Harrison Blake Apparel Subscription April 2017 Box Review plus Promo Code!

I was thrilled to see that Harrison Blake sent me the April box to review! My husband always gets so excited when he gets a box all to himself, and it’s really endearing to see him excited about subscription boxes too.

The Harrison Blake Monthly Subscription is a $25.00 per month subscription (shipping included) that focuses on men’s fashion accessories. Each box is curated around a particular look and color scheme, and includes 1 necktie and 4 additional accessories. Since all the items are meant coordinate together for a cohesive outfit, it’s an easy cheat for the guy who wants to be stylish without having to think too hard about his outfit. All the items are exclusive, so if you like a particular item you would have to subscribe to receive it.

Right now they have a promo code for new subscribers. Use code SEASON to get $15 off your first month! That brings the cost down to only $10, which is a really good deal.

All the items are exclusive to the subscription, so I’ll be using the prices that are listed on the information card. However, I do want to say that you should take these values with a grain of salt. Since the company makes their own products, they can put whatever value they want for each item. I’ve always found the prices to be overinflated for the quality. I’m not saying this box is not worth the cost, just that I personally don’t believe this box should be valued at $110 like the information card states.

Striped Necktie| $30.00
Every month the main item is a tie that the rest of the box revolves around. They tend to keep the ties seasonal, which I appreciate. In the winter boxes we’ve received thicker textures and darker colors. This one feels very summer and coastal to me. I can really picture my husband wearing this to a nice outdoor wedding. He can’t wear colors this bright at work, but I think it will get a good amount of use at all the weddings we have to go to this year!

IMG_0715

The shape of the tie is classic on the slimmer side. Not quite a skinny tie but skinny enough to be trendy. I hate the look of the really wide ties! My husband has a thinner frame so he looks great with slim ties and he likes the style of this one!

IMG_0716

The back always comes with a Harrison Blake tag, but we’ve found them to be very easy to remove if you wish to do so. My husband was getting annoyed that he had to thread the tie through both the loop and the tag so we just removed the tag easily.

Cotton Pocket Square |$20.00
It seems that each month you’ll also receive a pocket square to go with the tie. We rarely purchase pocket squares so it’s really nice that they send a matching one each month. I wish this one were a bit more neutral so it could work with other ties as well, but I do admit the colors are a perfect match to the tie.

IMG_0718

Doesn’t it feel really nautical?

IMG_0719

Here’s the tie and pocket square together. They go together beautifully! Just looking at this picture has me dreaming of a summer vacation to Nantucket. This combination would look amazing with a navy colored suit.

IMG_0720

Aviator Sunglasses | $30.00
This is one of the items that makes me question the value stated on the card. Fashion sunglasses like this can be found for really cheap, even brand name ones! The quality of the frames, the lenses, and the case for this pair feels closer to $10 or so.

IMG_0710

With that being said, I really like these aviators. They look great on my husband and he likes how light they are. The shape is classic and flattering for all face shapes. The nose pads are comfortable and adjustable. I think adding the sunglasses was a smart choice for this month! Definitely adds to the summer-y feel of the overall box. I know we always keep several cheap pairs around the house and in the car because we’re both prone to losing/breaking sunglasses.

IMG_0711

White Rosette Lapel Pin | $15.00
I wish this had been a different item since my husband never uses lapel pins, but I understand that’s a personal preference and other people may love using them. I like the fact that it’s white, making it easy to use with lots of outfits. But the quality of this is quite low. It’s another item that has me questioning the sticker value. Even in the picture you can see a loose thread.

IMG_0712

Gold Collar Stays | $15.00
Love the felt case that these collar stays came in! I wish they had just sent a bunch of the cases so I could store all the other collar stays we have in them. Collar stays are another item that we seem to lose a lot, so it’s nice to have more. They have a decent weight to them and feel of good quality.

IMG_0713

Air Freshener | ??
As a bonus item, they also sent a car air freshener. I like that it was a practical extra and tastefully done. I used this in my car and enjoyed the scent. It doesn’t last very long, but was quite pleasant for about a week. In the future I would love to see cute little extras like this!

IMG_0714

I think this is my favorite month so far, because the curation felt really on point and my husband will use almost all of the items. If you have summer weddings on your horizon and want to get some accessories for your date, consider picking up one of these boxes! The color combination is really cute. And since it’s red, white, and blue, it’s also perfect for 4th of July!

