Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box May 2017 Review

Wow, this review is late–even by my procrastinating standards! I genuinely thought this box was the June shipment (since I received it earlier this month) so I was holding off on posting this review until mid-month. But imagine my horror when I saw a shipping notice in my email that said my June box was on the way! I went to look at my last review and lo and behold, it was for April. So….yeah. Sorry about that everyone!

Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box is a monthly jewelry club that represents independent, up-and-coming French jewelry designers. In addition to their monthly shipments, you can also purchase jewelry from their online boutique.

Every month they feature a designer and send a surprise piece of jewelry, though you can choose if you prefer gold or silver and whether or not you have pierced ears. If you do the month to month plan, it’s $35/month. If you prepay, the price goes down to $33/month for a 3 month subscription, $31/month for a 6 month subscription, and $29/month for a 12 month subscription. The unique piece of jewelry is always valued between $50 and $200, so you’re getting a significant discount no matter what option you choose.

Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box May 2017 Review

I always mention this in every review for Emma & Chloe: the packaging is lovely! This black box comes in a padded bubble mailer, so the box is always in pristine condition. And the box is really sturdy and super cute! The interior pattern is adorable and I love to reuse these boxes for storage or for wrapping gifts.

IMG_1214 (1)

Each month comes with a little mini magazine and also a postcard. I love the beautifully shot photos and thoughtful content. There’s always an interview with the featured designer plus lots of other little articles that are fun to read.

IMG_1215

If you’re a lover of France (and seriously, who isn’t?) you will really enjoy the articles! There’s always at least one article that makes me ready to jet off to Paris. Luckily this month it’s all about Parisian picnics and how you can create your own without having to fly across the pond. I love all the suggestions! This magazine is packed with styling tips, new trends, and even has a fun quiz at the end every month.

4 Crosses Elsa Earrings | $69.00
The featured piece this month is a beautiful dainty set of earrings from 4 Crosses. Since my preference is gold, I received these in gold but it also came in silver. I love that Emma and Chloe was able to accommodate those who do not have pierced ears! Subscribers who do not have pierced ears were able to get this exact pair as clip ons! I love that, since most subscription companies will just send out an alternative piece like a necklace or bracelet.

IMG_1217

Every month comes with a certificate of authenticity and simple care instructions.

IMG_1218

A close up of the earrings! I am a big fan of dainty jewelry in general, and long earrings are my jam! They make my neck look really long and they’re statement pieces without being too heavy or large. The warm coral color of the bead is also perfect for my skin tone–coral is my favorite shade for lips and cheeks!

IMG_1219

Okay, now here’s the cool part: you can transform these earrings by folding the earring in half so the bead is at the bottom. The post goes through one of the gold links in the chain and suddenly you have earrings that are half the length and more full. I love it! So much fun and versatile.

IMG_1220

These earrings look so beautiful when they move! The little gold leaf shapes reflect light and create a lovely draped effect. I always get compliments on my Emma and Chloe pieces, and this was no exception. I wore it to a fancy dinner last week and several people commented on how delicate and pretty my earrings were!

IMG_1225 (1)

I’m very happy with the jewelry from this month! Although I haven’t had a month that I dislike yet. For the record, this is my 4th month. I think if you’re someone like me who adores dainty jewelry and loves all things French, this is perfect for you. The value is great, the quality of the pieces is awesome, the packaging is beautiful, and you get to discover new designers!

I look at my jewelry collection now and think the curation from Emma and Chloe is so on point. The pieces all look cohesive together and they send you a little of everything. So far I’ve received a ring, a necklace, a bracelet, and now earrings. It’s really smart that they alternate so much! I can’t wait to see what next month will bring, and hopefully I will be better at keeping track of what boxes are meant for which month in the future!

Peaches and Petals May 2017 Review

Like I’ve mentioned in my previous Peaches and Petals reviews, it seems that this subscription has been sending out their boxes at the tail end of the month. I actually thought this was June’s box when I received it, since they don’t put information cards in the boxes anymore. I’m glad I have this blog to help me keep track!

Peaches and Petals is a monthly subscription service that sends out vintage-modern items and beauty goods. For $19.99 a month (includes shipping), you’ll receive a mix of jewelry, fashion accessories, lifestyle goods, and beauty samples. Usually each month has a theme for the box, and the theme for May is “Vacation, All I Ever Wanted”.

