POPSUGAR Must Have August 2017 Box Review

The August box from POPSUGAR is always a highly anticipated one because it’s their anniversary box. This year is their 5th year anniversary so I knew they would be curating a very special box. I was totally checking the tracking compulsively like a crazy person. And I’m happy to say that I was not disappointed. It’s a great box!

POPSUGAR Must Have is a subscription service that sends a variety of items for women that are curated by the POPSUGAR editors. Items typically include food, beauty, home, among other miscellaneous things. Each month is $39.99/month, but you can use the code REFER5 to get $5 off your first month. It’s consistently one of my favorite subscriptions ever! I have been subscribed for over 3 years now!

POPSUGAR Must Have August 2017 Box Review

First Aid Beauty 5 in 1 Bouncy Mask | $38.00
If you haven’t used this brand before, I highly recommend trying their products! It’s especially great for those with sensitive skin, since a lot of their products are fragrance free. In the winter I swear by their Ultra Repair Cream. This “bouncy” mask is a new product and it’s really mild and hydrating. It only takes 10 minutes but adds a lot of moisture to your skin. My face felt super soft after I was done and I didn’t have any irritation or discomfort. It was very soothing when it was on (definitely doesn’t feel like the mud type of mask) and has a cooling effect. It’s so refreshing in the summer heat!

IMG_1637

The container is smaller than I expected but a little goes a long way. The first time I used a thick layer, and the second time I did a very thin layer and the results were the same. It has a very light fragrance that I barely noticed when the mask was on, so if you’re sensitive to perfumed masks this could be a good one to try.

Meri Meri Gold Glitter Candles | $7.50
These are cute and practical–my favorite combination. They’re longer than your typical birthday candles (about 6 inches long) and look very elegant. I love that it comes with little candle holders to stick into the cake! My coworkers and I always buy a cake for my boss for her birthday at the end of August so I’ll have a chance to use these pretty candles! I would love to see more Meri Meri products from POPSUGAR!

IMG_1636

Dogeared Friendship Bracelet | $34.00
Yay, more Dogeared jewelry! I am such a huge fan of Dogeared and their minimalistic dainty jewelry, so it’s always a good box when they feature the brand. While I love the bracelet, I think it would be an awesome stocking stuffer gift for my cousin-in-law when Christmas rolls around! (Don’t judge me y’all, planning early is how I sane when the holidays hit!) I know she will enjoy this bracelet and the message is perfect.

IMG_1640

Goodie Girl Cookies in Chocolate Chunk | $2.95
I’ll never complain about getting chocolate chip cookies in a subscription box! These are gluten free and peanut free, and taste totally amazing. My only complaint is that the package is very small. I could have eaten a huge bag of these! Though it’s probably for the better that POPSUGAR sent a portion controlled size…

IMG_1643

Cheers Lacquered Tray by Fringe Studio | $28.00
I love this tray so much! It’s so cute and festive and I adore the touch of gold. It’s approximately 12″ x 8.5″ and the sides go up 1.5″. It’s made of wood but the finish is waterproof. I really like how versatile a tray like this is. I’m currently using it to organize all my random clutter on my desk, but I think once it cools down around here I’ll use it as a cute tray to serve drinks. It would also be so pretty on our coffee table to store the ridiculous number of remotes we have and drink coasters.

IMG_1647

I can’t get over how much I love this tray! Imagine how pretty it would be to serve champagne on this tray for a New Year’s Eve party!

IMG_1649

Fringe Studio Free Spirit Journal | $16.00
This is a sponsored item from Jeep, but the journal itself doesn’t have any Jeep or POPSUGAR branding on it.

IMG_1644

The journal cover is a metallic rose gold and the “free spirit” text is embossed in white. Attached to the spine of the journal is a ribbon that functions as a bookmark. The quality of the journal feels very good, I’m trying to decide what to use it for. Maybe a travel journal?

IMG_1645

The interior is lined and has “Follow Your True North” on the bottom of each page.

IMG_1646

Shoptiques.com $25 Gift Card | $25.00
And last but certainly not least, a gift card! It’s considered an extra but since it functions as an actual gift card (not a coupon, where you have to spend more money to get something) I’m counting it as the full $25 value. It’s so generous for them to include a $25 gift card in a box that only costs $40.

