Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box May 2017 Review

Wow, this review is late–even by my procrastinating standards! I genuinely thought this box was the June shipment (since I received it earlier this month) so I was holding off on posting this review until mid-month. But imagine my horror when I saw a shipping notice in my email that said my June box was on the way! I went to look at my last review and lo and behold, it was for April. So….yeah. Sorry about that everyone!

Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box is a monthly jewelry club that represents independent, up-and-coming French jewelry designers. In addition to their monthly shipments, you can also purchase jewelry from their online boutique.

Every month they feature a designer and send a surprise piece of jewelry, though you can choose if you prefer gold or silver and whether or not you have pierced ears. If you do the month to month plan, it’s $35/month. If you prepay, the price goes down to $33/month for a 3 month subscription, $31/month for a 6 month subscription, and $29/month for a 12 month subscription. The unique piece of jewelry is always valued between $50 and $200, so you’re getting a significant discount no matter what option you choose.

Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box May 2017 Review

I always mention this in every review for Emma & Chloe: the packaging is lovely! This black box comes in a padded bubble mailer, so the box is always in pristine condition. And the box is really sturdy and super cute! The interior pattern is adorable and I love to reuse these boxes for storage or for wrapping gifts.

Each month comes with a little mini magazine and also a postcard. I love the beautifully shot photos and thoughtful content. There’s always an interview with the featured designer plus lots of other little articles that are fun to read.

If you’re a lover of France (and seriously, who isn’t?) you will really enjoy the articles! There’s always at least one article that makes me ready to jet off to Paris. Luckily this month it’s all about Parisian picnics and how you can create your own without having to fly across the pond. I love all the suggestions! This magazine is packed with styling tips, new trends, and even has a fun quiz at the end every month.

4 Crosses Elsa Earrings | $69.00
The featured piece this month is a beautiful dainty set of earrings from 4 Crosses. Since my preference is gold, I received these in gold but it also came in silver. I love that Emma and Chloe was able to accommodate those who do not have pierced ears! Subscribers who do not have pierced ears were able to get this exact pair as clip ons! I love that, since most subscription companies will just send out an alternative piece like a necklace or bracelet.

Every month comes with a certificate of authenticity and simple care instructions.

A close up of the earrings! I am a big fan of dainty jewelry in general, and long earrings are my jam! They make my neck look really long and they’re statement pieces without being too heavy or large. The warm coral color of the bead is also perfect for my skin tone–coral is my favorite shade for lips and cheeks!

Okay, now here’s the cool part: you can transform these earrings by folding the earring in half so the bead is at the bottom. The post goes through one of the gold links in the chain and suddenly you have earrings that are half the length and more full. I love it! So much fun and versatile.

These earrings look so beautiful when they move! The little gold leaf shapes reflect light and create a lovely draped effect. I always get compliments on my Emma and Chloe pieces, and this was no exception. I wore it to a fancy dinner last week and several people commented on how delicate and pretty my earrings were!

I’m very happy with the jewelry from this month! Although I haven’t had a month that I dislike yet. For the record, this is my 4th month. I think if you’re someone like me who adores dainty jewelry and loves all things French, this is perfect for you. The value is great, the quality of the pieces is awesome, the packaging is beautiful, and you get to discover new designers!

I look at my jewelry collection now and think the curation from Emma and Chloe is so on point. The pieces all look cohesive together and they send you a little of everything. So far I’ve received a ring, a necklace, a bracelet, and now earrings. It’s really smart that they alternate so much! I can’t wait to see what next month will bring, and hopefully I will be better at keeping track of what boxes are meant for which month in the future!

The Honest Company Baby Essentials Bundle Review plus Promo Code

I haven’t reviewed a bundle from The Honest Company in a very long time! We consistently subscribe but we tend to stick to our favorites and it would be rather tedious to keep reviewing the exact same products every couple of months. But one of my very good friends recently had a baby and I decided to mail her a little care package–and of course I just had to include some Honest products! She called me raving about her favorite items so I thought it would be nice to do a new review of the baby products that I sent her. (By the way, the subscription model is amazing for new moms! She’s thrilled she can have all her cleaning products mailed to her so she doesn’t have to make a trip to the store and lug all the heavy stuff back!)