Peaches and Petals May 2017 Review

World’s Best Spungee Neck Support Travel Pillow | $11.45
I appreciate getting a travel pillow in a box, since I have never received one from a subscription box before. But on the other hand, this is a pretty bad travel pillow. This seems to be an old model since it does not come with any way to keep the pillow together at the front. It’s almost impossible to keep it on your shoulders as you sleep, since the pillow has no way of keeping the U structure. If you’re a seasoned traveler, you know that having a snap or toggle at the front is essential!

IMG_1159

Gud by Burt’s Bees Cleaning Wipes | $4.99
These are discontinued products and the pear one (the green packaging on the right in the picture) definitely shows it. The entire package is leaking a light brown liquid that is sticky. The red one is pretty dry for a cleansing wipe, and I don’t know if it’s because it’s been sitting on a shelf for a long time or if these wipes are just designed like that. I don’t know how old these are but I won’t I’ll be using them. I’m disappointed because cleansing wipes are so cheap already. I buy them for 50 cents from Target when I’m going on a trip! Peaches and Petals could have easily bought current wipes to send that aren’t leaking or dried out!

IMG_1161

Soapbox Hope-To-Go Travel Kit | $7.99
I’m pleased to see a very useful kit that also supports a great cause! This travel kit contains TSA approved containers of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and body lotion. For each kit sold, a month of clean water will be given to a person in need through an organization called Splash.

IMG_1162

The products themselves are all quite nice as well. I especially like that these containers are easy to clean and refill, and the bag it all comes in meets TSA requirements too!

IMG_1163

Sara Beth Candle in Seaside | $12.00 (?)
This appears to be a brand that is often used for fundraising. I remember back in middle school we had these sorts of fundraisers every year! It seems kind of odd that it’s now included in a subscription box. And does anyone else think candles are a poor choice for these sorts of fundraising events? I remember we had to hand deliver the products to each person who purchased–candles would have been so heavy!

IMG_1164 (1)

Anyways, enough about my speculation about the fundraising. This candle has a really refreshing crisp scent and I love the wooden wick! Wooden wicks are always so much fun to burn and I rarely purchase them for myself, so I’m very happy to see this in my box! The candle came in giftable packaging as well, which I appreciate.

IMG_1165

Umbra Magnetic Board | $8.00 (?)
Last but not least, this super cute magnetic board! This is hands down my favorite item from the box! I love the Umbra brand, and I hope we see more of their products in future Peaches and Petals boxes. They make such stylish but affordable home goods!

IMG_1166

The board comes with 6 magnets and is approximately 15.5″ x 15″ in size. It’s very light and easy to hang on a wall. I love the simple design and empowering phrase!

IMG_1167

It was sort of mixed bag (or should I say a mixed box?) for me, but overall I would consider it a box that I liked. The Umbra board is so cute and I love it a lot, and the candle and travel kit are both useful and fun. The cleaning wipes were a total dud, but since they take up the least amount of value I’m not too upset. The travel pillow had potential to be amazing as well but the design was just awful. But I do think this is a huge step up from the past few boxes! I really hope this is an upward trend that will continue. I’m actually very excited to see what next month will bring!

The Honest Company Baby Essentials Bundle Review plus Promo Code

I haven’t reviewed a bundle from The Honest Company in a very long time! We consistently subscribe but we tend to stick to our favorites and it would be rather tedious to keep reviewing the exact same products every couple of months. But one of my very good friends recently had a baby and I decided to mail her a little care package–and of course I just had to include some Honest products! She called me raving about her favorite items so I thought it would be nice to do a new review of the baby products that I sent her. (By the way, the subscription model is amazing for new moms! She’s thrilled she can have all her cleaning products mailed to her so she doesn’t have to make a trip to the store and lug all the heavy stuff back!)

The Honest Company delivers family necessities directly to your door, and you can choose between three different plans: Diapers & Wipes Bundle (exactly as it sounds, it’s diapers and baby wipes), Essentials Bundle (cleaning supplies and body products), and a Health & Wellness Bundle (vitamins). All their products are eco-friendly without harsh chemicals, and almost their entire collection are vegan! I subscribe to the Essentials Bundle, which costs $35.95 per box. It comes out to $7.19 per item! It’s completely customizable (you log in and select the products you want in your bundle), and you can choose when you want the box delivered. With each box, you can also order 3 additional items with a 25% discount. Overall, I find it to be a really good deal. If you’re interested in getting started, use promo code INVITED10 for $10 off your first bundle.