IMG_1641

The box that the gift card comes in is so well designed that I’m torn about what to do with it. On one hand, I love Shoptiques and the brands they carry. On the other hand, since the box is so cute I think it would be an amazing gift!

IMG_1642

Overall I thought this was an amazing box! I love the curation so much, and each item is a hit. I’m blown away that they were able to deliver a $151.45 value box that includes an actual $25 gift card! I wish I had purchased several of these August boxes. All the items would make wonderful gifts, if only I didn’t want to keep everything for myself! I am so excited to see what fall will bring for POPSUGAR, since fall is my favorite season and usually comes with my favorite box curations as well.

Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box June 2017 Review

I’m back, everyone! So sorry for the unexplained disappearance for a whole month. I had a family emergency come up and had to fly out of the country last minute. I’m still slowly getting over jet lag and catching up on work, so please bear with me! I’ll be skipping reviews for some of my June boxes since I’m just way too tired to do all of them, but I did want to take a moment and review Emma and Chloe for you today because it’s my favorite piece I’ve gotten from them so far. Such prettiness deserves a review even when I’m exhausted, right?

Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box is a monthly jewelry club that represents independent, up-and-coming French jewelry designers. In addition to their monthly shipments, you can also purchase jewelry from their online boutique.

Every month they feature a designer and send a surprise piece of jewelry, though you can choose if you prefer gold or silver and whether or not you have pierced ears. If you do the month to month plan, it’s $35/month. If you prepay, the price goes down to $33/month for a 3 month subscription, $31/month for a 6 month subscription, and $29/month for a 12 month subscription. The unique piece of jewelry is always valued between $50 and $200, so you’re getting a significant discount no matter what option you choose.

Emma & Chloe Jewelry Box June 2017 Review

Every month I marvel at the gorgeous packaging. The black box comes in a bubble mailer so the box itself remains pristine. I use the black boxes for storing jewelry and for gifting items. It’s very sturdy and super cute.

IMG_1439

Every month also comes with a mini magazine. I noticed that the design for this month’s magazine is different. It feels more modern and youthful now.

IMG_1440

The interior page layouts seem to have changed as well, and I love the new look! It almost has an Anthropologie sort of feel. And since Anthropologie is my favorite store in the whole wide world, I’m excited for this change. I really enjoy reading the magazines each month and think it adds value to the subscription. It’s filled with beautiful photos, an interview with the featured designer, interesting articles about fashion/styling, and travel tidbits about France!

IMG_1441

I thoroughly enjoyed this article about 10 indoor plants that are perfect for apartments! I live in an apartment right now and desperately need to add some low maintenance plants to brighten up the place. This was a useful and interesting article for me.

IMG_1442

Each month Emma and Chloe sends a certificate of authenticity with the jewelry. I love the new look of the certificate! It’s printed on textured paper and feels very substantial. It makes the entire subscription feel so luxurious and posh!

IMG_1443

The back includes detailed instructions on how to properly care for your jewelry.

IMG_1444

Vadine Sister Sunhorn Necklace | $86.00
And without further ado: the necklace! It’s so beautiful and well crafted. The simple design works well for summer and the neutral white color goes with everything! The necklace is made of brass and gilded with gold. I think this is yet another piece from Emma and Chloe that could easily be dressed up for a date night but also look effortlessly chic for every day.

IMG_1445

Even the clasp is well designed and elegant. I seriously love the way the ends are decorative and add to the overall look of the necklace. The chain is delicately thin but sturdy and feels more “structured” than your typical necklace chain.

IMG_1447

Gorgeous, right? White and gold is such a perfect combination. I’m totally obsessed with this necklace. It’s my favorite piece that I have received so far, and I already know that I will get tons of wear out of it. The designer said that she designed this piece to reflect her travels. She envisions it paired with little sundresses and sandals, which is exactly how I want to style it as well!

IMG_1449

I love that my Emma and Chloe subscription just gets better and better over time. I feel like I always get a great value and the pieces that I receive are always wearable and well made. I am building a beautiful collection of necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings! Since each piece is simple, dainty, and classic, it all goes together pretty well. I’ve had excellent results from mixing Emma and Chloe jewelry together to create a cohesive outfit.

