Peaches and Petals May 2017 Review

Like I’ve mentioned in my previous Peaches and Petals reviews, it seems that this subscription has been sending out their boxes at the tail end of the month. I actually thought this was June’s box when I received it, since they don’t put information cards in the boxes anymore. I’m glad I have this blog to help me keep track!

Peaches and Petals is a monthly subscription service that sends out vintage-modern items and beauty goods. For $19.99 a month (includes shipping), you’ll receive a mix of jewelry, fashion accessories, lifestyle goods, and beauty samples. Usually each month has a theme for the box, and the theme for May is “Vacation, All I Ever Wanted”.

Peaches and Petals May 2017 Review

World’s Best Spungee Neck Support Travel Pillow | $11.45
I appreciate getting a travel pillow in a box, since I have never received one from a subscription box before. But on the other hand, this is a pretty bad travel pillow. This seems to be an old model since it does not come with any way to keep the pillow together at the front. It’s almost impossible to keep it on your shoulders as you sleep, since the pillow has no way of keeping the U structure. If you’re a seasoned traveler, you know that having a snap or toggle at the front is essential!

IMG_1159

Gud by Burt’s Bees Cleaning Wipes | $4.99
These are discontinued products and the pear one (the green packaging on the right in the picture) definitely shows it. The entire package is leaking a light brown liquid that is sticky. The red one is pretty dry for a cleansing wipe, and I don’t know if it’s because it’s been sitting on a shelf for a long time or if these wipes are just designed like that. I don’t know how old these are but I won’t I’ll be using them. I’m disappointed because cleansing wipes are so cheap already. I buy them for 50 cents from Target when I’m going on a trip! Peaches and Petals could have easily bought current wipes to send that aren’t leaking or dried out!

IMG_1161

Soapbox Hope-To-Go Travel Kit | $7.99
I’m pleased to see a very useful kit that also supports a great cause! This travel kit contains TSA approved containers of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and body lotion. For each kit sold, a month of clean water will be given to a person in need through an organization called Splash.

IMG_1162

The products themselves are all quite nice as well. I especially like that these containers are easy to clean and refill, and the bag it all comes in meets TSA requirements too!

IMG_1163

Sara Beth Candle in Seaside | $12.00 (?)
This appears to be a brand that is often used for fundraising. I remember back in middle school we had these sorts of fundraisers every year! It seems kind of odd that it’s now included in a subscription box. And does anyone else think candles are a poor choice for these sorts of fundraising events? I remember we had to hand deliver the products to each person who purchased–candles would have been so heavy!

IMG_1164 (1)

Anyways, enough about my speculation about the fundraising. This candle has a really refreshing crisp scent and I love the wooden wick! Wooden wicks are always so much fun to burn and I rarely purchase them for myself, so I’m very happy to see this in my box! The candle came in giftable packaging as well, which I appreciate.

IMG_1165

Umbra Magnetic Board | $8.00 (?)
Last but not least, this super cute magnetic board! This is hands down my favorite item from the box! I love the Umbra brand, and I hope we see more of their products in future Peaches and Petals boxes. They make such stylish but affordable home goods!

IMG_1166

The board comes with 6 magnets and is approximately 15.5″ x 15″ in size. It’s very light and easy to hang on a wall. I love the simple design and empowering phrase!

IMG_1167

It was sort of mixed bag (or should I say a mixed box?) for me, but overall I would consider it a box that I liked. The Umbra board is so cute and I love it a lot, and the candle and travel kit are both useful and fun. The cleaning wipes were a total dud, but since they take up the least amount of value I’m not too upset. The travel pillow had potential to be amazing as well but the design was just awful. But I do think this is a huge step up from the past few boxes! I really hope this is an upward trend that will continue. I’m actually very excited to see what next month will bring!