The Honest Company Baby Essentials Bundle Review plus Promo Code

Organic Belly Balm | $15.95
My friend swears that this stuff does work! She was very worried about stretch marks so she was using this at least once a day. The balm softens and melts when you apply it, so it goes on very smooth and the jar lasts a long time. One thing she really appreciated about this balm is that it’s unscented. She said she went through periods when she would feel nauseous from almost any scent, so it was really important for her to have an unscented balm to use.

The Honest Company Baby Essentials Bundle Review plus Promo Code

Organic Nipple Balm | $13.95
I have never had kids before so I didn’t even know nipple balm was a thing until I saw it as one of my bundle options, but apparently it’s very important! She said this was a total lifesaver when she was nursing and her nipples were very sore and inflamed. The best part about this balm is that it’s made with USDA certified organic ingredients and made with all food grade ingredients, so you don’t have to wipe it off before nursing. Even though it’s a small container, it lasts a very long time. The small size is really convenient for tucking into a diaper bag or bringing it anywhere on the go.

The Honest Company Baby Essentials Bundle Review plus Promo Code

Soothing Baby Bottom Wash | $9.95
My friend is very eco-conscious so she chooses not to use disposable baby wipes. I got her this bottom wash and also several soft cloth wipes that can be thrown into the washing machine. This bottom wash contains organic aloe to sooth skin and also has botanical extracts to clean. It’s all natural, hypoallergenic, is made without sulfates, phthalates, parabens, fragrances, and dyes.

The Honest Company Baby Essentials Bundle Review plus Promo Code

Diaper Rash Cream | $9.95
This is the only product I sent that she felt was unnecessary. Which is kind of funny, since I thought this would be the most useful item! It turns out that it’s pretty similar to the healing balm, but the healing balm actually works even better for diaper rash! She likes the slimmer packaging of this cream, so she said she keeps this one in her diaper bag and the healing balm at home.

The Honest Company Baby Essentials Bundle Review plus Promo Code

Organic Healing Balm | $12.95
This isn’t specific to baby, since I keep several tubes of it in my own household. But it’s my favorite product that Honest makes and I think everyone should try it. I sent it to my friend and it’s actually her favorite product too! She said it’s a miracle worker for diaper rash! She’s started using it for herself and her husband as well–it’s perfect for cuts, scrapes, blisters, etc. I’ve even used it as a substitute for lip balm before and had great results.

The Honest Company Baby Essentials Bundle Review plus Promo Code

The total value of my bundles comes to $62.75. I’m very happy with the value, since it’s about 40% off the sticker price for all the items! And my friend really enjoyed all her goodies. I now have a list of things to buy for future baby showers!

I say this with every review that I do for Honest: the essentials bundle is always a good deal if you’re willing to do the math and if you want some of the pricier items. If you only want 5 items that are on the cheaper side (wipes, dryer cloths, soap, etc.), you’re better off buying them individually. If you’re getting the expensive items like the healing balm and belly balm, adding it to a bundle is the way to go. I like to make all 5 of my bundle items the more expensive stuff, since I only pay $35.95 for the bundle. Then I add the cheaper items as my add-ons because I get 25% off. Again, if you want to check out Honest and get your first bundle, use promo code INVITED10 for $10 off!

The Naked Dog Box Subscription Review plus $10 Off!

Hope everyone had a good Memorial Day weekend! We had a blast enjoying the outdoors, and Maddie got tons of great exercise! Recently The Naked Dog Box reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in doing a review of their subscription. After looking up their website I was very impressed with all their great reviews and high quality ingredients, and Maddie never turns down a chance for more food.

The Naked Dog Box is an all natural, gluten free dog food subscription box that is delivered to the consumer’s door every two weeks with fresh, made in the USA dry dog food. Every shipment comes with a surprise treat every time, and the first shipment comes with a stainless steel food scoop.

The Naked Dog Box Subscription Review

What I like about their service is that it’s super easy to use and feels highly customized for your dog. You answer a series of questions about your dog such as size, amount of exercise, age, etc. and then the site recommends a dog food formula. For Maddie (46 lbs, moderate exercise, 4 years old), it recommended the Salmon and Chickpea dry food formula with 6 ounce portions. If your dog is smaller, they offer 4 ounce portions and if your dog is larger they have 8 ounce portions. For Maddie, the cost comes to $27.00/shipment which is 2 weeks worth of food. It sounds like it’s on the pricier side as far as dog food goes, but if you actually look at the cost of good quality dog food it’s very reasonable! Her current dog food (Orijen Original Grain-Free Dry) is $78.99 for a 25 lb bag (about 400 ounces). It lasts her about a month and a half. With this subscription, a month and a half would cost $81.00 plus she gets treats with each shipment!