If you love French culture, dainty jewelry, and classic looks, this might be the perfect subscription for you! You get access to good quality jewelry from French designers that are difficult to find in the United States for a fraction of the retail price. It’s so much fun to watch your collection grow as the months go by! I can’t wait to see what is coming for July (probably within the next week!). Stay tuned, y’all!

Peaches and Petals May 2017 Review

Like I’ve mentioned in my previous Peaches and Petals reviews, it seems that this subscription has been sending out their boxes at the tail end of the month. I actually thought this was June’s box when I received it, since they don’t put information cards in the boxes anymore. I’m glad I have this blog to help me keep track!

Peaches and Petals is a monthly subscription service that sends out vintage-modern items and beauty goods. For $19.99 a month (includes shipping), you’ll receive a mix of jewelry, fashion accessories, lifestyle goods, and beauty samples. Usually each month has a theme for the box, and the theme for May is “Vacation, All I Ever Wanted”.

Peaches and Petals May 2017 Review

World’s Best Spungee Neck Support Travel Pillow | $11.45
I appreciate getting a travel pillow in a box, since I have never received one from a subscription box before. But on the other hand, this is a pretty bad travel pillow. This seems to be an old model since it does not come with any way to keep the pillow together at the front. It’s almost impossible to keep it on your shoulders as you sleep, since the pillow has no way of keeping the U structure. If you’re a seasoned traveler, you know that having a snap or toggle at the front is essential!

IMG_1159

Gud by Burt’s Bees Cleaning Wipes | $4.99
These are discontinued products and the pear one (the green packaging on the right in the picture) definitely shows it. The entire package is leaking a light brown liquid that is sticky. The red one is pretty dry for a cleansing wipe, and I don’t know if it’s because it’s been sitting on a shelf for a long time or if these wipes are just designed like that. I don’t know how old these are but I won’t I’ll be using them. I’m disappointed because cleansing wipes are so cheap already. I buy them for 50 cents from Target when I’m going on a trip! Peaches and Petals could have easily bought current wipes to send that aren’t leaking or dried out!

IMG_1161

Soapbox Hope-To-Go Travel Kit | $7.99
I’m pleased to see a very useful kit that also supports a great cause! This travel kit contains TSA approved containers of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and body lotion. For each kit sold, a month of clean water will be given to a person in need through an organization called Splash.

IMG_1162

The products themselves are all quite nice as well. I especially like that these containers are easy to clean and refill, and the bag it all comes in meets TSA requirements too!

IMG_1163

Sara Beth Candle in Seaside | $12.00 (?)
This appears to be a brand that is often used for fundraising. I remember back in middle school we had these sorts of fundraisers every year! It seems kind of odd that it’s now included in a subscription box. And does anyone else think candles are a poor choice for these sorts of fundraising events? I remember we had to hand deliver the products to each person who purchased–candles would have been so heavy!

IMG_1164 (1)

Anyways, enough about my speculation about the fundraising. This candle has a really refreshing crisp scent and I love the wooden wick! Wooden wicks are always so much fun to burn and I rarely purchase them for myself, so I’m very happy to see this in my box! The candle came in giftable packaging as well, which I appreciate.

IMG_1165

Umbra Magnetic Board | $8.00 (?)
Last but not least, this super cute magnetic board! This is hands down my favorite item from the box! I love the Umbra brand, and I hope we see more of their products in future Peaches and Petals boxes. They make such stylish but affordable home goods!

IMG_1166

The board comes with 6 magnets and is approximately 15.5″ x 15″ in size. It’s very light and easy to hang on a wall. I love the simple design and empowering phrase!

IMG_1167

It was sort of mixed bag (or should I say a mixed box?) for me, but overall I would consider it a box that I liked. The Umbra board is so cute and I love it a lot, and the candle and travel kit are both useful and fun. The cleaning wipes were a total dud, but since they take up the least amount of value I’m not too upset. The travel pillow had potential to be amazing as well but the design was just awful. But I do think this is a huge step up from the past few boxes! I really hope this is an upward trend that will continue. I’m actually very excited to see what next month will bring!

