Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box May 2017 Review

Wow, this review is late–even by my procrastinating standards! I genuinely thought this box was the June shipment (since I received it earlier this month) so I was holding off on posting this review until mid-month. But imagine my horror when I saw a shipping notice in my email that said my June box was on the way! I went to look at my last review and lo and behold, it was for April. So….yeah. Sorry about that everyone!

Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box is a monthly jewelry club that represents independent, up-and-coming French jewelry designers. In addition to their monthly shipments, you can also purchase jewelry from their online boutique.

Every month they feature a designer and send a surprise piece of jewelry, though you can choose if you prefer gold or silver and whether or not you have pierced ears. If you do the month to month plan, it’s $35/month. If you prepay, the price goes down to $33/month for a 3 month subscription, $31/month for a 6 month subscription, and $29/month for a 12 month subscription. The unique piece of jewelry is always valued between $50 and $200, so you’re getting a significant discount no matter what option you choose.

Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box May 2017 Review

I always mention this in every review for Emma & Chloe: the packaging is lovely! This black box comes in a padded bubble mailer, so the box is always in pristine condition. And the box is really sturdy and super cute! The interior pattern is adorable and I love to reuse these boxes for storage or for wrapping gifts.

Each month comes with a little mini magazine and also a postcard. I love the beautifully shot photos and thoughtful content. There’s always an interview with the featured designer plus lots of other little articles that are fun to read.

IMG_1215

If you’re a lover of France (and seriously, who isn’t?) you will really enjoy the articles! There’s always at least one article that makes me ready to jet off to Paris. Luckily this month it’s all about Parisian picnics and how you can create your own without having to fly across the pond. I love all the suggestions! This magazine is packed with styling tips, new trends, and even has a fun quiz at the end every month.

4 Crosses Elsa Earrings | $69.00
The featured piece this month is a beautiful dainty set of earrings from 4 Crosses. Since my preference is gold, I received these in gold but it also came in silver. I love that Emma and Chloe was able to accommodate those who do not have pierced ears! Subscribers who do not have pierced ears were able to get this exact pair as clip ons! I love that, since most subscription companies will just send out an alternative piece like a necklace or bracelet.

IMG_1217

Every month comes with a certificate of authenticity and simple care instructions.

IMG_1218

A close up of the earrings! I am a big fan of dainty jewelry in general, and long earrings are my jam! They make my neck look really long and they’re statement pieces without being too heavy or large. The warm coral color of the bead is also perfect for my skin tone–coral is my favorite shade for lips and cheeks!

IMG_1219

Okay, now here’s the cool part: you can transform these earrings by folding the earring in half so the bead is at the bottom. The post goes through one of the gold links in the chain and suddenly you have earrings that are half the length and more full. I love it! So much fun and versatile.

IMG_1220

These earrings look so beautiful when they move! The little gold leaf shapes reflect light and create a lovely draped effect. I always get compliments on my Emma and Chloe pieces, and this was no exception. I wore it to a fancy dinner last week and several people commented on how delicate and pretty my earrings were!

I’m very happy with the jewelry from this month! Although I haven’t had a month that I dislike yet. For the record, this is my 4th month. I think if you’re someone like me who adores dainty jewelry and loves all things French, this is perfect for you. The value is great, the quality of the pieces is awesome, the packaging is beautiful, and you get to discover new designers!

I look at my jewelry collection now and think the curation from Emma and Chloe is so on point. The pieces all look cohesive together and they send you a little of everything. So far I’ve received a ring, a necklace, a bracelet, and now earrings. It’s really smart that they alternate so much! I can’t wait to see what next month will bring, and hopefully I will be better at keeping track of what boxes are meant for which month in the future!

Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box April 2017 Review

Just got back from a 2 week long trip, so now I’m trying to catch up on all the April stuff I missed! That’s another great part about subscription boxes: I always come home to a neat little pile of goodies! It’s like having several welcome home presents to myself. Anyways, the first box I went for when I got back was my Emma and Chloe box! I already knew what I would be receiving since they sent out spoilers, but I just had to try on my bracelet right away.