The Honest Company delivers family necessities directly to your door, and you can choose between three different plans: Diapers & Wipes Bundle (exactly as it sounds, it’s diapers and baby wipes), Essentials Bundle (cleaning supplies and body products), and a Health & Wellness Bundle (vitamins). All their products are eco-friendly without harsh chemicals, and almost their entire collection are vegan! I subscribe to the Essentials Bundle, which costs $35.95 per box. It comes out to $7.19 per item! It’s completely customizable (you log in and select the products you want in your bundle), and you can choose when you want the box delivered. With each box, you can also order 3 additional items with a 25% discount. Overall, I find it to be a really good deal. If you’re interested in getting started, use promo code INVITED10 for $10 off your first bundle.

Organic Belly Balm | $15.95
My friend swears that this stuff does work! She was very worried about stretch marks so she was using this at least once a day. The balm softens and melts when you apply it, so it goes on very smooth and the jar lasts a long time. One thing she really appreciated about this balm is that it’s unscented. She said she went through periods when she would feel nauseous from almost any scent, so it was really important for her to have an unscented balm to use.

Organic Nipple Balm | $13.95
I have never had kids before so I didn’t even know nipple balm was a thing until I saw it as one of my bundle options, but apparently it’s very important! She said this was a total lifesaver when she was nursing and her nipples were very sore and inflamed. The best part about this balm is that it’s made with USDA certified organic ingredients and made with all food grade ingredients, so you don’t have to wipe it off before nursing. Even though it’s a small container, it lasts a very long time. The small size is really convenient for tucking into a diaper bag or bringing it anywhere on the go.

Soothing Baby Bottom Wash | $9.95
My friend is very eco-conscious so she chooses not to use disposable baby wipes. I got her this bottom wash and also several soft cloth wipes that can be thrown into the washing machine. This bottom wash contains organic aloe to sooth skin and also has botanical extracts to clean. It’s all natural, hypoallergenic, is made without sulfates, phthalates, parabens, fragrances, and dyes.

Diaper Rash Cream | $9.95
This is the only product I sent that she felt was unnecessary. Which is kind of funny, since I thought this would be the most useful item! It turns out that it’s pretty similar to the healing balm, but the healing balm actually works even better for diaper rash! She likes the slimmer packaging of this cream, so she said she keeps this one in her diaper bag and the healing balm at home.

Organic Healing Balm | $12.95
This isn’t specific to baby, since I keep several tubes of it in my own household. But it’s my favorite product that Honest makes and I think everyone should try it. I sent it to my friend and it’s actually her favorite product too! She said it’s a miracle worker for diaper rash! She’s started using it for herself and her husband as well–it’s perfect for cuts, scrapes, blisters, etc. I’ve even used it as a substitute for lip balm before and had great results.

The Honest Company Baby Essentials Bundle Review plus Promo Code

The total value of my bundles comes to $62.75. I’m very happy with the value, since it’s about 40% off the sticker price for all the items! And my friend really enjoyed all her goodies. I now have a list of things to buy for future baby showers!

I say this with every review that I do for Honest: the essentials bundle is always a good deal if you’re willing to do the math and if you want some of the pricier items. If you only want 5 items that are on the cheaper side (wipes, dryer cloths, soap, etc.), you’re better off buying them individually. If you’re getting the expensive items like the healing balm and belly balm, adding it to a bundle is the way to go. I like to make all 5 of my bundle items the more expensive stuff, since I only pay $35.95 for the bundle. Then I add the cheaper items as my add-ons because I get 25% off. Again, if you want to check out Honest and get your first bundle, use promo code INVITED10 for $10 off!

POPSUGAR Must Have May 2017 Box Review

Back on track with May boxes! I’m always amazed by how much I look forward to getting my POPSUGAR box each month. I have been subscribed for 3 years now and it’s still one of my favorite subscriptions. They consistently deliver amazing value and the curation is always thoughtful and on trend. I have discovered so many new brands and products that I love!

POPSUGAR Must Have is a subscription service that sends a variety of items for women that are curated by the POPSUGAR editors. Items typically include food, beauty, home, among other miscellaneous things. Each month is $39.99/month, but you can use the code REFER5 to get $5 off your first month.