The Honest Company Baby Essentials Bundle Review plus Promo Code

I haven’t reviewed a bundle from The Honest Company in a very long time! We consistently subscribe but we tend to stick to our favorites and it would be rather tedious to keep reviewing the exact same products every couple of months. But one of my very good friends recently had a baby and I decided to mail her a little care package–and of course I just had to include some Honest products! She called me raving about her favorite items so I thought it would be nice to do a new review of the baby products that I sent her. (By the way, the subscription model is amazing for new moms! She’s thrilled she can have all her cleaning products mailed to her so she doesn’t have to make a trip to the store and lug all the heavy stuff back!)

The Honest Company delivers family necessities directly to your door, and you can choose between three different plans: Diapers & Wipes Bundle (exactly as it sounds, it’s diapers and baby wipes), Essentials Bundle (cleaning supplies and body products), and a Health & Wellness Bundle (vitamins). All their products are eco-friendly without harsh chemicals, and almost their entire collection are vegan! I subscribe to the Essentials Bundle, which costs $35.95 per box. It comes out to $7.19 per item! It’s completely customizable (you log in and select the products you want in your bundle), and you can choose when you want the box delivered. With each box, you can also order 3 additional items with a 25% discount. Overall, I find it to be a really good deal. If you’re interested in getting started, use promo code INVITED10 for $10 off your first bundle.

Organic Belly Balm | $15.95
My friend swears that this stuff does work! She was very worried about stretch marks so she was using this at least once a day. The balm softens and melts when you apply it, so it goes on very smooth and the jar lasts a long time. One thing she really appreciated about this balm is that it’s unscented. She said she went through periods when she would feel nauseous from almost any scent, so it was really important for her to have an unscented balm to use.

The Honest Company Baby Essentials Bundle Review plus Promo Code

Organic Nipple Balm | $13.95
I have never had kids before so I didn’t even know nipple balm was a thing until I saw it as one of my bundle options, but apparently it’s very important! She said this was a total lifesaver when she was nursing and her nipples were very sore and inflamed. The best part about this balm is that it’s made with USDA certified organic ingredients and made with all food grade ingredients, so you don’t have to wipe it off before nursing. Even though it’s a small container, it lasts a very long time. The small size is really convenient for tucking into a diaper bag or bringing it anywhere on the go.

The Honest Company Baby Essentials Bundle Review plus Promo Code

Soothing Baby Bottom Wash | $9.95
My friend is very eco-conscious so she chooses not to use disposable baby wipes. I got her this bottom wash and also several soft cloth wipes that can be thrown into the washing machine. This bottom wash contains organic aloe to sooth skin and also has botanical extracts to clean. It’s all natural, hypoallergenic, is made without sulfates, phthalates, parabens, fragrances, and dyes.

The Honest Company Baby Essentials Bundle Review plus Promo Code

Diaper Rash Cream | $9.95
This is the only product I sent that she felt was unnecessary. Which is kind of funny, since I thought this would be the most useful item! It turns out that it’s pretty similar to the healing balm, but the healing balm actually works even better for diaper rash! She likes the slimmer packaging of this cream, so she said she keeps this one in her diaper bag and the healing balm at home.

The Honest Company Baby Essentials Bundle Review plus Promo Code

Organic Healing Balm | $12.95
This isn’t specific to baby, since I keep several tubes of it in my own household. But it’s my favorite product that Honest makes and I think everyone should try it. I sent it to my friend and it’s actually her favorite product too! She said it’s a miracle worker for diaper rash! She’s started using it for herself and her husband as well–it’s perfect for cuts, scrapes, blisters, etc. I’ve even used it as a substitute for lip balm before and had great results.

The Honest Company Baby Essentials Bundle Review plus Promo Code

The total value of my bundles comes to $62.75. I’m very happy with the value, since it’s about 40% off the sticker price for all the items! And my friend really enjoyed all her goodies. I now have a list of things to buy for future baby showers!

