POPSUGAR Must Have July 2017 Box Review

Happy to be reviewing another POPSUGAR box today! I skipped reviewing last month’s box because I was out of the country, but it just feels right to be back on track. I’ve been subscribed to POPSUGAR for over 3 years now and at this point it’s part of my routine!

POPSUGAR Must Have is a subscription service that sends a variety of items for women that are curated by the POPSUGAR editors. Items typically include food, beauty, home, among other miscellaneous things. Each month is $39.99/month, but you can use the code REFER5 to get $5 off your first month.

Ocean Tribe Kilim Towel by Turkish-T | $49.00
This is possibly my favorite item from POPSUGAR this year! I love the Turkish-T brand a lot and I’m always excited to see it included in a box. Their towels are absorbent but dry very quickly and get softer and softer the more you use them. They’re my absolute favorite towels to bring to the pool or beach since they’re so compact and dry much faster than regular towels.

IMG_1452

The pattern is so cute! The texture of this towel is thicker and softer than previous towels that I have received from Turkish-T in the past, but it’s still significantly thinner than your standard beach towel. I think this could double as a throw in the winter months! I love the quality and design of this towel so much that I already bought a second one to have a matching set. Just this towel alone covers the cost of the box for me!

IMG_1453

Supergoop! Super Power Sunscreen Mousse SPF 50 | $19.00
I feel like every summer box sends out sunscreen, but I use so much of it year round that it’s a great time for me to stock up. This one by Supergoop is really unique because it’s a mousse! This was my first time trying a mousse sunscreen and I’m officially a fan. It’s ultra light, covers well and evenly, and doesn’t leave behind a greasy feeling. The size of the bottle is quite compact as well, making it perfect for throwing into your bag for on-the-go application. Since it’s water resistant for 80 minutes and has a high SPF, it’s perfect for pool days! I’ll definitely repurchase from Sephora when I run out!

IMG_1454

Ban.do Sip Sip Tumbler | $14.00
When I first opened my box, I figured this would be my least favorite item. I usually use water bottles instead of tumblers and I already have so many water bottles! I also really dislike the design and color. But you know what’s weird? I tried it once just to test it out and now I actually use it every day.

IMG_1459

I find myself drinking more water with a tumbler! Since there’s no cap to unscrew, I drink more water absentmindedly throughout the day. I also love that it makes drinking water while driving so easy. Since I live in Houston, I do quite a bit of driving and the straw is very convenient. I don’t know why I hadn’t thought about this before! I still think the bright red design is rather ugly but it’s totally functional and I only use it in my car and at the office. I love that POPSUGAR consistently introduces me to products that I never would have bought for myself, but once I have it I discover that I really like it!

IMG_1460

Tarte Cosmetics Lights, Camera, Splashes Waterproof Mascara | $23.00
The regular version of this mascara is one of my favorites, so I was thrilled to see this waterproof one in my box! In Houston’s humid summers it’s best to wear waterproof mascara if you want it to last all day. I like to wear a waterproof top layer of mascara (Anastasia makes an amazing one!) over my regular mascara during the summer. Oddly I’m not a huge fan of this Tarte waterproof formula. It doesn’t seem to add as much volume as the regular version and clumps much more. I’ll still end up using all of it, but will not be purchasing more.

IMG_1455

Sisters of Los Angeles California Fireplace Matches | $10.00
Whoa, these matches are huge! If you’re someone who constantly misplaces matches like me, this solves the problem. Like 100% solves that problem.

IMG_1457

These fireplace matches are about 10 inches long (pictures in my hand for scale) which is perfect for lighting bonfires, fireplaces (duh), deep pillar candles, BBQ pits, etc. I love having fancy matches in the house so I’m very happy to receive them. It’s definitely not something I would have purchased for myself!

IMG_1458

Snyder’s of Hanover Wholey Cheese! Smoked Gouda | $3.69
I wasn’t a fan of the smoked gouda flavor, but my husband thought they were delicious! If the smoke flavor wasn’t so intense, I would have enjoyed them as well. The texture of the crackers is really light and crisp, and the cheese flavor is really strong. I’m glad he got to enjoy something from this box! He always looks forward to the snack that comes every month in POPSUGAR!

POPSUGAR Must Have July 2017 Box Review

I loved this month! Every single item is useful and I completely adore the towel and sunscreen! The tumbler is helping me drink more water, which my husband thinks is the best part of this box. Followed closely by the cheese crackers that he finished in one sitting.  The total value comes out to $118.69, pretty standard for POPSUGAR. I really can’t think of any other subscription box that even comes close to providing the level of curation, value, and consistency that POPSUGAR does! Even though they obviously have their fair share of flaws (mostly slow shipping in my experience), I doubt I will ever unsubscribe. It always brings me happiness to see it on my doorstep every month!

