It’s been a pretty busy couple of weeks over here since I have been packing and getting ready to move by the end of the month. One downside to subscription boxes? When you move you have to remember to change so many addresses! Hopefully I’ve gotten them all, but I guess we’ll see when next month rolls around if I’ve forgotten anything. Anyways, up for review today is my Peaches and Petals June box.
Peaches and Petals is a monthly subscription service that sends out vintage-modern items and beauty goods. For $19.99 a month (includes shipping), you’ll receive a mix of jewelry, fashion accessories, lifestyle goods, and beauty samples. Get 50% off your first box (bringing the price down to just $10!) with promo code PEACH-SAVE50. If that doesn’t work, you can try PEACH-SAVE25 and PEACH-SAVE10 for 25% off and 10% off, respectively. Each code can only be used a set number of times, so if the 50% off isn’t working for you try the other two. Right now they’re no longer selling this June box, so your first month will be July.
They also have a gift with purchase promo code going on: use PEACHHAMMOCK to get a free parachute hammock in your first box! Expires July 15th.
Now onto the review.
Each month has a theme, and June’s is Under the Boardwalk. I’ve found Peaches and Petals to have interesting themes each month that are well curated. The items usually correspond really well with the theme and I’ve gotten some items from this box that I rarely see in subscription boxes–like a coloring book and ceramic tasting spoons!
Yonala Summer Swimsuit Cover Up | $8.89
Really love this item! On the left is the picture pulled from the Amazon site, and on the right is a close up of the pattern and fabric. This seems to be the summer of cover ups! POPSUGAR, Rachel Zoe, and even the POPSUGAR Limited Edition CFDA box all had cover ups in them. The good news is that none of them are alike, so if you subscribed to all 4 boxes you still have 4 totally different looks. I love the pattern of this one and the easy styling options. It’s thin and easy to pack, and doesn’t wrinkle easily. Perfect for tossing into a beach bag and not worrying about it. I’ll never understand expensive dry clean only silk cover ups. I would be so nervous to bring that to the beach with me!
Jaclyn Smith Sunglasses | $12.99 (on sale for $9.74)
I was surprised to see sunglasses, since we already got the cover up as a fashion accessory this month. But it’s a pleasant surprise, seeing as how I can always use cheap pairs in my car and in my beach bag. I’ve gotten my car broken into once and lost my favorite pair of designer sunglasses that way. So now I never leave my nice sunglasses in the car. But as a result of that, sometimes I forget to bring a pair with me and as I’m driving with the sun in my eyes I’m kicking myself. I try to keep cheap pairs in the glove box so if I always have a back up. This will be perfect for that.
Subscribers received different styles, and I’m happy with the one I got. I don’t really like the detailing on the side, but the frame fits my face shape nicely and my nose can actually hold the glasses up. Any other Asian ladies out there with super flat noses know what I’m talking about.
On Island Time Beach Tumbler Mug | $6.00 (?)
I’ve seen several variations of these plastic tumblers that subscribers received, but I’m pleased with mine. I like that it has a handle, unlike some of the other designs I saw. I’m guesstimating on price based on similar products that I have seen at Target. This actually kind of looks like a design you would see from Target, right? I mean that as a compliment too, since Target is my happy place.
Starfish Project Francina Earrings | $17.99
At first I was sort of disappointed in the earrings that I got, since they aren’t my style at all. But then I read the back of the card and learned more about what Starfish Project is, and I’m glad to have had the chance to support them through Peaches and Petals. They’re a nonprofit that provides employment and support to women who have suffered through human trafficking. They provide housing, counseling, health care, training, and careers. Knowing all this, I will be gifting this pair and purchasing a new pair from their website for myself.
On the back of the card is a personal story about one woman who was helped through the Starfish Project. It’s such a great cause and I really support the work that they are doing. Plus they have some super cute styles! I wish that we had received a more “beachy” style though. Going through their online catalogue, they have lots of summer looks that would have fit the theme of this box more.
Alterna Stylist Ocean Waves Hair Spray | $5.00 (?)
More sea salt spray! Subscription boxes are really piling this on this season! I have so many different ones to try now. This seems to be the older packaging and is also a travel size or deluxe sample size. I know the Alterna brand and I’ve had some of their products in the past, so I’m pleased to try the spray from them. I’m also happy that this is a small product and not the full 4 oz version. I would never be able to finish it if it were any larger!
Floating Circus Bag Tags | $10.95
This is the “beachy surprise” that varies from subscriber to subscriber. Some other people got a little makeup bag. These are definitely different and unlike anything I’ve gotten from a subscription box before, though I’m not sure if they’re for me. I prefer plastic or leather luggage tags that are more plain. These tags feel sturdy and hefty, though I feel like they wouldn’t hold up well if they got bumped around. The choice of using wood feels odd because it could easily break. The size is also so large and bulky that I think it would really get in the way.
Overall it was a solid box. Not my favorite, but not bad either. I think it would have been great if the earrings were a different style, but I do appreciate discovering Starfish Project and think that it was great for Peaches and Petals to partner with them. Hoping to see more of their stuff in future boxes, or similar nonprofits!
The value is sort of hard to estimate since a lot of the prices were guesses, but I think it’s around $61.82 for this box. Officially the highest I’ve seen yet! Over triple the cost of the box. I think the mix of lifestyle/home goods with fashion makes this a unique box. They seem to take more risks in sending out some more interesting items. Like I said earlier, I’ve gotten things from this subscription that I have not seen in any other boxes. The themes are also really fun and less generic than some of the bigger subscription companies out there (looking at you, POPSUGAR!).
Next month the theme will be “Dance to the Music”. Each box will receive a Boombotix Boombot Mini bluetooth portable speaker! Wonder what else will be included? I’m thinking maybe a music festival/boho sort of fashion piece, or maybe those gold temporary tattoos that are really popular.