I say this with every review that I do for Honest: the essentials bundle is always a good deal if you’re willing to do the math and if you want some of the pricier items. If you only want 5 items that are on the cheaper side (wipes, dryer cloths, soap, etc.), you’re better off buying them individually. If you’re getting the expensive items like the healing balm and belly balm, adding it to a bundle is the way to go. I like to make all 5 of my bundle items the more expensive stuff, since I only pay $35.95 for the bundle. Then I add the cheaper items as my add-ons because I get 25% off. Again, if you want to check out Honest and get your first bundle, use promo code INVITED10 for $10 off!

POPSUGAR Must Have May 2017 Box Review

Back on track with May boxes! I’m always amazed by how much I look forward to getting my POPSUGAR box each month. I have been subscribed for 3 years now and it’s still one of my favorite subscriptions. They consistently deliver amazing value and the curation is always thoughtful and on trend. I have discovered so many new brands and products that I love!

POPSUGAR Must Have is a subscription service that sends a variety of items for women that are curated by the POPSUGAR editors. Items typically include food, beauty, home, among other miscellaneous things. Each month is $39.99/month, but you can use the code REFER5 to get $5 off your first month.

POPSUGAR Must Have May 2017 Box Review

Samantha Faye Inspirational Cuff | $60.00
First up is a silver cuff that is exclusively designed for POPSUGAR. It comes in a little velvet pouch that is great for gifting. While this is the highest value item in the box, it’s actually my least favorite item. The phrasing “Be good, Do good, Feel good” isn’t for me and I prefer gold jewelry. But luckily I have a friend who would really enjoy this and I can pass it along to her.

IMG_1044

It fits very well on me and is comfortable to wear. The quality looks excellent and the cuff feels sturdy. I wish we had received one of Samantha Faye’s regular designs instead of this exclusive one, since I think her actual line of inspirational cuffs is more my style. They usually have just a single phrase like “courage” or “believe”, which I prefer more.

IMG_1046

I think this a very versatile piece. It would be excellent for layering with other bracelets but is also simple and chic and can be worn alone. I know my friend will be really excited to receive this! I love that even when something doesn’t suit my style, everything I get from this box is easily giftable.

IMG_1047

Lipstick Queen Mornin’ Sunshine | $25.00
I was really confused when I first opened this lipstick because the yellow color was so surprising! But after reading more about it and trying it on, I love it. The yellow color transforms into a sheer coral once you apply it and it’s super flattering. It reminds me of Dior Addict LipGlow (one of my holy grail items!) because of the way the color morphs to match your skin tone and how moisturizing it is. I am so thrilled with discovering this product and this brand as a whole.

IMG_1048

Tocca Montauk Candle | $20.00
Whenever I see Tocca in a box I get really excited. I love their scents so much! I wish I had purchased a second box so I can have two of these candles. The salt air cucumber scent is so fresh and light–it’s perfect for summer. It reminds me of enjoying delicious cocktails on the beach! Even though this is just a 3 ounce candle, it has a burn time of about 30 hours.

IMG_1050

Swing Design Essex Frame | $13.00
I was very surprised to see the low retail value of this frame! I expected it to be more expensive since it looks really elegant with the sleek silver edge and thick white mat. It’s versatile enough to go with any home decor. I have a lot of pictures that I never remember to purchase frames for, so this is perfect! And at such a low price point I will probably be purchasing more of them so I can have a set. Another great find!

IMG_1053

The frame also comes in a box so it’s ready to be gifted.

IMG_1051

Southern Culture Strawberry Muffin Mix | $8.00
Always happy to see baking mixes! I love to bake but I’m also rather lazy, so a nice baking mix like this is the best of both worlds. This mix requires whole milk and 2 eggs. I haven’t found an occasion to bake these yet, but from the reviews it sounds like you might need to add extra sugar or fresh strawberries to help bring out the strawberry flavor. I’m reserving judgement for now since I haven’t baked it myself, but I do hope they turn out okay!