Peaches and Petals March 2017 Review

Not sure what has been going on with Peaches and Petals lately, but it seems like their shipping schedule has been pushed further back in the month. I received my March box a week ago, on March 30th. The February box also arrived very late last month.

Peaches and Petals is a monthly subscription service that sends out vintage-modern items and beauty goods. For $19.99 a month (includes shipping), you’ll receive a mix of jewelry, fashion accessories, lifestyle goods, and beauty samples. Usually each month has a theme for the box, and the theme for March is “Hello Spring”. I think that’s a pretty generic theme that doesn’t feel that exciting. I would actually consider March to be a travel-themed box!

IMG_0773

DCWV Lifebook Planner | $16.99
This is a hardcover binder that functions as a daily journal. Mine was defective upon arrival and the binder rings don’t stay closed, so I’m questioning the quality of this. On the other hand, I think it’s a really cute product. It feels on the young side, so I think it would make a cute gift for a middle schooler.

IMG_0774

The pages have lots of patterns and feels very “scrapbook”, so I’ll probably end up using the pages as regular scrapbook paper. The hardcover jacket also features pockets so you can keep notes, postcards, and other stuff in them.

IMG_0775

Hello Breath Spray Mojito Mint | $3.39
I remember getting this exact spray about 3 years ago in a college-themed box. At the time I didn’t care for it, but that’s mostly because I personally don’t use breath spray very often. If you do like breath spray, this one sounds great–who doesn’t like mojito flavor?? I could also see this being a good item to bring on a flight. For long flights I always pack a toothbrush and a little tube of toothpaste so I can brush my teeth before I land (seriously, try it! You feel so much more refreshed afterwards!) but if that’s too much hassle for you I think breath spray could give you a similar effect.

IMG_0776

Sprigs 3 Pocket Carry All Belt | $28.00
I was most excited for this item! This is a 3 pocket belt that can hold money, keys, or even a phone if it’s small enough. (For reference, my iPhone 6 fit with plenty of room to spare.) My husband has a similar product and I had been interested in picking one up for myself, so I am very happy to get this! It is so useful for traveling, especially if you have any concern for pick pockets. He wears his a little higher at his waist, under his shirt. It’s super secure and perfect for essentials like emergency money, passport, and hotel key.

IMG_0780

I wish this came in a smaller size, since it’s too big for me. But I plan to take it to my tailor and get her to restitch the strap and shorten it. It should only cost a couple of bucks, but that’s a price I’m happy to pay! The fabric of this belt is great quality so I’m very impressed we got this in a $20 box!

IMG_0781

Yes To Cucumbers Gentle Milk Cleanser | $6.18
Pleasantly surprised to find this brand in my box. I really like the Yes To line and buy their products from Target pretty often. Yes To Blueberries wipes are awesome, by the way! Anyways, I like this brand because they use natural ingredients, are great for sensitive skin, and are certified cruelty free. I’ve only used this face cleanser twice so far but I already know I plan to finish the bottle. The scent is light and fresh and the cleanser is really gentle and great for daily use.

IMG_0777

Stephanie Corfee Elephant | $10.49
This was really unexpected, but I totally love it. What an adorable little elephant! I think the design is just so sweet and cute. I have no idea how this ties into the theme but I think it’s so cute that I don’t even care. Already have it on our bookshelf and it makes me smile when I see it!

IMG_0778

Here’s a little more detail of the printing.

IMG_0779

Overall I really enjoyed this box. It’s infinitely better than last month’s box, and probably the best I’ve seen from Peaches and Petals in a while! The value is also excellent, totaling $65.05. That’s more than triple the cost of the box. I hope all the future boxes continue in this direction!

POPSUGAR Must Have March 2017 Box Review

Spring is definitely in the air here in Houston! We have notoriously hot and humid summers so when the weather is nice we definitely take full advantage of it. I’ve been trying to pack all my outdoor activities into these next few weeks before it gets super hot again! Lucky for me the March POPSUGAR Must Have box seems to be perfect for outdoor activities and I have already used everything from the box at least twice!

POPSUGAR Must Have is a subscription service that sends a variety of items for women that are curated by the POPSUGAR editors. Items typically include food, beauty, home, among other miscellaneous things. Each month is $39.99/month, but you can use the code REFER5 to get $5 off your first month.