POPSUGAR Must Have May 2017 Box Review

Samantha Faye Inspirational Cuff | $60.00
First up is a silver cuff that is exclusively designed for POPSUGAR. It comes in a little velvet pouch that is great for gifting. While this is the highest value item in the box, it’s actually my least favorite item. The phrasing “Be good, Do good, Feel good” isn’t for me and I prefer gold jewelry. But luckily I have a friend who would really enjoy this and I can pass it along to her.

It fits very well on me and is comfortable to wear. The quality looks excellent and the cuff feels sturdy. I wish we had received one of Samantha Faye’s regular designs instead of this exclusive one, since I think her actual line of inspirational cuffs is more my style. They usually have just a single phrase like “courage” or “believe”, which I prefer more.

I think this a very versatile piece. It would be excellent for layering with other bracelets but is also simple and chic and can be worn alone. I know my friend will be really excited to receive this! I love that even when something doesn’t suit my style, everything I get from this box is easily giftable.

Lipstick Queen Mornin’ Sunshine | $25.00
I was really confused when I first opened this lipstick because the yellow color was so surprising! But after reading more about it and trying it on, I love it. The yellow color transforms into a sheer coral once you apply it and it’s super flattering. It reminds me of Dior Addict LipGlow (one of my holy grail items!) because of the way the color morphs to match your skin tone and how moisturizing it is. I am so thrilled with discovering this product and this brand as a whole.

Tocca Montauk Candle | $20.00
Whenever I see Tocca in a box I get really excited. I love their scents so much! I wish I had purchased a second box so I can have two of these candles. The salt air cucumber scent is so fresh and light–it’s perfect for summer. It reminds me of enjoying delicious cocktails on the beach! Even though this is just a 3 ounce candle, it has a burn time of about 30 hours.

Swing Design Essex Frame | $13.00
I was very surprised to see the low retail value of this frame! I expected it to be more expensive since it looks really elegant with the sleek silver edge and thick white mat. It’s versatile enough to go with any home decor. I have a lot of pictures that I never remember to purchase frames for, so this is perfect! And at such a low price point I will probably be purchasing more of them so I can have a set. Another great find!

The frame also comes in a box so it’s ready to be gifted.

Southern Culture Strawberry Muffin Mix | $8.00
Always happy to see baking mixes! I love to bake but I’m also rather lazy, so a nice baking mix like this is the best of both worlds. This mix requires whole milk and 2 eggs. I haven’t found an occasion to bake these yet, but from the reviews it sounds like you might need to add extra sugar or fresh strawberries to help bring out the strawberry flavor. I’m reserving judgement for now since I haven’t baked it myself, but I do hope they turn out okay!

Nicely Noted Card Collection | $17.50
When I first saw the cards I was so excited! I adore letterpress everything and had been eyeing Nicely Noted for a while now. I was really excited to get 3 beautiful letterpress cards, but I was disappointed to discover that these are not actual letterpress cards. It seems really pointless to include cards that are not what a subscriber would actually receive. These are just your typical printed cards, sort of like something you could buy in a boxed set at Target.

I also really dislike the Nicely Noted logo on the backs of the cards. I always prefer it when subscription box items do not include a logo of the actual subscription that they came from, since it feels like advertisement and it seems tacky to me. In this case, I love buying card from independent small studios and it feels weird to have a Nicely Noted logo slapped on the back.

Overall it was a great box for me! The value comes to $143.49 which is fantastic, and pretty standard for POPSUGAR boxes. I loved the frame, candle, and lipstick! They are some of my favorite subscription box items this year! If the cards had been actual letterpress cards, this would have been a complete home run for me.

Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box March 2017 Review plus $15 Off Coupon!

I absolutely love my Emma & Chloe ring from last month, so I was beyond excited when they offered to send me another box to review. I have gotten so many compliments on the ring and wear it all the time! The quality is truly excellent–I’ve washed my hands while wearing the ring and bumped it against things by accident and the finish hasn’t rubbed off or shown any scratches at all.

And for today only, Emma & Chloe is offering a $15 off promo code! Use code THANKYOU2 to get $15 off your first month. If you do the month to month option, that’s only $20 for a gorgeous piece of high quality jewelry!