IMG_1049

Nicely Noted Card Collection | $17.50
When I first saw the cards I was so excited! I adore letterpress everything and had been eyeing Nicely Noted for a while now. I was really excited to get 3 beautiful letterpress cards, but I was disappointed to discover that these are not actual letterpress cards. It seems really pointless to include cards that are not what a subscriber would actually receive. These are just your typical printed cards, sort of like something you could buy in a boxed set at Target.

IMG_1054

I also really dislike the Nicely Noted logo on the backs of the cards. I always prefer it when subscription box items do not include a logo of the actual subscription that they came from, since it feels like advertisement and it seems tacky to me. In this case, I love buying card from independent small studios and it feels weird to have a Nicely Noted logo slapped on the back.

IMG_1055

Overall it was a great box for me! The value comes to $143.49 which is fantastic, and pretty standard for POPSUGAR boxes. I loved the frame, candle, and lipstick! They are some of my favorite subscription box items this year! If the cards had been actual letterpress cards, this would have been a complete home run for me.

Peaches and Petals April 2017 Review

Still catching up on April, but this is the last over-due review! It seems that Peaches and Petals has been shipping their boxes on a new later schedule now, so it’s something to keep in mind. My February and March boxes were both quite late.

Peaches and Petals is a monthly subscription service that sends out vintage-modern items and beauty goods. For $19.99 a month (includes shipping), you’ll receive a mix of jewelry, fashion accessories, lifestyle goods, and beauty samples. Usually each month has a theme for the box, and the theme for April is “Fun in the Sun”.

Peaches and Petals April 2017 Review

I wish they would go back to their old cards, which listed all the items in the box. The boxes have also been packed more haphazardly in the past few months, with just a tiny handful of crinkle paper and nothing else. It feels like they’re trying to cut corners everywhere. If you’re someone who doesn’t place much emphasis on packaging this could be a good thing–the company can place more value into the items themselves! But I personally think that packaging is a big part of a subscription box, so for me this is a disappointing change.

IMG_1035

Rug | $10.00 (?)
This is one of the reasons why I would have loved a card listing all the contents. I don’t really know what this is. I’m guessing it’s a rug or bathmat, but it doesn’t have any sort of grip on the back side. It could also work as a small picnic blanket.

IMG_1037

I’ll probably keep it in my car as a small picnic blanket. On one hand I was frustrated when I first opened the box and didn’t know what this was, but on the other hand it doesn’t even really matter. It’s clearly versatile enough to function as whatever you want it to function as! I even considered using this as a heavy duty tablecloth for park picnic benches.

IMG_1038

Close up of the fabric. It’s pretty heavy and sturdy. The pattern is pretty and the material feels substantial enough to hold up to a lot of use.

IMG_1039

Violife 3 Piece Travel Bags | $22.95
Whoa, this is some seriously inflated value. I can’t imagine paying this price tag for 3 little travel bags! Sephora sells great quality ones for between $3 and $5, and Target has adorable prints on their travel bags, which start from just $1. I have no idea what makes these so special, since they look like any other basic travel pouch to me. But I can never have enough travel bags so I’m happy to have a set of three. These bags are so useful for organizing knick knacks and make your suitcase (or tote or whatever) much more neat.

IMG_1040

Alterna Bamboo Anti-Humidity Hair Spray | $3.60
As soon as I saw the anti-humidity part I was all in. Houston gets so crazy humid once summer rolls around (well, it’s already starting) and everyone here is always looking for the next amazing anti-humidity hair product. Alterna is a great brand that I love, so I know this will be a reliable product!

IMG_1036

Occasionally Made Booty Buddy Pool Mat plus Coozie | $22.90
This is another crazy overpriced item. I have no idea who would actually pay $22.90 for this set! The quality is comparable to the stuff I see at Target’s dollar bin at the front of the store. Even the pattern feels like a similar aesthetic to what I have seen at Target!

IMG_1041

I’ll totally admit to not knowing that the “booty buddy” thing was for when I first opened the box. I assumed it was an insulated placemat. It’s actually supposed to be a cushion that you can sit on when you’re around the pool. I feel like if it’s really meant to be a cushion it needs to be more substantial. I would never bother bringing such a bulky item just to have a layer of neoprene to sit on. A towel would do the exact same thing and also have a lot of other uses as well.