POPSUGAR Must Have May 2017 Box Review

Back on track with May boxes! I’m always amazed by how much I look forward to getting my POPSUGAR box each month. I have been subscribed for 3 years now and it’s still one of my favorite subscriptions. They consistently deliver amazing value and the curation is always thoughtful and on trend. I have discovered so many new brands and products that I love!

POPSUGAR Must Have is a subscription service that sends a variety of items for women that are curated by the POPSUGAR editors. Items typically include food, beauty, home, among other miscellaneous things. Each month is $39.99/month, but you can use the code REFER5 to get $5 off your first month.

POPSUGAR Must Have May 2017 Box Review

Samantha Faye Inspirational Cuff | $60.00
First up is a silver cuff that is exclusively designed for POPSUGAR. It comes in a little velvet pouch that is great for gifting. While this is the highest value item in the box, it’s actually my least favorite item. The phrasing “Be good, Do good, Feel good” isn’t for me and I prefer gold jewelry. But luckily I have a friend who would really enjoy this and I can pass it along to her.

IMG_1044

It fits very well on me and is comfortable to wear. The quality looks excellent and the cuff feels sturdy. I wish we had received one of Samantha Faye’s regular designs instead of this exclusive one, since I think her actual line of inspirational cuffs is more my style. They usually have just a single phrase like “courage” or “believe”, which I prefer more.

IMG_1046

I think this a very versatile piece. It would be excellent for layering with other bracelets but is also simple and chic and can be worn alone. I know my friend will be really excited to receive this! I love that even when something doesn’t suit my style, everything I get from this box is easily giftable.

IMG_1047

Lipstick Queen Mornin’ Sunshine | $25.00
I was really confused when I first opened this lipstick because the yellow color was so surprising! But after reading more about it and trying it on, I love it. The yellow color transforms into a sheer coral once you apply it and it’s super flattering. It reminds me of Dior Addict LipGlow (one of my holy grail items!) because of the way the color morphs to match your skin tone and how moisturizing it is. I am so thrilled with discovering this product and this brand as a whole.

IMG_1048

Tocca Montauk Candle | $20.00
Whenever I see Tocca in a box I get really excited. I love their scents so much! I wish I had purchased a second box so I can have two of these candles. The salt air cucumber scent is so fresh and light–it’s perfect for summer. It reminds me of enjoying delicious cocktails on the beach! Even though this is just a 3 ounce candle, it has a burn time of about 30 hours.

IMG_1050

Swing Design Essex Frame | $13.00
I was very surprised to see the low retail value of this frame! I expected it to be more expensive since it looks really elegant with the sleek silver edge and thick white mat. It’s versatile enough to go with any home decor. I have a lot of pictures that I never remember to purchase frames for, so this is perfect! And at such a low price point I will probably be purchasing more of them so I can have a set. Another great find!

IMG_1053

The frame also comes in a box so it’s ready to be gifted.

IMG_1051

Southern Culture Strawberry Muffin Mix | $8.00
Always happy to see baking mixes! I love to bake but I’m also rather lazy, so a nice baking mix like this is the best of both worlds. This mix requires whole milk and 2 eggs. I haven’t found an occasion to bake these yet, but from the reviews it sounds like you might need to add extra sugar or fresh strawberries to help bring out the strawberry flavor. I’m reserving judgement for now since I haven’t baked it myself, but I do hope they turn out okay!

IMG_1049

Nicely Noted Card Collection | $17.50
When I first saw the cards I was so excited! I adore letterpress everything and had been eyeing Nicely Noted for a while now. I was really excited to get 3 beautiful letterpress cards, but I was disappointed to discover that these are not actual letterpress cards. It seems really pointless to include cards that are not what a subscriber would actually receive. These are just your typical printed cards, sort of like something you could buy in a boxed set at Target.

IMG_1054

I also really dislike the Nicely Noted logo on the backs of the cards. I always prefer it when subscription box items do not include a logo of the actual subscription that they came from, since it feels like advertisement and it seems tacky to me. In this case, I love buying card from independent small studios and it feels weird to have a Nicely Noted logo slapped on the back.

