Peaches and Petals May 2017 Review

Like I’ve mentioned in my previous Peaches and Petals reviews, it seems that this subscription has been sending out their boxes at the tail end of the month. I actually thought this was June’s box when I received it, since they don’t put information cards in the boxes anymore. I’m glad I have this blog to help me keep track!

Peaches and Petals is a monthly subscription service that sends out vintage-modern items and beauty goods. For $19.99 a month (includes shipping), you’ll receive a mix of jewelry, fashion accessories, lifestyle goods, and beauty samples. Usually each month has a theme for the box, and the theme for May is “Vacation, All I Ever Wanted”.

Peaches and Petals May 2017 Review

World’s Best Spungee Neck Support Travel Pillow | $11.45
I appreciate getting a travel pillow in a box, since I have never received one from a subscription box before. But on the other hand, this is a pretty bad travel pillow. This seems to be an old model since it does not come with any way to keep the pillow together at the front. It’s almost impossible to keep it on your shoulders as you sleep, since the pillow has no way of keeping the U structure. If you’re a seasoned traveler, you know that having a snap or toggle at the front is essential!

Gud by Burt’s Bees Cleaning Wipes | $4.99
These are discontinued products and the pear one (the green packaging on the right in the picture) definitely shows it. The entire package is leaking a light brown liquid that is sticky. The red one is pretty dry for a cleansing wipe, and I don’t know if it’s because it’s been sitting on a shelf for a long time or if these wipes are just designed like that. I don’t know how old these are but I won’t I’ll be using them. I’m disappointed because cleansing wipes are so cheap already. I buy them for 50 cents from Target when I’m going on a trip! Peaches and Petals could have easily bought current wipes to send that aren’t leaking or dried out!

IMG_1161

Soapbox Hope-To-Go Travel Kit | $7.99
I’m pleased to see a very useful kit that also supports a great cause! This travel kit contains TSA approved containers of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and body lotion. For each kit sold, a month of clean water will be given to a person in need through an organization called Splash.

IMG_1162

The products themselves are all quite nice as well. I especially like that these containers are easy to clean and refill, and the bag it all comes in meets TSA requirements too!

IMG_1163

Sara Beth Candle in Seaside | $12.00 (?)
This appears to be a brand that is often used for fundraising. I remember back in middle school we had these sorts of fundraisers every year! It seems kind of odd that it’s now included in a subscription box. And does anyone else think candles are a poor choice for these sorts of fundraising events? I remember we had to hand deliver the products to each person who purchased–candles would have been so heavy!

IMG_1164 (1)

Anyways, enough about my speculation about the fundraising. This candle has a really refreshing crisp scent and I love the wooden wick! Wooden wicks are always so much fun to burn and I rarely purchase them for myself, so I’m very happy to see this in my box! The candle came in giftable packaging as well, which I appreciate.

IMG_1165

Umbra Magnetic Board | $8.00 (?)
Last but not least, this super cute magnetic board! This is hands down my favorite item from the box! I love the Umbra brand, and I hope we see more of their products in future Peaches and Petals boxes. They make such stylish but affordable home goods!

IMG_1166

The board comes with 6 magnets and is approximately 15.5″ x 15″ in size. It’s very light and easy to hang on a wall. I love the simple design and empowering phrase!

IMG_1167

It was sort of mixed bag (or should I say a mixed box?) for me, but overall I would consider it a box that I liked. The Umbra board is so cute and I love it a lot, and the candle and travel kit are both useful and fun. The cleaning wipes were a total dud, but since they take up the least amount of value I’m not too upset. The travel pillow had potential to be amazing as well but the design was just awful. But I do think this is a huge step up from the past few boxes! I really hope this is an upward trend that will continue. I’m actually very excited to see what next month will bring!

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

Last month was light on subscription boxes for me but it looks like I’ll be having an amazing March! The February Little Lace Box got pushed back to March and for some reason I also received my Peaches and Petals box super late.

Peaches and Petals is a monthly subscription service that sends out vintage-modern items and beauty goods. For $19.99 a month (includes shipping), you’ll receive a mix of jewelry, fashion accessories, lifestyle goods, and beauty samples. Usually each month has a theme for the box, and the theme for February is “Made with Love”.

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

For a love themed box, it seems rather disappointing to receive it so far after Valentine’s Day. I’m not sure if my box was an outlier or if they all went out later this month, but the timing is unfortunate.