IMG_1042

I find the value for this box to be really hard to judge, since some of the items are so overinflated and the rug is unbranded.

This was a disappointing box for me. While I enjoyed the rug/blanket thing and the hairspray, the pouches and pad/drink holder set were very overinflated in value. The pool buddy pad and drink holder are also both items I would never use. Usually when I receive items that aren’t for me, I’m happy to pass them along to a friend. I don’t know anyone who would use the pad or the drink holder, and I wouldn’t gift them to a stranger because it looks like a dollar store find.

I wish Peaches and Petals would go back to the way they were last year! I feel like they sent out more unique items that were curated around the specific theme. Lately the boxes feel very lackluster. I hope to see them turn it around soon.

FabFitFun Spring 2017 Subscription Review plus $10 Off!

Whew, finally I get to review my Spring FabFitFun box! Since I’m not an annual subscriber and didn’t purchase any add-ons, I’m at the very end of the shipping schedule. I think annual subscribers got their boxes several weeks ago! But it was absolutely worth the wait. This might be my favorite box from FFF yet!

FabFitFun is a quarterly subscription box that sends out beauty, wellness, fashion, and fitness products for $49.99 a box. If you choose to purchase a whole year (4 boxes), the price goes down to $44.99 a box. They promise at least a $200 value in each box, though they sometimes exceed that by quite a bit. If you’re looking for a box that delivers an amazingly great value each time, this is the one!

Get $10 off (bringing the price down to only $39.99) by using this link. For $39.99, that’s a total steal! That makes it the same price as POPSUGAR Must Have, except the value here is somehow almost double your average POPSUGAR box!

IMG_0753

Look at how beautiful the box design is! I have been really impressed with the last few box designs. I also love that they have a little blurb about the featured box artist every season! This box was created by Cat Coquillette, an independent illustrator.

IMG_0754

Look at all the pretty goodies! Since I got my box so late I already knew what the box would contain. I just can’t help myself when it comes to spoilers!

IMG_0755

I always like to mention how much I enjoy the little insert that comes with each box. It’s always thoughtfully written and interesting to read. It has lots of little tips and tricks for how to use the items, along with interesting interviews and articles. Oh and you know what is super awesome about this box? It focuses on female founded brands! 7 of the 8 items are from brands founded by women, which I think is fantastic.

IMG_0771

Gypsy 05 Roundie | $50.00
This was an item that came with variations, and if you were an annual subscriber you were able to choose your pattern beforehand. Since I subscribe quarterly, I received a random pattern. But since I thought all 3 options were really cute (it was between this blue tie die one, a pastel colored geometric one, and a yellow paisley), I didn’t mind at all. I’m very pleased with the tie die pattern! Initially I was planning to keep this for myself, but one of my best friends just moved into a new apartment and I thought this was be a really cute gift for her!

IMG_0760

Since I gifted mine, I wasn’t able to get a picture of the roundie in all its splendor. I’m adding this lovely photo from My Subscription Addiction below. Cute, right? So perfect for spring and summer!

Fab-fit-fun-spring-2017-0087

Emerald Duv Joshua Tree Cage Bracelet | $80.00
I’m really happy that this was a choice given to all subscribers! You could either choose this bracelet or earrings from LUV AJ. I haven’t been very impressed with LUV AJ in the past so I went with the bracelet and I’m so glad I did. It’s beautiful and fits me perfectly.

IMG_0761

The simple design is exactly my style and the construction is solid. It looks striking on my vanity and I have already received compliments on it! I wish I had bought another spring box just so I could have another one of these cuffs.

IMG_0762

I have been finding excuses to wear this! It’s a piece that is easy to dress up or down, and goes with pretty much everything I own. I can also layer it with bangles for a bold look. I love how versatile it is and I just know it’s going to be a staple for me.