This box ships inside of a padded envelope so the black box is perfect upon arrival. That’s a great little detail that I really appreciate. I love keeping and reusing sturdy boxes like this! They’re perfect for gifting or storing little knick knacks. The packaging of Emma and Chloe’s jewelry is beautiful–I adore the little illustrations inside the box!

Each month comes with a little mini magazine that gives more information about the featured designer and other articles about France. The magazine is thoughtfully written and contains entertaining articles, including a fun quiz at the end! I love it when subscription boxes put extra effort into their informational inserts. It really makes the box feel so much more special and well curated!

I love that they feature so much information about Paris! In my previous shipment the magazine had a list of the best coffee shops in the city. Reading these lists gives me some serious wanderlust!

Each month comes with a postcard that features a picture of the jewelry. Last time the picture felt really promotional so I didn’t feel comfortable sending it to a friend. It just felt like too much of an advertisement. But this time I actually think the picture is pretty and wouldn’t mind sending it! I guess the difference is that this time the picture seems to have more of a narrative. I appreciate the time that Emma & Chloe takes to style their jewelry for these photos, and think this is a great picture that evokes the sense of spring.

Tassia Canellis Necklace from the Twenties Collection | $59.00
Unfortunately, my necklace arrived like this! I could tell that it was a really delicate necklace so I really took my time to untangle it without damaging anything. Emma & Chloe always sends a certificate of authenticity with each piece of jewelry, which also includes care information and more details about the materials. I love that this month features freshwater cultured pearls! I love pearl jewelry!

About 15 minutes later…yay!

Look how pretty! I love delicate gold jewelry so this is perfect for me! It is approximately 21.5 inches long. The pearls are so dainty and add a whimsical touch to the piece. I can picture wearing this with almost every outfit! It’s a great everyday piece but also sophisticated enough to dress up for a night out or special occasion.

Even the tag at the back of the necklace is cute! The lobster clasp is strong and well made, and the jump ring is large enough to easily clip on yourself. I know this probably sounds pathetic, but I think I have really bad coordination. I always struggle so much with putting necklaces on myself when the jump ring is too small! Please tell me I’m not the only one.

Anyways, I’m totally obsessed with this dainty little necklace. I think it would look amazing layered and also simple and chic on its own. As the weather gets steadily warmer here, I definitely have spring on my mind. The pearl and gold combination feels so seasonally appropriate! It looks and feels breezy and soft. Perfect with a sundress!

The only thing I would do differently is the packaging of the necklace. It’s so delicate that it tangles easily and the way it was put in the pouch for shipping really didn’t make it feel very special. When I took mine off, I wrapped it around the certificate to prevent tangles in the future, and think this would have been an easy way for Emma & Chloe to mail them out! In the future, I hope all the necklaces are packed in a way that takes tangles into consideration. I was so nervous that I might damage the necklace when I was working out the knots! And you really should not have to spend 15 minutes untangling a necklace after you purchase it.

Okay, I really love this subscription! I think it’s a great “quality over quantity” sort of subscription. You get one well made authentic French piece of jewelry every month instead of several cheap costume pieces, which is amazing for building a high quality collection. If the ring I got last month was any indication, these pieces will look stunning even when you wash them by accident.

I personally feel like the value is great as well. It’s not easy getting products from some of these smaller French designers because of shipping costs, customs, and overall availability. For example, I was not able to find this particular necklace online. I did find this designer on a couple sites, but there was a very limited selection of her items. This necklace is more unique compared to a lot of my other necklaces (Dogeared, J. Crew, etc.) because it’s not something that is available at a big chain store or anything.

If you’re looking for a great subscription to gift, this one would be a wonderful candidate! The packaging is so beautiful, the magazines are interesting to read, and the entire presentation feels thoughtful.

Don’t forget: Emma & Chloe is offering a $15 off promo code! Use code THANKYOU2 to get $15 off your first month. If you do the month to month option, that’s only $20 for a gorgeous piece of high quality jewelry! This offer ends tonight, so grab it now!

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

Last month was light on subscription boxes for me but it looks like I’ll be having an amazing March! The February Little Lace Box got pushed back to March and for some reason I also received my Peaches and Petals box super late.