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

Pizza Ceramic Coasters | $4.00 (?)
These are a little cheesy (see what I did there?) but also pretty cute. Totally embarrassing nerd confession: my husband and I always do a pizza and pie date night at home on “Pi Day” every March 14th. We usually get our favorite pizza delivered, pick up a pie from this awesome local bakery, crack open a couple beers and binge watch nerdy movies. Totally silly but I look forward to it every year! I think these will be a cute little addition to our tradition. Or just any pizza date night in general.

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

The coaster itself is a heavy ceramic and the backing is made of cork. My one minor complaint is that the cork is off center for both coasters, but since I don’t plan to use these for everyday use I don’t really mind.

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

Come Hither Bath Bomb |  $3.00 (?)
Guessing on the price for this bath bomb since I wasn’t able to find it anywhere. Bath bombs are always welcome in this household! I love using them but have a hard time getting myself to actually buy them. They always feel like such a “splurge” item to me! Though I will admit to treating myself to Lush bath bombs every now and then after a really rough work week…

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

I like that it comes in a box so you can easily gift it. The scent is strong but not cloying and I’m excited to use it! The size of the bath bomb itself is pretty generous–about 4 ounces.

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

Look Good, Feel Good: 206 Beauty and Fitness Secrets by Mariah Bear | $25.00
Although I’m glad to see this book isn’t on clearance on Amazon, I don’t think it would actually retail for the full $25 either. It’s an older book from 2013 and I see lots of books just like this for sale at my local Barnes and Nobles for around $5-$8.

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

The book itself is fairly interesting. I like that there’s plenty of high quality pictures that illustrate step by step stuff. There’s sections about massages and spa treatments that look fun and easy to DIY.

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

There’s also exercises and stretches. I personally prefer videos of workouts, but if you enjoy wellness books this would be a nice one to flip through.

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

Sprigs Hot Collars | $18.95
Okay, this item is really confusing to me. It’s a fleece collar scarf thing that keeps your neck warm. But I guess I’m wondering why you wouldn’t just use an actual scarf? I can definitely see my dad buying this and getting really excited about it. Except he’s almost 60, so I doubt he’s the target audience for Peaches and Petals. Just seems like a total miss to me. But on the bright side, this would be a great item to donate. Anything that can provide warmth is very welcome for homeless shelters–socks, fleece anything, blankets, gloves, etc. I’ll add this to my donation pile, I know it will get to someone who actually needs it!

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

Wilton Heart Cookie Pop Pan | $3.00 (?)
And finally, a Valentine’s Day item. I know these normally retail for more than my estimated value, but I literally just saw this on clearance at Michael’s last week. I own a lot of Wilton products and their quality is good, so it’s great that we’re getting a brand name product. And it’s pretty unique. I’ve definitely never received anything like this from any other subscription. It’s a cookie pan designed to make cookie “pops”.

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

These are really big cookie molds! (Hand for scale.) I would have been happy to get this if I received it well before Valentine’s Day. It would have motivated me to actually bake some treats for my friends and coworkers. But now it just feels like a clearance item that I would have to store in my kitchen for a whole year.

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

Bottom line: pretty disappointing. If the timing had been better, I think I would have enjoyed most of the box. If I had gotten this box a week before Valentine’s Day the cookie pan would have been my favorite item. But now that it’s so far past Valentine’s Day, it feels like really cheap discounted junk.

While I still like the coasters and the bath bomb, it makes up a tiny portion of the overall value. If I had paid $20 for this box I would be so let down. The book feels outdated and the value seems inflated, and the collar thing is just an odd choice. It really doesn’t fit the theme at all and also feels like a clearance aisle product.

I hope in the future the boxes have better curation. This is probably my least favorite month so far, which is really sad because I actually liked January’s and had been hoping for a very good year.

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2016 Box Review

Still not sure what has been going on with me and POPSUGAR Must Have lately, but this is the third month in a row of lackluster boxes for me. May and June didn’t blow me away so I was really hoping that July would be an amazing box. While there’s nothing wrong with the July box or anything, it was just aimed for a different demographic than myself.

POPSUGAR Must Have is a subscription service that sends a variety of items for women that are curated by the POPSUGAR editors. Items typically include food, beauty, home, among other miscellaneous things. Each month is $39.99/month, but you can use the code REFER5 to get $5 off your first month. Or, you can use the gift with purchase code at the bottom of this post.

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2016 Box Review

I like how summer-y this box feels, and it definitely makes me think of pools and beaches.