IMG_1055

Overall it was a great box for me! The value comes to $143.49 which is fantastic, and pretty standard for POPSUGAR boxes. I loved the frame, candle, and lipstick! They are some of my favorite subscription box items this year! If the cards had been actual letterpress cards, this would have been a complete home run for me.

Peaches and Petals April 2017 Review

Still catching up on April, but this is the last over-due review! It seems that Peaches and Petals has been shipping their boxes on a new later schedule now, so it’s something to keep in mind. My February and March boxes were both quite late.

Peaches and Petals is a monthly subscription service that sends out vintage-modern items and beauty goods. For $19.99 a month (includes shipping), you’ll receive a mix of jewelry, fashion accessories, lifestyle goods, and beauty samples. Usually each month has a theme for the box, and the theme for April is “Fun in the Sun”.

Peaches and Petals April 2017 Review

I wish they would go back to their old cards, which listed all the items in the box. The boxes have also been packed more haphazardly in the past few months, with just a tiny handful of crinkle paper and nothing else. It feels like they’re trying to cut corners everywhere. If you’re someone who doesn’t place much emphasis on packaging this could be a good thing–the company can place more value into the items themselves! But I personally think that packaging is a big part of a subscription box, so for me this is a disappointing change.

IMG_1035

Rug | $10.00 (?)
This is one of the reasons why I would have loved a card listing all the contents. I don’t really know what this is. I’m guessing it’s a rug or bathmat, but it doesn’t have any sort of grip on the back side. It could also work as a small picnic blanket.

IMG_1037

I’ll probably keep it in my car as a small picnic blanket. On one hand I was frustrated when I first opened the box and didn’t know what this was, but on the other hand it doesn’t even really matter. It’s clearly versatile enough to function as whatever you want it to function as! I even considered using this as a heavy duty tablecloth for park picnic benches.

IMG_1038

Close up of the fabric. It’s pretty heavy and sturdy. The pattern is pretty and the material feels substantial enough to hold up to a lot of use.

IMG_1039

Violife 3 Piece Travel Bags | $22.95
Whoa, this is some seriously inflated value. I can’t imagine paying this price tag for 3 little travel bags! Sephora sells great quality ones for between $3 and $5, and Target has adorable prints on their travel bags, which start from just $1. I have no idea what makes these so special, since they look like any other basic travel pouch to me. But I can never have enough travel bags so I’m happy to have a set of three. These bags are so useful for organizing knick knacks and make your suitcase (or tote or whatever) much more neat.

IMG_1040

Alterna Bamboo Anti-Humidity Hair Spray | $3.60
As soon as I saw the anti-humidity part I was all in. Houston gets so crazy humid once summer rolls around (well, it’s already starting) and everyone here is always looking for the next amazing anti-humidity hair product. Alterna is a great brand that I love, so I know this will be a reliable product!

IMG_1036

Occasionally Made Booty Buddy Pool Mat plus Coozie | $22.90
This is another crazy overpriced item. I have no idea who would actually pay $22.90 for this set! The quality is comparable to the stuff I see at Target’s dollar bin at the front of the store. Even the pattern feels like a similar aesthetic to what I have seen at Target!

IMG_1041

I’ll totally admit to not knowing that the “booty buddy” thing was for when I first opened the box. I assumed it was an insulated placemat. It’s actually supposed to be a cushion that you can sit on when you’re around the pool. I feel like if it’s really meant to be a cushion it needs to be more substantial. I would never bother bringing such a bulky item just to have a layer of neoprene to sit on. A towel would do the exact same thing and also have a lot of other uses as well.

IMG_1042

I find the value for this box to be really hard to judge, since some of the items are so overinflated and the rug is unbranded.

This was a disappointing box for me. While I enjoyed the rug/blanket thing and the hairspray, the pouches and pad/drink holder set were very overinflated in value. The pool buddy pad and drink holder are also both items I would never use. Usually when I receive items that aren’t for me, I’m happy to pass them along to a friend. I don’t know anyone who would use the pad or the drink holder, and I wouldn’t gift them to a stranger because it looks like a dollar store find.

I wish Peaches and Petals would go back to the way they were last year! I feel like they sent out more unique items that were curated around the specific theme. Lately the boxes feel very lackluster. I hope to see them turn it around soon.
