in the name of getting the candle just right for each individual subscriber.

A look at the actual candle. It fits the box perfectly and the modern black container would look great in any household.

Flicker & Flame December 2015 Subscription Box Review plus $10 Off Coupon!

There are vinyl decals on the candle, but if you dislike them or want to reuse your container for something else, you can peel it off easily. It doesn’t even leave glue residue! If you’re a crafter/hoarder like me who can’t bear to throw away a perfectly good vessel, this is relevant information…

Flicker & Flame December 2015 Subscription Box Review plus $10 Off Coupon!

Since the idea behind a subscription like this is to always have a scented candle that fits the season in your home, this candle is supposed to last a whole month. I have to say from experience that they definitely do. My last one actually lasted more than a month because it was so heavily perfumed (you only need to burn it for a short amount of time to fill the room!).

Flicker & Flame December 2015 Subscription Box Review plus $10 Off Coupon!

My verdict is pretty much the same as last time: if you enjoy having different seasonal scents in your home and love discovering new fragrances, this is perfect for you. I think with their new custom profiles, it’s less of a risk than before. Even if the theme of the month doesn’t appeal to you, the actual scent is tailored to your preferences.

And if you’re accustomed to buying hand made soy candles, you know that the price tag is standard. Just for frame of reference, my two favorite candle brands are Voluspa ($18 for 6.2 ounces), and Nest ($38 for 8 ounces). With Flicker & Flame you’re getting a 10 ounce for $25, shipped to your door. You’re also supporting a small business and buying hand made, which is always a bonus. AND if you use the $10 off code SmellGreat for your first month, you get the first candle for only $15.

If you’re looking for a candle holiday gift but don’t want to commit to a subscription, or if you missed out from a previous month, Flicker & Flame is selling a Seasonal Sampler Pack of 4 candles (one for each season) for $45. Each candle is 7 ounces and comes in a frosted glass container. Hostess gift, anyone? (hint hint to my guests…)