POPSUGAR Must Have March 2017 Box Review

Sunny Life Eco Lunch Box in Watermelon | $18.00
First up, this super adorable watermelon lunch box! I have been trying to find more excuses to use it because I love it so much. It’s perfect for bringing snacks and sandwiches to work. I have also brought it to a few outdoor picnics with friends and everyone comments on how cute it is. It’s dishwasher safe (always a must for me!) but unfortunately not microwave safe.

POPSUGAR Must Have March 2017 Box Review

Look at how pretty the colors are! If there’s one thing I would change about this lunch box it’s making it completely leak proof. Due to the way the lid closes, it would definitely leak if you were putting any liquid in the box and had it on its side. For a watermelon patterned box it would have been nice to be able to put watermelon inside!

POPSUGAR Must Have March 2017 Box Review

Kate Spade New York Photo Album | $20.00
Wow, a Kate Spade item! I so rarely see Kate Spade stuff in boxes, and I love that POPSUGAR was able to include one. I am such a big fan of Kate Spade everything, so this is a slam dunk for me. I know some people think photo albums are outdated, but I still love them! There’s something really nice about being able to hold a tangible album, manually flip through the photos, and feel the paper between your fingers. I used to love going through old family photos with my parents. It’s actually still one of our Christmas traditions! We pull out all our old albums and laugh at all the silly baby pictures, bad haircuts, and questionable fashion choices.

POPSUGAR Must Have March 2017 Box Review

The inside pages are your standard 4″ x 6″ photo sleeves.

POPSUGAR Must Have March 2017 Box Review

The linen wrap on the cover is beautiful! The polka dot print is classic Kate Spade and the cream/black color combination is sure to work with almost any interior decor. I can’t wait to fill this album with pictures from our vacations! The album holds 80 4″ x 6″ pictures.

POPSUGAR Must Have March 2017 Box Review

Stephanie Johnson Camera Crossbody Bag | $45.00
This was sort of a “hate it or love it” item in the box. I saw lots of negative reviews, but I actually think it’s pretty useful. I’ll admit that it’s not fashion forward or anything, but it’s a great waterproof bag that I can bring to the beach, to an amusement park, or to a sporting event. Lots of the stadiums around here ask that you bring see-through purses to sporting events for security reasons, and this fits the bill perfectly. And for a plastic bag, it’s well made!

POPSUGAR Must Have March 2017 Box Review

It fits a ton of stuff (shown with photo album and highlighter inside) and has pockets for additional items. Here in Houston we love our water parks, and I will definitely bring this purse next time! I think this is super useful for someone looking for a cheap waterproof bag that you don’t need to worry about. I won’t bat an eye if I get this scuffed up, dirty, or wet. I can’t say the same for all my other purses (case in point: that time I cried at a Six Flags because a little kid sprayed sunscreen all over my new Kate Spade crossbody)!

POPSUGAR Must Have March 2017 Box Review

Thrive Cosmetics Brilliant Eye Brightener in Stella | $24.00
Okay, I was seriously just looking at an ad for this highlighter on Facebook! They seem to do a lot of sponsored posts and one of my friends had shared it. She swears by this stuff so I was really happy to get one in my POPSUGAR box to try for myself. So far I have only tried this twice and it goes on super smooth and is easy to blend. The champagne color is subtle and natural. Only time will tell if this is a holy grail item for me, but I have to say so far it’s looking really promising! Really happy with this discovery!

POPSUGAR Must Have March 2017 Box Review

Smashmallows in Cinnamon Churro | $4.00
Marshmallows!!! Best snack we’ve gotten from POPSUGAR in a while! This brand has the cutest packaging ever, don’t you think? I love the illustration style. They also have a ton of different flavors that sound absolutely delicious: strawberries and cream, mint chocolate chip, lemon chia, and lots more! The box included a promo code MUSTHAVE for 20% off your order. I took advantage of that coupon and got one bag of each flavor. Can’t wait to receive them!

POPSUGAR Must Have March 2017 Box Review

These are so amazing! I’m sad to say I polished off half the bag in one sitting. The marshmallows are soft and pillowy and dusted with plenty of cinnamon sugar. It tastes just like a churro! If the other flavors taste as good as this, I am going to be one happy camper!

POPSUGAR Must Have March 2017 Box Review

Velvet Eyewear $25 Card
The last item is a “gift card” to Velvet Eyewear. I personally don’t count this as a gift card because you can’t stack it with another code and there’s nothing on the website for less than $45. To me this is just a coupon.

POPSUGAR Must Have March 2017 Box Review

I thought this was a great box! I know lots of people hated it, but I really enjoyed all the items (sans gift card). They were practical and useful to me! The value comes out to $111.00, which is standard for POPSUGAR. I would definitely love to see more practical items in future boxes as well! Don’t get me wrong, I love makeup and fashion as much as the next girl, but home items and kitchen goods are always my favorites in subscription boxes. Can’t wait to see what April brings! I’m anticipating using all my goodies from this box in the warm weather!