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2016 Box Review

Sunnylife Inflatable Swan Drink Holder | $18.00
This is a really unique item! I haven’t seen anything like this in any subscription boxes, so definitely props to POPSUGAR for originality. I would have preferred a pool float from Sunnylife instead of just a drink holder. I think that would have also been more versatile, since you can use a float in a lake or river whereas a drink holder is so small that you can really only use it in a pool.

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2016 Box Review

Here’s the swan fully inflated. It feels pretty high quality and the cup holders are generously sized. It’s stable enough to stay upright easily in a pool setting. I like that the package also came with a sticky patch that can be used to repair any future leaks/punctures. I would be really interested in getting more Sunnylife inflatable products in the future!

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2016 Box Review

Sachajuan Hair in the Sun | $32.00
It’s hard for me to get excited about more hair products, since 2016 feels like the summer of haircare from subscription boxes. I swear, we’ve been completely bombarded! On the bright side, this styling cream is designed to be sort of a “sunscreen” for your hair–something I haven’t received yet. It protects hair from UV rays. I personally really like how my hair looks in the summer since it gets these really light brown sun highlights, but I do know it’s unhealthy for my hair. Sachajuan is a great brand so I know I’ll probably end up liking this cream a lot.

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2016 Box Review

European Wax Center Oh My Brow! Brow Highlighter in Pearl | $19.00
I was pleasantly surprised by this brow highlighter, mostly because of the dual tips and the caps. It’s perfect for travel and the staying power of the highlighter is pretty good too. It’s not too glittery either, so it works well for a neutral casual look. I haven’t heard of this brand before so I was surprised to learn they actually have several locations in Houston. All of which have pretty good reviews too, so I might check them out next time I get my brows done.

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2016 Box Review

Joe Chips Classic Sea Salt Retro Chips | $1.50
Classic potato chips. No complaints here. I finished the bag quickly since it wasn’t a big bag or anything. I miss the days of larger sized food items in POPSUGAR boxes! (Though my waistline doesn’t.)

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2016 Box Review

House of Pom Emoji Cocktail Napkins | $25.00
I’m really disappointed that we finally get cloth napkins and they have emojis on them. I don’t have anything against emojis. In fact I use them all the time and love that they’re all over the place now. But this just isn’t my style and definitely wouldn’t fit in my home. I would have preferred a simple neutral napkin set. I do admit these are really fun napkins, but I guess it just feels really young to me. Like something I would have used when I was in college. This set was made exclusively for POPSUGAR Must Have so the value is determined by POPSUGAR. I personally wouldn’t pay $25 for this set of napkins, due to the rather poor quality of the fabric and stitching.

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2016 Box Review

Pintrill Pineapple Pin | $12.00
Another item that feels pretty young! I see enamel pins everywhere these days and have bought a couple for myself just for fun, so I know it’s pretty trendy right now. I see some backpacks adorned with dozens of the cutest enamel pins. Love it! I haven’t really figured what I should do with these pins though. My friend gave me one for my birthday that I really want to use but I don’t know where I should put it. Any suggestions or ideas about other uses for enamel pins is greatly appreciated!

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2016 Box Review

Michael Stars Porcelain Skinny Scarf in White | $30.00
I’m the most let down by this product. I was excited to see the brand Michael Stars because his scarf from a previous box (2 years ago maybe?) continues to be one of my favorite go-to scarves. But this pattern is so similar to the sarong that we received last month in the June POPSUGAR Must Have. Seeing as how this exact scarf also comes in blue, I’m surprised we didn’t get the blue version just to mix it up a little.

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2016 Box Review

The scarf dimensions are quite small. The width is only a little more wide than my hand, and the material is sheer. I don’t wear scarves in the summer and like more substantial scarves in the fall and winter so I don’t know what to do with this one. I’ll probably end up gifting it to a friend.

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2016 Box Review

Subscribers were also supposed to receive a $20 “gift card” to Trove Jewelry that I was missing. Since nothing on the site is even close to $20, I didn’t bother to ask customer service to mail me one. (Sidenote: POPSUGAR’s customer service has been nothing but great for me. I know some people have reported poor service but I have had very good experiences so far. I am positive if I had reached out they would have sent me a replacement card.)

Overall the box feels like it’s missing a big item. Everything is in the $30ish or less category and I feel like I want a big ticket item in the $60-$80 range. I think without a big item like that, the box can feel like a bunch of random little knick knacks that are thrown together. Even though the overall value is $137.00, it feels lacking. This is the exact same criticism I had for the June box as well.