They currently have a promo code out that saves you $10 off your first shipment. I think it’s a great deal to try the food out and see if your pet likes it. Plus you get the free stainless steel food scoop and a high quality treat too! Get $10 off your first shipment with promo code 10BUCKS!

IMG_1087

Okay, now onto the actual review! Maddie knew this box was for her as soon as we brought it inside, so she was “helping me” go through everything.

IMG_1088

Unluckily for her, there was a cute little craft on the back on the information card that I decided to make.

IMG_1089

It has cut-outs to make a paper bow that can be attached to the collar! How cute!

IMG_1090

Since she wasn’t willing to sit up for a collar picture, she ended up with the bow on her head. This is Maddie giving me her best “but why, mom?” look. She did earn some delicious treats for her troubles though!

IMG_1117

Sojos Peanut Butter & Jelly Flavor Dog Treats | $8.35
These treats took her mind off the bow completely! I was really surprised by how big of a box these are. I guess I was expecting a single chew or a small treat, but this is a full sized box. Very impressed with the value! I love the short ingredients list: oat flour, rolled oats, peanut butter, strawberries, eggs, canola oil. The treats are made here in the USA and are wheat free and corn free. Each treat is pretty small so they’re excellent for training or for putting into a puzzle. Maddie had a lot of fun with these in her Kong toy, since the bone shape of these treats makes them harder to fall out.

IMG_1093

6 ounce Stainless Steel Food Scoop | $2.00 (?)
Like I mentioned earlier, the first shipment comes with a stainless steel food scoop in the size recommended for your dog. While this is a free item, I definitely put value on getting a high quality item like this that can be used over and over again. I wish all dog food came with a properly sized scoop like this! It really takes the guesswork out of figuring out exactly how much to feed, and also the handle is long enough to keep your hands clean when you’re scooping.

IMG_1094

The Naked Dog Salmon and Chickpea Dry Food | $27.00
The food itself comes in a plain brown bag with a simple label on it. All the feeding instructions (super simple, thanks to the awesome scoop!) and list of ingredients come on a separate card.

IMG_1095

One of the big advantages to having your food delivered direct from the source is that you can reach out to customer service and get a real person at any time. I like that on the bottom of the card it provides you with a contact email: sandy@thenakeddogbox.com! Dog food is totally confusing (I remember when I first got Maddie and I spent so much time researching online about dog nutrition and how to read labels!) and I value having someone to answer any questions or concerns that may pop up.

IMG_1091

On the back of the card you can find the nutrition analysis. I’m happy to see that the website matched Maddie with the best formula choice! The Salmon and Chickpea recipe has the highest protein content with more omega fatty acids than the others. It’s exactly what our vet has always recommended for Maddie, because she has such a lean and muscular build. You probably can’t tell from the pictures, but this dog is basically 46 lbs of muscle!

IMG_1092

Here’s a sense of the size of the food compared to a penny. All the dog food from The Naked Dog is single protein, which is good for dogs with allergies or sensitive stomachs. All their food is made in the USA and grain-free, gluten-free, corn-free, soy-free, and potato-free! Maddie really enjoyed eating this food, though she’s not a picky eater at all. She had no trouble at all transitioning to this food. Good appetite, great energy, no upset stomach or loose stools.

IMG_1097

Maddie had a great time helping with the review of this subscription! The one thing I would add is that I wish the first shipment came with instructions on how to transition your dog from their existing food to a new recipe. We have always done it gradually over a course of a week just to make sure it’s not a very sudden change to her diet, which can cause her to have an upset stomach. We mix the new food in with her old food slowly over time, adding more of the new food each day. It has always worked well for us and Maddie never has any problems switching foods this way!

IMG_8409

No review of a dog box is complete without silly pictures of Maddie, so I just had to add these in.

IMG_8410

Overall it was a great subscription service to discover! I think the value is definitely there, and if you’re even remotely interested, the $10 off promo code is a must-try! Use code 10BUCKS for your first shipment. They also have a satisfaction guarantee, so if your dog doesn’t love the food they’ll refund the cost of your box. The cancellation process is really easy as well–you can pause or edit your subscription online at any time. So basically it’s risk free and you get super high quality dog food at a reasonable price. What’s not to love about that? Let me know if you are a current subscriber or are planning to subscribe! I would love to hear your thoughts!

Harrison Blake Apparel Subscription May 2017 Box Review plus Promo Code!