Overall I think this subscription is great if you enjoy dressing up/wearing suits and want to build your accessories collection. It’s also more ideal for those who are interested in exploring a bit with their fashion choices. My husband doesn’t get to wear anything remotely exciting to work, so most of the items we get from Harrison Blake is for weekends or special events only. However, if you’re someone who loves trying new colors and mixing patterns and textures, I think you would really enjoy this!

Harrison Blake Apparel Subscription February 2017 Box Review plus Promo Code!

First February box for review! After reviewing the November Harrison Blake box, they graciously sent me another box and also some promo codes to share with everyone. My husband was really excited to get another box just for him (I openly admit to stealing lots of the Bespoke Post boxes we buy “for him”) and has already been wearing the tie to work!

Use code SEASON or NEWYEAR to get $15 off your first month! That brings the cost down to only $10, which is pretty incredible. It’s a great budget-friendly Valentine’s Day gift!

Each month comes with a little card detailing the contents and retail values. I’ve found some of the values to be pretty inflated, but since all the items are exclusive to this box I’ll be using their prices.

Harrison Blake Block Pattern Necktie | $25.00
Gorgeous pattern! I love how classic the colors are, but the thick texture makes it more interesting compared to your typical silk tie. It seems like a great fit for winter! My husband has already worn it to work and it goes well with almost any outfit.

The backs of the ties always comes with two loops (is there a technical term for these?) for the tie to go through, but the Harrison Blake one is very easy to remove. It’s sewn on with just one stitch on each side of the tag, which leads me to believe it’s intended to be removed.

It’s really a beautiful tie! I think just the tie makes this box worth the money, since I would have been fine paying the full retail price of this tie ($25), which happens to be the full cost of the box.

Here’s a close up of the texture, shown with the tie bar that came in the box as well.

Harrison Blake Navy Blue Tie Bar | $15.00
This is a pretty basic tie bar, which is a staple to have. Oddly my husband didn’t actually have a navy one, so I’m glad he has one now! Navy is such a versatile color, it’s a great pick for a box like this. I have tons of navy in my closet so it’s nice to get something that will complement my outfit as well! The tie bar looks lovely paired with the tie (pictured above).

Harrison Blake Cotton Pocket Square | $20.00
This is the only item that I feel is a bit out of place in the box, mostly because it’s so thin and feels more suited for summer to me. The white linen paired with the navy triangles (which reminds me of sailboats!) would look great in warmer weather. For winter I was expecting a darker color or something with more texture/weight.

My husband and I are attending an outdoor wedding in May and he’s going to be wearing a navy suit, and I think this will be perfect. He has a very small collection of pocket squares and this knocks one item off his shopping list!

Harrison Blake Winter Beanie | $25.00
This is one of the items that I felt was very overinflated. It’s a basic beanie, the kind you can get at Target for around $5-$8 or so. It’s a useful item to include, but I just think the value is totally off. My husband is constantly losing gloves and hats (not that we even need that many here in Houston!), so I’ve learned to stop buying him the really nice stuff. This will work well for the one week a year it gets below freezing here, haha!

Soapstone Whiskey Rocks | $8.00
Loved that they included this cute and practical little extra! You put these rocks in the freezer and use them in lieu of ice cubes to chill your whiskey without diluting it. We rarely actually use whiskey rocks in this household but for some reason I love having them.

Harrison Blake Apparel Subscription February 2017 Box Review plus Promo Code!

They’re nice to have around when we have guests who drink whiskey–they’re always pleasantly surprised!

Harrison Blake Apparel Subscription February 2017 Box Review plus Promo Code!

For me this was a really wonderful box! The colors are more neutral compared the November box and I enjoyed the little extra items like the whiskey rocks and the tie bar. The value comes out to $93.00, which again, I find overinflated. But you can’t deny that this is clearly worth more than $25! With the coupon SEASON or NEWYEAR, you could get this box for only $10, which is pretty much a complete steal. My husband was really happy with everything and he’s already getting good use out of the items.