One thing I really appreciate about this box of their great packaging! I think it really adds value to a subscription. The black box ships in a bubble mailer so it’s pristine upon arrival. The box is sturdy and pretty enough to use for storing your jewelry if you don’t use a jewelry box. I like to reuse my boxes for gifting.

Another part of what makes this subscription special is the thoughtful zine that comes every month. There’s plenty of information about the featured designer but also fun articles about French culture, styling tips, and a little quiz at the end. I’m impressed that they’re able to put out one of these every month!

IMG_1027

For me, the little magazine adds value to the subscription since it’s something I look forward to and the content is meaningful. Every month I read it cover to cover!

Coralie De Seynes Bronze Torsade Bracelet | $63.00
As soon as I saw the spoilers, I knew this was going to be perfect for me! Even though I tend to prefer dainty jewelry, the sleek and simple design of this bracelet is a great “statement” piece for me. It’s classic and elegant but still modern and on trend. Can you tell I really love it? Definitely my favorite piece from Emma and Chloe so far!

IMG_1029

Pictures don’t do this bracelet any justice. It’s truly stunning and even my husband (who certainly doesn’t have an eye for detail) noticed I was wearing a new bracelet and commented on how unique it is! I have gold listed as my preferred finish but this is one of those months that I wish I could have both versions. The silver one is beautiful too!

IMG_1030

The bracelet is a little over 7 inches long and with the chain it can be an additional 2 inches. It closes with a sturdy lobster clasp. Due to the way the bracelet is braided, it wears like a cross between a bangle and a soft bracelet. The chain provides a lot of structure so it holds its own shape very well. But it’s obviously more malleable than an actual bangle too. I hope that made sense!

IMG_1031

Here’s a little bit of a better shot of the details. See how pretty it is? I love the texture! This is an item that can be easily dressed up for a special occasion but also works as an everyday piece. Emma and Chloe seems to be especially good at finding versatile jewelry like that, which I’m very happy about.

IMG_1032

Every month comes with a postcard that features a picture of the jewelry. I rarely have a use for them, but this month subscribers received a piece of dark chocolate as well! What a lovely little extra! I’ll never say no to chocolate.

IMG_1033

Another month, another beautiful piece of jewelry! I love that I’m slowly filling up my jewelry box with lots of fun and classic pieces. The quality is also good for costume jewelry and I know they will last me if I take proper care of them.

I only have one small complaint about this month, which is that the stated retail value is inconsistent. In the spoiler, they said the value of the bracelet is $63. In the magazine, it’s listed as $76. If you go to the designer’s website and convert from euros to dollars, it’s about $67. I personally chose to go with the lowest of the numbers just to err on the side of caution, which is $63. It’s still great for the cost of the subscription, but inconsistent values are one of my pet peeves.

Anyways, my verdict for this box is always the same. I love it! It’s a great subscription if you’re someone who values quality over quantity and enjoy French design. There are other jewelry subscription boxes out there that send more items each month, but the quality is significantly lower. If you like to discover new brands, like to support small designers, and love jewelry, you’ll probably enjoy this subscription just as much as I do!

Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box January 2017 Review

I feel like February zoomed by without that many boxes, which was kind of a let down. Little Lace Box ended up delaying their box until March, and I didn’t like any of the Bespoke options. But I had the pleasure of discovering a new box thanks to the team at Emma & Chloe! They offered to send me one of their January boxes to review, and I am so excited to have found such a fun jewelry subscription with high quality pieces.

I received this black box inside a protected bubble envelope, so the box itself was in great condition. This is wonderful if you end up deciding to gift the jewelry. The packaging is so beautiful! I love the sturdy black box filled with French illustrations on the inside. Each shipment comes with a little magazine with more information about the featured designer and also fun little articles about France and fashion.

Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box January 2017 Review

I love how much thought and effort goes into their magazine! It feels very substantial at 31 pages, and each article is interesting and the pictures are great for styling inspiration. It’s a magazine that you actually want to read!

LOVE this list of coffee shops! The magazine really does emphasize France and the lifestyle over there, so if you adore France and French designers (but seriously, who doesn’t?) this is a fabulous subscription for you! The rest of the magazine includes information about the featured designer, an interview, tips for beautiful skin and hair in winter, a cute personality quiz for 2017, and a recipe for making authentic galette des rois (king cake)!

They also included a bonus postcard with a picture of the ring. I’m thinking it’s supposed to be a way for you to share a picture of your new jewelry with a friend, but I would have preferred an illustration or something that feels less like an ad. Maybe just a cute print of the inside pattern of their box! Or a beautiful picture of a cafe in Paris. I don’t really feel comfortable sending a postcard like this to one of my friends, since it looks way too much like an advertisement.

Back of the postcard is branded but not obnoxiously so. If the front were a different picture or illustration, I would have been more than happy to use this postcard. I love sending and receiving snail mail!

More details on the packaging. Can you tell I’m obsessed with pretty packaging and little details? The jewelry comes in a little black bag that is great for traveling with. I always like to keep these little pouches so when I travel I can store my jewelry in their own bags to prevent scratching.

Another cool thing I really like about Emma & Chloe is that each piece of jewelry comes with a certificate of authenticity. It’s just a nice little touch that makes the piece feel a bit more special. The certificate card also includes a little blurb about how to care for the jewelry, which is helpful.

L’Atelier Clandestin Labradorite Gold Ring | $60.00 (on sale for $50)
So without further ado, the jewelry piece! It’s a really beautiful ring that is gold plated and set with a labradorite stone. It has a great weight to it and feels incredibly well made. Love the interesting textures stamped onto the band of the ring! The stone itself is lovely as well. The designer talks about the power of stones and choosing specific stones for their meanings, so I looked up labradorite to see what it represents. Turns out it’s strongly associated with balance and protection. While I’m not someone who uses healing crystals or anything like that, I appreciate the thought process of designing a piece of jewelry with specific meaningful stones in mind. It really makes the piece so much more interesting!

Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box January 2017 Review

The ring is very easy to adjust and since it’s a thick band it feels sturdy too. I’m always nervous about adjusting really thin rings because they are easy to break and don’t hold the shape as well. The way this ring is designed makes it easy to accommodate a very wide range of sizes. The brand name is stamped on the inside.

Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box January 2017 Review

Look how pretty! (Please excuse my very sad nails, they’re recovering from a gel manicure…) Normally I don’t wear chunky rings like this, but since the stone itself is so dainty and the design is quite minimalistic it actually really works with my style! I have several weddings to attend this year and just bought an emerald colored dress that looks amazing with this ring.

Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box January 2017 Review

And one last picture of the front of the ring. So pretty and love all the details!

Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box January 2017 Review

Overall verdict: love this subscription! It’s a really cool idea and I think it’s particularly great if you’re a quality over quantity kind of person. When it comes to jewelry, I do believe in investing in fewer high quality favorites. I’ve never enjoyed collecting a ton of cheap costume jewelry that falls apart quickly. I think I get too attached to jewelry and prefer having pieces that last for a long time.

The value is also there for those of us who are interested in getting a great bang-for-your-buck subscription. For $35 (or less) you get a unique piece of jewelry that’s a minimum value of $50. And personally I think there’s extra value in the fact that you’re getting authentic French designer products! It’s not something that’s easy to purchase from the designer itself. For instance in this case, L’Atelier Clandestin only has a website in French and it’s quite difficult to navigate. If I ordered direct from the site, I would have to pay a hefty shipping fee and wait for my package to go through customs and it’s a bit of a hassle. Going through a reputable company like Emma and Chloe is a great option. There’s also value in the cute magazine and pretty packaging! If you want to build up a collection of beautifully curated jewelry that is going to last for many years, this is a great subscription to try.