My bigger concern is that I’m aging out of POPSUGAR’s target demographic. This is the first box that I really felt “too old” for. The emoji napkins and enamel pin are things I expect to see at Urban Outfitters or something, and it feels aimed at a more college-aged crowd. Curious to see what August will bring. I really hope I’m not getting too old for my favorite pink boxes! With my birthday coming up it’s getting me all sad and nostalgic.

FabFitFun Spring 2016 Subscription Review plus $10 Off!

I’m happy to announce that I’m finally a FabFitFun subscriber now! I have been closely following the box for over a year now but never pulled the trigger because it seems very similar to POPSUGAR Must Have, and there have always been a few items in each box that I was not interested in at all. But this time I saw the spoilers and wanted literally everything in the box! Naturally, I had to give in.

FabFitFun is a quarterly subscription box that sends out beauty, wellness, fashion, and fitness products for $49.99 a box. If you choose to purchase a whole year (4 boxes), the price goes down to $44.99 a box. They promise at least a $200 value in each box, though they always exceed that. If you’re looking for a box that delivers an amazingly great value each time, this is the one!

Good news: if you like the Spring box that I’ll be reviewing today, you can still purchase it! Get $10 off (bringing the price down to only $39.99) by using this link. Or you can use promo code MSA10 for $10 off (thanks, My Subscription Addiction!). Unfortunately you can’t combine the two offers for $20 off, but $39.99 is the same cost as a POPSUGAR box! And the retail value is over $100 more than the March POPSUGAR box. Just saying.

Love the bright colors of this box. They include a little mini magazine that lists the items in the box and also has some information about the featured brands. It reminds me a lot of the Rachel Zoe Box of Style booklets since it has a good mix of articles, interviews, and how-to types of tips and tricks.

I read through the entire zine and found it pretty interesting and informative. I was intrigued by the ISH brand, since it’s a cosmetics brand launched by FabFitFun itself. I think the contour kit that came in this box is one of their first products, and I’m wondering if we’ll be seeing more ISH items in future FabFitFun boxes from now on.

ISH Contour Kit | $32.00
Speaking of ISH, it’s the first product I opened from the box. When you first sign up, you fill out a little profile questionnaire that includes what shade your skin tone is. Based on that answer, subscribers received either the Light/Medium kit or the Medium/Dark kit. I got the Light/Medium and all the colors work well for me. I appreciate the inclusion of a Medium/Dark option, since I notice most subscription boxes will default to a fair skin option only. My best friend is Indian and it’s so frustrating for her when she gets a BB cream that she’s been dying to try but it’s in the wrong shade for her skin.

The colors are very muted and provide a light wash of color, so it’s not too intimidating. It feels very similar to the Pixi Book of Beauty from the POPSUGAR Must Have March box that I just received. It’s about the same thickness (very slim and perfect for travel), similar pigmentation, and are both meant for a natural sort of look. If you’re torn between the two options like I was, I would say to go with Pixi if you have warm undertones and go with ISH if you have cool undertones.

HelloLegs Shaving Emulation Lotion | $19.95
With all the warm weather we’re getting, I have been buying spring dresses left and right so getting a shaving lotion makes a lot of sense. I go through shaving products like crazy this time of year! This lotion is very moisturizing and I was able to get a very close shave with it. My legs felt so smooth and silky afterwards! The only downside is that this is a pretty luxurious and pricey product to me. The full sized bottle is only 3 oz for almost $20. But I love getting items like this in boxes, because I know I would never splurge on the full price for myself! Based on the fact that the website for this brand isn’t up yet, I’m guessing this is a new product. Good to know: when the website does launch, you can use code EXTRA to get a free second bottle if you purchase one at full price on HelloLegs.com. Maybe I’ll grab another 2 when I can; at $10 each it fits nicely in my price range.

Marrakesh Argan & Hemp Oil Therapy | $22.99
I’m up to my ears with hair products right now, since I go through it so slowly. But it is nice to get a full sized one that has great reviews. Besides, I can never say no to more Argan Oil–it does absolute wonders for my hair. It adds shine, keeps frizz in control (and I’m telling you, the humidity in Houston is no joke!), and helps protect my hair from heat damage. A little goes a long way, so I’m sure this bottle will last me for a very long time.