My verdict is the same as last time: I think this would be a really fun subscription service for someone who wears a lot of suits at work but also enjoys dressing up outside of work. My husband has to look nice at his job, but the instant he’s done it’s T-shirt and jeans all the way. If we got this subscription every month, I doubt he would be able to use everything. For him, this specific box was great because it’s classic and conservative enough for his strict work dress code. But some of their boxes are more casual or colorful and he would not be able to wear the tie or pocket square. Nonetheless, if you’re even the slightest bit curious I would strongly recommend trying the subscription with the $15 off promotion! It’s really such an amazing deal!

Harrison Blake Apparel Subscription November Box Review

Eek, totally behind again! Happy first day of December, everyone! I just have a couple reviews to wrap up from November–Thanksgiving was so much craziness I’m still playing catchup with my to-do list. Anyways, yay for more men’s subscription boxes! My better half sometimes gets a little jealous of all my awesome boxes, so it’s great that he gets to try something too. (We still get Bespoke Post boxes but I have a bad habit of claiming the contents for myself!) It’s always a good day when a men’s subscription service reaches out to offer a box in exchange for a review!

Harrison Blake Apparel Subscription November Box Review

The November box definitely feels cold-weather appropriate. I like the rich burgundy color and the interesting textures. Since all the items are exclusive to Harrison Blake, the value for each item is stated on the information card as “average retail price”, which I have found to be pretty fair.

Knit Block NeckTie | $30.00
Perfect for winter! The knit texture and the dark colors feel very seasonally appropriate. The bottom of the tie ends in a straight line, unlike traditional ties that end in a V shape. I do feel like this is a more bold choice to send in a subscription service–not everyone can wear a tie like this for work. My husband works as a physician and when he’s not in scrubs he’s only allowed to wear very classic business attire. My brother works at a university and also said he would be not able to wear this. I think this would be great for someone who likes wearing ties outside of work, since if your workplace requires neckties it probably means more traditional styles.

A closeup of the texture! It feels well made and the knit has a good weight to it. The tie is 100% polyester.

Exclusive label in the back. The part of the tie that actually goes around your neck is backed with a black satin fabric, so it feels smooth against your skin. Love that attention to detail!

Car Tie Clip | $25.00
My favorite item in the box! It’s very sturdy and the construction quality is great. I love interesting tie clips! It’s a great way to add a little personality while keeping your look very polished and professional. My brother would love this, so I will be sending it to him.

Microfiber Pocket Square | $15.00
A perfect match for the necktie that came in this box. It’s got a classic dot pattern on one side and a more bold pattern on the reverse side. Even though my husband can’t wear the tie from this month at work, the pocket square is something he can definitely use! He recently got a new charcoal suit and the colors go together beautifully. I think burgundy will go with any suit color, so it’s a great versatile choice for the colder months!

The reverse is more bold, but nothing crazy. Feels very timeless and elegant.

Burgundy Stripe Socks | $8.00
Who doesn’t like getting new socks? I think this is my husband’s favorite part of the box, mostly because he’s always really excited to get crew socks. Not sure what these are made of, but they feel well constructed. I’ve put them through the washer twice already and they haven’t shrunk or pilled. The elastic is also holding up very well.

Harrison Blake Travel/Shoe Bag | $6.00
We are constantly losing shoe bags in this household, so I always welcome new ones. The quality isn’t great on this one, but it’s fine for getting the job done. I do wish the value didn’t count towards the total for the box, since the logo is so large that it feels like a promotional item.

Harrison Blake Apparel Subscription November Box Review

Overall I think it was a solid box. I love the colors and the variation in items! It’s just unfortunate that the big ticket item didn’t really work for my husband’s needs. The total value comes to $84.00, which I think is fair. Since everything is small batch and exclusive to the box, I can see these values being accurate.

However, I wish I could get more details about each item on the information card. Besides the tie, I have no idea what materials anything is made of. It’s also all unbranded and doesn’t come with packaging, which I think sort of lowers the perceived value. It would have been nice to be able to easily gift some of the items that my husband can’t use, but since it’s unbranded it doesn’t feel substantial enough for a gift.

I think this would be a good subscription service for someone who wears a lot of suits at work, and also likes wearing business or business casual clothing outside of work. If you like to live in T-shirt and jeans once you get off work (like my husband), I doubt you’ll get to use all the items in the box each month. We would only subscribe if they implemented a system like Bespoke Post in which you get to preview the box and skip a shipment if it doesn’t appeal to you.