Happy Friday, everyone! Memorial Day weekend is always so much fun here because in Houston it’s the best weather and we definitely make the most of it! Tomorrow morning the whole family is going blueberry picking and then we’re going to have a beach picnic in Galveston. I would love to hear what your family has planned! Up for review today is the May shipment of Harrison Blake.

The Harrison Blake Monthly Subscription is a $25.00 per month subscription (shipping included) that focuses on men’s fashion accessories. Each box is curated around a particular look and color scheme, and includes 1 necktie and 4 additional accessories. Since all the items are meant coordinate together for a cohesive outfit, it’s an easy cheat for the guy who wants to be stylish without having to think too hard about his outfit. All the items are exclusive, so if you like a particular item you would have to subscribe to receive it.

Right now they have a promo code for new subscribers. Use code SEASON to get $15 off your first month! That brings the cost down to only $10, which is a really good deal for everything that you get!

IMG_1060

Since they make all their own products, they send a little information card with the retail values. I personally think their values are usually rather high for the quality, so please take them with a grain of salt.

IMG_1061

Harrison Blake Anchor Necktie | $30.00
Every month the “hero item” is a necktie. If you wear ties a lot, this is an awesome subscription that will get you a large collection of different styles and colors in no time! My husband wears ties every day at work, but he’s limited to only super conservative colors and styles. But this tie would be perfect for special events when he’s able to branch out and wear more colors.

IMG_1064

I think the maroon and anchor pattern is a lovely choice for summer! I can see this pairing with a navy suit for a summer wedding or for a nice date night. I like that Harrison Blake ties are usually on the slimmer side, which makes them feel more modern and trendy. My husband has a skinny build so slim ties look great on him.

IMG_1065

The back of the tie always comes with this branded tag, but we’ve found it really easy to remove. My husband dislikes having two loops on the back and also dislikes how large the Harrison Blake tag is, so we just cut the stitches that hold the tag in place. It’s very easy to do and doesn’t do any damage to the tie whatsoever–it’s almost as if they anticipate most people to do it!

IMG_1066

Harrison Blake Plaid Cotton Pocket Square | $20.00
Each month also comes with a pocket square that is meant to pair with the tie. I like that this month the pocket square is a thicker cotton that feels very substantial. It does feel more like a fall or winter pocket square than a summer one though.

IMG_1067

Here’s the tie and the pocket square together! I like that they go well together without being too matchy-matchy.

IMG_1068

Harrison Blake Baseball Cap | $25.00
This is an item that I feel the retail value is really off. For $25 you can buy a pretty good quality baseball cap, whereas this is a very simple model. It’s the same quality you could get for just a few dollars at Target. I do like that the logo is more ambiguous–my husband can definitely wear it without feeling like a walking advertisement.

Harrison Blake Apparel Subscription May 2017 Box Review plus Promo Code!

The adjustable back is cloth, not the plastic type that I hate. You guys know what I’m talking about, right? As a kid all my baseball caps had a hard plastic adjustable back and it was the worst. It was always so uncomfortable! Happy to see that this is the cloth back with a metal adjustor.

IMG_1057

Harrison Blake Stainless Steel Ring | $35.00
This is an item that isn’t for us. My husband never wears jewelry besides his wedding band, and this is actually the wrong size for him anyways. We were thinking about who we could gift this to and neither one of us could think of a male friend who wears rings!

IMG_1070

It seems risky to send an item that is so specifically sized. My husband’s ring size is a 7 and a size 10 is way too big for all his fingers.

IMG_1069

Harrison Blake No Show Boat Socks | $7.00
Even though this is the lowest value item, it’s actually really useful for my husband! I mean, who doesn’t need more socks? He’s a size 11 shoe size and these fit him perfectly, so I’m not sure if they would be too large for someone who wears a smaller size. I really like the patriotic pattern–just in time for Memorial Day!

IMG_1062

The backs of the socks have a rubbery grip to help keep them in place.

IMG_1063

Foldable Water Bottle | ?
This is considered the bonus item for this month, which makes sense because it looks like a promotional item for the brand.

IMG_1059

May wasn’t our favorite month because the pocket square and ring are both not something he would be wearing any time soon. The value supposedly comes out to $117.00 but again, I think it’s inflated. However, I still think it’s a good value for the cost. For only $25 (or $10 if you use the promo code!) you get a tie, pocket square, baseball cap, ring, socks, and a water bottle. That’s an amazing deal!

I think it could be a really fun subscription for someone who is in college or for a young professional, since it gives them a fun and affordable way to start building a tie collection and also provides them with other accessories like pocket squares, lapel pins, collar stays, etc.