IMG_0764

Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Age Defying Exfoliator | $79.00
FabFitFun has really upped their game with the beauty brands! Dr. Brandt is such a wonderful brand with great products, and this is one of their bestselling items! It’s a cult favorite that I’ve bought from Sephora before. It’s a really fine grain exfoliator that leaves your face feeling smooth and polished. I am so excited to have a full sized version of this! A little goes a long way so this large size will last a while.

IMG_0756

Karuna Hydrating+ Face Masks | $28.00
Another amazing beauty item! This is yet another product that I’ve purchased before from Sephora and love. The scent is really subtle and my face feels amazing after I use it. It really packs a punch for skin hydration! I usually keep the mask on for about 25 minutes to give the serum a good long time to sink in.

IMG_0758

The pack comes with 4 individual masks. I really want to buy another pack and host a girls spa night! Or maybe I’ll just hoard all these masks for myself…

IMG_0759

Briogeo Rosarco Milk Reparative Leave-In Conditioning Spray | $20.00
I have been seeing Briogeo products everywhere lately! I have so many hair products that I have been trying to avoid opening any more, but I am really excited to try this one. It has so many glowing reviews! And I know the brand is very gentle on hair and lots of people swear by it. Very pleased to have this on hand so I can try it!

IMG_0757

RealHer Lip Kit in Deep Red | $48.00
This is another item that annual subscribers were allowed to choose (between the options of Deep Red, Deep Nude, and Neutral Pink), but quarterly subscribers were given one at random. I wish I had gotten the nude, since I usually can’t pull off such a dark red. I’ll be passing this one along to a friend.

IMG_0770

The package is sealed with plastic and I didn’t want to open it, but again I’m borrowing a photo from Liz over at My Subscription Addiction. The kit comes with a liquid lipstick, plumping lip gloss, and a lip liner.

FabFitFun Spring 2017 Subscription Review plus $10 Off!

Milly Zip Pouch | $45.00
Surprisingly this is one of my favorite items in this box! It’s a swimsuit bag that is really great quality and has a cute saying on the front. There were 4 variations of this item, but nobody was allowed to choose and everyone was given one at random. The options were: Resting Beach Face (green), Slay All Day (white), Beach Please (blue), and Haute Mess (pink). I was so happy to get my preferred variation!

IMG_0766

The bag is very generously sized, and can also work as a cute clutch for going to the beach. The interior is lined with a waterproof material, so if you put a wet swimsuit inside it will contain that moisture. Super useful so you don’t get all your other stuff wet!

IMG_0767

Deborah Lippmann Nail Polish Set | $19.00
Yet another variation item! They really had lots of variations for this box! Subscribers either received this mini set with Shape Of My Heart (pink) and Like A Virgin (white) or a set with Blue Orchid (blue) and Like A Virgin (white). I’m happy to get the pink. Deborah Lippmann products are usually a splurge for me, so it’s a treat to get their products from a subscription box. As an added bonus, a portion of the proceeds from this set supports MORE THAN ME Foundation, an organization that empowers girls in Liberia.

IMG_0765

The box also included a sponsored extra, which in this case is a mini bottle of Nature’s Bounty Hair, Skin, & Nails Gummies. I usually buy these in the large bottles from Costco, and take them daily. I think it’s great that I get a travel sized version now! Personally I think the flavor is yummy — they taste just like strawberry fruit snacks.

IMG_0768

Wow, what a box! It’s my absolute favorite from FabFitFun so far! The value is ridiculously good, as usual. This box comes to a whopping $369.00, which isn’t even counting the bonus vitamins. All the items are exactly what I envision for spring and make me excited for the warm weather.

If you’re interested in getting FabFitFun boxes, get $10 off (bringing the price down to only $39.99) by using this link. For $39.99, that’s a total steal! I promise you that you will not regret it. I am consistently amazed that they are able to pull a box with such high value together and charge such a low rate. I’m so sad that I have to wait until June for my next box!