Peaches and Petals is a monthly subscription service that sends out vintage-modern items and beauty goods. For $19.99 a month (includes shipping), you’ll receive a mix of jewelry, fashion accessories, lifestyle goods, and beauty samples. Usually each month has a theme for the box, and the theme for February is “Made with Love”.

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

For a love themed box, it seems rather disappointing to receive it so far after Valentine’s Day. I’m not sure if my box was an outlier or if they all went out later this month, but the timing is unfortunate.

Pizza Ceramic Coasters | $4.00 (?)
These are a little cheesy (see what I did there?) but also pretty cute. Totally embarrassing nerd confession: my husband and I always do a pizza and pie date night at home on “Pi Day” every March 14th. We usually get our favorite pizza delivered, pick up a pie from this awesome local bakery, crack open a couple beers and binge watch nerdy movies. Totally silly but I look forward to it every year! I think these will be a cute little addition to our tradition. Or just any pizza date night in general.

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

The coaster itself is a heavy ceramic and the backing is made of cork. My one minor complaint is that the cork is off center for both coasters, but since I don’t plan to use these for everyday use I don’t really mind.

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

Come Hither Bath Bomb |  $3.00 (?)
Guessing on the price for this bath bomb since I wasn’t able to find it anywhere. Bath bombs are always welcome in this household! I love using them but have a hard time getting myself to actually buy them. They always feel like such a “splurge” item to me! Though I will admit to treating myself to Lush bath bombs every now and then after a really rough work week…

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

I like that it comes in a box so you can easily gift it. The scent is strong but not cloying and I’m excited to use it! The size of the bath bomb itself is pretty generous–about 4 ounces.

Look Good, Feel Good: 206 Beauty and Fitness Secrets by Mariah Bear | $25.00
Although I’m glad to see this book isn’t on clearance on Amazon, I don’t think it would actually retail for the full $25 either. It’s an older book from 2013 and I see lots of books just like this for sale at my local Barnes and Nobles for around $5-$8.

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

The book itself is fairly interesting. I like that there’s plenty of high quality pictures that illustrate step by step stuff. There’s sections about massages and spa treatments that look fun and easy to DIY.

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

There’s also exercises and stretches. I personally prefer videos of workouts, but if you enjoy wellness books this would be a nice one to flip through.

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

Sprigs Hot Collars | $18.95
Okay, this item is really confusing to me. It’s a fleece collar scarf thing that keeps your neck warm. But I guess I’m wondering why you wouldn’t just use an actual scarf? I can definitely see my dad buying this and getting really excited about it. Except he’s almost 60, so I doubt he’s the target audience for Peaches and Petals. Just seems like a total miss to me. But on the bright side, this would be a great item to donate. Anything that can provide warmth is very welcome for homeless shelters–socks, fleece anything, blankets, gloves, etc. I’ll add this to my donation pile, I know it will get to someone who actually needs it!

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

Wilton Heart Cookie Pop Pan | $3.00 (?)
And finally, a Valentine’s Day item. I know these normally retail for more than my estimated value, but I literally just saw this on clearance at Michael’s last week. I own a lot of Wilton products and their quality is good, so it’s great that we’re getting a brand name product. And it’s pretty unique. I’ve definitely never received anything like this from any other subscription. It’s a cookie pan designed to make cookie “pops”.

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

These are really big cookie molds! (Hand for scale.) I would have been happy to get this if I received it well before Valentine’s Day. It would have motivated me to actually bake some treats for my friends and coworkers. But now it just feels like a clearance item that I would have to store in my kitchen for a whole year.

Peaches and Petals February 2017 Review

Bottom line: pretty disappointing. If the timing had been better, I think I would have enjoyed most of the box. If I had gotten this box a week before Valentine’s Day the cookie pan would have been my favorite item. But now that it’s so far past Valentine’s Day, it feels like really cheap discounted junk.

While I still like the coasters and the bath bomb, it makes up a tiny portion of the overall value. If I had paid $20 for this box I would be so let down. The book feels outdated and the value seems inflated, and the collar thing is just an odd choice. It really doesn’t fit the theme at all and also feels like a clearance aisle product.

I hope in the future the boxes have better curation. This is probably my least favorite month so far, which is really sad because I actually liked January’s and had been hoping for a very good year.