Peaches and Petals December 2016 Review

I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season! We had an amazing Christmas Day and are still so stuffed from all the delicious food! But all good things must come to an end: I had to go back to work today (booo!) but I’m excited to have New Year’s Eve off this year. With just a week left of 2016, I have to get all my December reviews done!

Peaches and Petals is a monthly subscription service that sends out vintage-modern items and beauty goods. For $19.99 a month (includes shipping), you’ll receive a mix of jewelry, fashion accessories, lifestyle goods, and beauty samples. Each month has a theme for the box, and I’ve found that they do a great job of curating the items.

Peaches and Petals December 2016 Review

Theme for December is Jingle and Mingle. I received this box with a good amount of time left before Christmas, so I think the timing worked out well for a festive theme. I definitely would have had enough time to gift the contents of this box.

Peaches and Petals December 2016 Review

Keep Calm and Color On Color a Day Calendar | $3.77
Peaches and Petals has sent out lots of coloring items this year, so I’m not surprised to see them finishing the year with another one! I’m surprised at the low value of this item, it’s definitely a great item that I would pay more for. I love the idea of coloring every day, I can totally see it becoming part of my morning routine or a way to unwind during my lunch break. The backing is a sturdy plastic so the calendar can remain upright on your desk.

Peaches and Petals December 2016 Review

Wine Bottle Ugly Christmas Sweater | $8.00
How funny is this “sweater”? It’s designed to fit around a wine bottle, and the little hat goes over the cork. It’s silly and festive and fun, so I have no complaints! I think it would be a really adorable way to gift a bottle of wine for the holidays.

Peaches and Petals December 2016 Review

Manna Kadar Liplocked Priming Gloss Stain | $24.00
I’m sad to say it, but Manna Kadar has become a “subscription brand” to me. What I mean by that is: I only see it in subscription boxes and to me the value of it is significantly less than what the stated retail value is. I have so much Manna Kadar stuff now that I never get excited about it, and the quality seems to have declined over the years. While I appreciate receiving a full sized stain in this box, it goes into my pile of other Manna Kadar products that I have yet to use.

Peaches and Petals December 2016 Review

Wax Free Tart Warmer | $13.85
I was surprised to see this in my box, since I have never gotten a fragrance warmer before in a box! Usually I see candles or diffusers, but I love getting something new to try. And for people who live in apartments who don’t allow candles, this is a great choice! It’s about 4 inches tall and 4 inches wide, and comes with a vanilla fragrance disk.

Peaches and Petals December 2016 Review

The warmer looks like this! It has a plug in the back and it’s very easy to use.

Peaches and Petals December 2016 Review

Wax Free Tarts | $2.00 (?)
These exact discs were surprisingly hard to find online, so I’m thinking maybe these are the older packaging or something. Sun-dried linen is a classic scent that you can’t go wrong with, though I wish they had sent a more seasonal fragrance. I think it really would have helped the curation if the scents were more along the lines of apple, spruce, cinnamon, or something that feels festive!

Peaches and Petals December 2016 Review

Necklace | ???
Everything up until this point in my box was great, but once I got to the jewelry I was extremely confused. The jewelry is meant to be a “surprise jingle-y and mingle-y item” that varies from box to box. First of all, they included 3 necklaces for me. I’m not sure if that was a mistake or if they’re meant to be a set or what, but it was odd. And also the quality of these pieces were really very bad. On top of that, they didn’t feel festive at all. It would have been so easy to send equally cheap jewelry that had a more holiday theme. I saw some cute cheap earrings at Claire’s when I was shopping for a friend’s daughter that would have been way better: little jingle bells, snowflake pendants, even a tiny pom-pom holly wreath.

Peaches and Petals December 2016 Review

I received a reddish teardrop pendant necklace, a blue “opal” textured triangle pendant, and a green square pendant. All three were very bad quality with visible soldering lines on the front and back.

Peaches and Petals December 2016 Review

In lieu of getting three of these necklaces, I would have appreciated one single better quality item. Or just no necklaces! They really didn’t add anything to the box for me and I could have done without them.

Peaches and Petals December 2016 Review

The value for this box is actually quite good if you look at the retail price. It comes to about $51.62, which is over double the cost of the box. But on the other hand, a large portion of that value is coming from the overinflated Manna Kadar product. Personally, I enjoyed certain items in the box but some of the items I won’t be able to use at all. The necklaces aren’t even giftable and the Manna Kadar goes into my ever-growing pile.