Jook & Nona Tag Necklace | $65.00
This was a variable item for the boxes, and the four different options were “Dream”, “Love”, “Happy”, and “Inspire”. Annual subscribers were able to choose which word they received. I’m pleased that I got “Dream”, since it’s the word I would have chosen for myself! The necklace is plated in 18k gold and the tag is about 1.25″ wide. As a lover of all things dainty, this was perfect for me!

FabFitFun Spring 2016 Subscription Review plus $10 Off Promo Code

It’s funny how much I like this necklace, because when I initially saw the full box spoilers this was the one item I was on the fence about. I tend to stay away from word jewelry so I wasn’t sure if this would be something I would actually wear. But once I saw it in person and tried it on, I really like it! It is well made, simple, and looks gorgeous layered with other necklaces. The letters are stamped in a very thin font, making it quite subtle. From a distance it looks like just a regular minimal tag necklace, which I love.

Merrithew Yoga Mat Strap | $14.99
Perfect timing for me, because I have been looking to buy a resistance cord! This one is a pretty cool design, because it doubles as a yoga mat carrier as well. You just put the rolled up mat through the two loops at the ends, and the cord serves as a handle that can be slung over your shoulder or worn across the body.

Keratin Gloves and Socks | $9.98
For those of you who have been following my reviews, you know that I am currently obsessed with sheet masks. These are sort of like sheet masks for your hands and feet! It is a glove and sock set, each filled with Keratin, vitamins, and oils. It softens cuticles, strengthens nails, and moisturizes the skin. Julep makes a similar glove product that I’ve used before, but I really like having the socks as well. My feet need some serious TLC to get ready for sandal season, and I need all the help I can get.

Jus D’Amour Bath Bomb Trinity | $28.00
I seem to be getting a lot of bath bombs recently! No complaints though, I adore bath bombs and don’t buy them for myself often since they’re usually rather pricey. The three scents in this trio are: Love Potion (jasmine, rose, and sandalwood), Wake Up (eucalyptus, peppermint, and lime), and Deep Breath (lavender, chamomile, and ylang ylang). They all smell fabulous and aren’t overpowering. It adds a very subtle and light fragrance to the bath water, and each is infused with essential oils to help moisturize the skin. The packaging is also perfect for gifting!

MakersKit Herb Garden | $35.00
My absolute favorite item from this box! The wooden trough is heavy duty and feels very sturdy and well made. It will look beautiful on my counter, and is neutral/classic enough to fit in lots of different households. The included herb seeds are mint, thyme, and basil. I use all three herbs frequently in my kitchen, so I would love to have fresh homegrown herbs on hand! I love getting DIY kits, and FabFitFun gets bonus points for sending one that is practical and screams spring to me.

Each plastic compartment comes with a little bag of soil and seeds. If you’re unsure about your gardening abilities, have no fear. Mint and basil are both super easy to grow. I consider myself to have a black thumb and I’ve successfully grown both herbs before, so that probably means anyone can do it.

$25 Gift Card to 31 Bits | $25.00
I’m not going to count this gift card towards the value of the box, since you can’t actually purchase anything on their website for less than $25. There are some child sized jewelry pieces for $25, but since this card doesn’t give you free shipping, you still have to spend some amount of money. Right now I’m not seeing anything I want, but I do like their mission and story. All the beads are made of paper, and the company works to empower women in Uganda by providing them with education and mentorship.

Sterling Forever $30 Gift Card | $30.00
Another gift card! FabFitFun tends to send out several gift card/coupon codes in each box. This one I actually will count towards the value of the box, since there are plenty of options under $30 and the card comes with free shipping. Card expires 4/1/2017, so there’s plenty of time to choose something. I got a cute pair of earrings for no extra cost!

FabFitFun Spring 2016 Subscription Review plus $10 Off Promo Code

What a box, right? The overall value comes to $257.91, which is incredible for the cost! I’m so happy with the curation, and plan to use (or have already used) all of them. It really did live up to the name of “FabFitFun” for me, since I got lots of fabulous luxe products (bath bombs, shaving lotion, jewelry), a fitness item (yoga resistance strap), and I had so much fun going through my box and trying everything! The curation was thoughtful and everything seemed appropriate for spring.

Like what you see? Get $10 off (bringing the price down to only $39.99) by using this link. The Spring Box is still available, but it will probably sell out within the next week or so. I’m so excited to have joined the FabFitFun subscriber list. I’m honestly surprised I was able to hold out for so long. Can’t wait to see what is in store for us in the Summer box!