But on a more positive note, I think the scent warmer is a great inclusion and definitely a unique pick. No other subscription box that I know of has sent out a similar item! The wine sweater is also really cute and funny and different. Peaches and Petals seems to send out more unique items compared to some of your other subscriptions, which can be hit or miss depending on what you prefer. Personally I think if you don’t mind getting unbranded items and are a bit tired of the same old stuff from other subscription boxes, this box could be a great choice for you!

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2016 Box Review

December is always such a great month for subscription boxes! Each box just feels brimmed with Christmas cheer–it makes me so incredibly happy! POPSUGAR Must Have has consistently been one of my favorite subscription boxes, and definitely my most consistent subscription. I’ve been a subscriber for over 3 years now and will probably still be subscribed 3 years from now.

POPSUGAR Must Have is a subscription service that sends a variety of items for women that are curated by the POPSUGAR editors. Items typically include food, beauty, home, among other miscellaneous things. Each month is $39.99/month, but you can use the code REFER5 to get $5 off your first month.

Bauble Bar Snowfall Pendant | $28.00
We’ve gotten pieces from BaubleBar in the past from POPSUGAR, and I’ve always been happy with the quality. This is an exclusive design for the Must Have box. I love that it comes with a pouch that is perfect for gifting, since I think a lot of people (myself included!) buy extra boxes for gifts and stocking stuffers. This would be such a cute stocking stuffer!

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2016 Box Review

Close up of the front. I like that the pendant actually swivels and is minimal enough to appeal to lots of people. White and silver is a simple and classic combination. This would go with pretty much any outfit. It feels wintery without being too specific, so it’s a versatile piece.

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2016 Box Review

The curved part swivels up and down! The pieces all feel well made.

Winky Lux Lip Pill in Bunny | $14.00
I had never heard of this brand before so I like getting to try something completely new. While I have waaayyyyy too much lipstick right now, I can’t resist adorable packaging. Look at how pretty the lipstick case is! The color itself is a nice muted cranberry, which is great for the holidays.

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2016 Box Review

Sisters’ Gourmet Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix | $7.00
It’s probably a little pathetic how excited I was to see cookie mix, but I mean, COOKIES! What could be more Christmas?! And seriously this mix is so posh and pretty. I really wanted to gift it since it really is a beautiful jar, but in the end I decided to keep it for myself for Christmas cookies. I’ll be baking these on Christmas eve!

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2016 Box Review

The mix requires butter, 1 egg white, and vanilla extract. I can’t wait to taste these in a few days! You have no idea how much self control it required to wait this long!

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2016 Box Review

Dessange Top Coat Serum | $12.00
When I first saw this I was disappointed, since I don’t have color treated hair and didn’t need another serum. But this actually has UV protection for your hair! I desperately need UV protection in the Texas summer here, so I am actually now really excited about this! This is one of the best parts about subscription boxes: finding new stuff that surprises you with how useful it is (plus the great value)!

Mane Message Date Night Bobby Pins | $10.00
Perfect stocking stuffer! I was set on gifting this but then I needed some cute bobby pins for my company’s holiday party and these fit the bill. They’re cute and sparkly without being overly gaudy, and the colors can work for all occasions.

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2016 Box Review

Odeme Ring Dish | $23.00
Saving my favorite items for last! I always love receiving home items in boxes, especially really useful ones like this. I keep little trays all over the house for keys, jewelry, coins, etc. For a messy girl like me, these trays help me keep my messes contained! I love the minimal look of this ring dish too!

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2016 Box Review

Odeme Catchall | $44.00
How cute is this little set? The tray is a great size and perfect for my makeup collection and brushes on my vanity. Both the tray and the ring dish are very solidly made and look quite pretty in my home.

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2016 Box Review

And look at how adorable the boxes are! I purchased a 2nd December box mostly because I have a friend who would love this set for Christmas!

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2016 Box Review

This wasn’t part of the December box, but since I re-subscribed during the Black Friday sale, I got a bonus item. I won’t be counting this towards the overall value, but just wanted to include it in my review because it’s a great product! I have only used this mask twice so far but it’s really quite fantastic. I usually use GlamGlow masks but this is seriously comparable! Just for reference, I have combination skin with some hormonal acne and it works so well for me.

POPSUGAR Must Have December 2016 Box Review

What a great December box! The value is $138.00. Everything is very giftable and the curation was on point. It definitely felt like a holiday box! I know it’s a great box when I had planned to gift most of the items but ended up keeping everything, so had to buy a second box for gifts! That’s what I would call a successful box. I hope 2017 brings more boxes like this one!
